Bible Reading: Isaiah 1:16-20
Monday, August 1, 2016

I used to live in upstate New York where we would get about 100 inches of snow in winter. It was exciting to wake up in the morning and see the ground covered with pure white snow!
In our Bible Reading today, the prophet Isaiah gave the Israelites a message from God. In the first part of this chapter, Isaiah warned them about the bad things they had been doing. But in verse 16 he told them what they should do: “Stop doing the evil things I see you do. Stop doing wrong.”
Sometimes it is hard for us to be close to God. We think that our sins are so bad that God could never forgive us. But here is what God told the Israelites: “Even if your sins are as dark as red dye, that stain can be removed and you will be as pure as wool that is as white as snow” (verse 18b).
When we ask God to forgive us and we follow His plan, He removes our sins and makes us “white as snow.” Ask God to forgive you and help you obey Him today. —JK

“But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us...He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.” 1 John 1:9
PRAYER: Father, forgive me and make me clean again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Relationships
Bible Reading: Philemon 1-25
Wednesday, July 6, 2016

The other workers and I were not happy with our boss. We did not agree with some decisions he had made. So we said some bad things about the boss. Later, he found out that we had said negative things about him.
I felt separated from my boss because of what I had done. I knew that God was not pleased with me. So I went to my boss, confessed what I had done and asked him to forgive me. Then my attitude changed, and I respected my boss more. We had a better relationship after that.
Our Bible verses tell us about Onesimus, who ran away from his master, Philemon. Paul encouraged Philemon to accept Onesimus back as a brother in Christ so that they could have a good relationship again.
Sin separates us from God and from other people, too. Maybe there is someone you need to ask to forgive you or a relationship that needs to healed. Ask God to help you do what is right. —EP*

“If you accept me as your friend, then accept Onesimus back. Welcome him like you would welcome me.” Philemon 1:17
PRAYER: Father, I want to always do what is right. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Bible Reading: Psalm 32:1-5
Friday, June 17, 2016

Today we will continue to talk about how God rescues us from sin. Imagine that a person is on the ocean in a rubber raft. The raft has a hole in it. What will happen? The raft will sink and the person will probably drown.
That is how we are lost in sin. We have all made bad choices in life. We have disobeyed God. It is like we are lost and drowning in our sin. We cannot save ourselves. We don't even deserve to be saved.
We need someone to rescue us. That person is Jesus! He was not only willing to rescue us, He was willing to take our place and die for us. Then our sins are removed and we are pure before God. Verse 2 of our Bible Reading talks about this. “It is a great blessing when the Lord says they are not guilty, when they don’t try to hide their sins.”
God loves you, and He sent Jesus to die for you. That’s amazing! I hope you will let Jesus rescue you today! —GT

But then I decided to confess my sins to the Lord. I stopped hiding my guilt and told you about my sins. And you forgave them all!” Psalm 32:5
PRAYER: Lord, I am a sinner. Please forgive my sins and rescue me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Bible Reading: Psalm 31:1-5
Thursday, June 16, 2016

You have probably seen a news story on TV about a little kitten that has climbed a tree and is too frightened to climb down. The kitten sits on a branch and meows for someone to help him. Usually the story ends with a fireman or some other person climbing a ladder and rescuing the kitten.
We are all like that kitten. We are trapped in life by sin. Sin controls us, and we can't rescue ourselves. But praise God that He sent Jesus to earth to rescue us. His death on the cross and resurrection rescued us from sin.
Our Bible verses for today are a cry for help. In verse 5 the writer says to God, “Lord, you are the God we can trust. I put my life in your hands. Save me!” When we ask God to rescue us from sin, He will save us and make us one of His children.
If you are trapped in sin today, turn to God. Ask Him to help you understand how you can follow and obey His Word. —GT

A New Life
Bible Reading: Genesis 3:1-13
Monday, May 2, 2016

Our Bible verses today tell us that Adam
and Eve
disobeyed
God. God had
told Adam
and Eve they should not eat from one special tree in the garden. But a snake (the devil) tempted Eve, and she ate from the tree. Then
she gave some to Adam, and he ate, too. Adam and Eve sinned. Romans 5:12a says, “Sin came into the world because of what one man did. And with sin came death.”
But God loved Adam and Eve. He did not want them to be separated from Him forever. So God made a plan for Jesus to come to earth and die on a cross. When Jesus died, He accepted the punishment for Adam and Eve's sin and for all people's sin.
When we repent of our sin and obey Jesus, He becomes our Savior. God forgives our sins and gives us new life through Jesus. I hope that you are following and obeying Jesus. If not, you can have a new life, too. Repent of your sins and obey God's plan for your life. Then you will live forever with Him! —DJH*

“Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in glory. Yes, Christ is now your life, and when he comes again, you will share in his glory.” Colossians 3:3-4
PRAYER: Father, thank You for loving me and for my new life in Jesus. In His name. Amen.

—SAH

Living Water (1)
Bible Reading: Ezekiel 36:24-28
Tuesday, March 8, 2016

I remember playing outside during the summer when I was little. I got dirty, and my mother called me inside to take a bath. Then later I played outside and got dirty again. I could never stay clean!
The sin in our lives makes us spiritually dirty. The only way we can be clean is through Jesus. An old hymn says, “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus.” If we follow and obey Jesus, His blood washes away our sins.

In our Bible verses today, the prophet Ezekiel gives us a picture of Jesus making us clean. “I will wash away all your filth...and I will make you pure” (verse 25). Jesus truly is our Living Water that removes our sin. For the next few days we will look at other ways that Jesus is our Living Water. —SAH

“But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.” 1 John 1:9
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son, Jesus. Thank You that His blood removes my sin and makes me clean. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—PD

Delete
Bible Reading: Psalm 32:1-11
Wednesday, February 3, 2016

When I went to school, the teacher wrote our lessons on a chalkboard. When she was done, she would erase the board. But when the teacher erased the board, you could still faintly see some writing on the board. To really clean the board, she had to wash it. Today when I type with my computer, it is easy to erase my mistakes — I just press the “delete” key on my keyboard, and the mistakes are gone.
Verse 1 of our Bible Reading says, “It is a great blessing when people are forgiven for the wrongs they have done, when their sins are erased.” When God erases our sins, they are completely gone. Ephesians 5:26b tells us that Jesus “died to make the church holy. He used the telling of the Good News to make the church clean by washing it with water.”Mbr> Because of Jesus' death on the cross, we can have our sins deleted forever. Confess your sins to Him today, change your heart and mind and obey His Word. —PD

Sin
Bible Reading: Romans 6:15-23
Sunday, September 27, 2015

Sin What is sin? Sin is doing wrong things and disobeying God. Many people today don't care about God and His Word. These people say that there is no sin.
The book of Romans talks a lot about sin. Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and are not good enough to share God's divine greatness.” This means that all people have disobeyed God. And when we disobey God, we are separated from Him. Verse 16b of our Bible Reading tells us, “Following sin brings spiritual death, but obeying God makes you right with him.”
If you do not know about sin, I encourage you to read the Bible and learn what God wants you to do. If you are already a Christian, I encourage you to continue reading and studying the Bible. That will help you resist the devil and grow in Jesus.
Sin brings eternal separation from God. Obeying God brings eternal life with Him. I hope you choose to obey and follow God. —PN*
“But now you are free from sin. You have become slaves of God, and the result is that you live only for God. This will bring you eternal life.” Romans 6:22
PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for forgiving my sins. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—SAH

White as Snow
Bible Reading: Isaiah 1:16-20
Sunday, September 20, 2015

White as Snow The classrooms at my church have white boards. You must use a dry erase marker on these boards. Then the boards can be cleaned easily.
One Sunday someone used a permanent marker to write on a white board. This was an accident, but we thought that it couldn’t be erased because the wrong kind of marker was used. But one person knew how to clean the board and remove the permanent marker.
The sin in my life is like the permanent marker on a white board. I can’t erase it. But Jesus can remove the sin from my life. That’s why He died on the cross. His blood covers all of my sins. Because of Jesus, my sins are forgiven and I am clean.
In our Bible verses from Isaiah, God says, “Even if your sins are as dark as red dye, that stain can be removed and you will be as pure as wool that is as white as snow” (verse 18b). Only Jesus can forgive you and remove your sin. Trust Him to make you clean again. —SAH

Tricks of the Devil
Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:10-18
Sunday, September 6, 2015

Tricks of the Devil Maybe you have read the expression “things are not always what they appear to be.” To explain this, I will share a story with you.
When I was living in Haiti, we had a large pressure cooker. One day we found a turkey in a local market and cooked it in the pressure cooker. At the end of the day, the cooker was sitting outside our back door. Only the turkey bones were still remaining in the pan. A nosy neighbor walked by, saw the bones and started screaming that we were cannibals and were eating children. The police were called. Of course, we were easily cleared of the charges.
My neighbor thought something was true that was not true at all. The devil does the same thing with us. He likes to make things look exciting and glamorous, but really these things are just plain sinful!
Our Bible verses today remind us that we should be wearing God’s armor to protect us when the devil tries to trick us into disobeying God. Be careful today. Stand strong for God! —DB
“Wear the full armor of God. Wear God’s armor so that you can fight against the devil’s clever tricks.” Ephesians 6:11
PRAYER: Dear Father, help me to be aware of the devil’s tricks. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
