Bible Reading: Proverbs 11:12-13
Monday, November 7, 2016

I have several friends that I have known for a long time. These people have been my friends for many years. But sometimes these friends make me upset. When that happens I feel like I want to say something hurtful to them.
Our Bible Reading today teaches us what to do in situations like that. Verse 12 says, “Stupid people say bad things about their neighbors. Wise people know to be quiet.” Often it is best for us to keep quiet and show love and compassion to our friends.
Verse 13 also gives us some good advice about friends. “People who tell secrets about others cannot be trusted. Those who can be trusted keep quiet.” When a friend shares a secret with us, we should be trustworthy and not tell the secret to other people.
Thank God for your good friends. Treat them with love and respect. —BR

“You cannot trust someone who would talk about things told in private. So don't be friends with someone who talks too much.” Proverbs 20:19
PRAYER: God, thank You for my good friends. I want to always love and respect them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—SKQ

Important to God
Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16:6-12
Thursday, June 9, 2016

In our Bible verses, we learn that God told the prophet Samuel to go to Bethlehem to choose one of Jesse's sons to be the king of Israel. But Jesse only took some of his sons to see Samuel. He left his youngest son, David, to take care of the sheep.
Why didn't Jesse take David to see Samuel? Maybe Jesse thought that David was not important. But God thought that David was important. He chose David to be a king over all Israel. When David came to Samuel, God told him, “He is the one” (verse 12b).
Sometimes people reject us and think that we are not important. But God thinks we are important! God made each one of us, and He thinks that we are special. We are so special to God that He sent His only Son to die for us.
Maybe you are feeling unimportant today. Remember that God loves you and thinks you are very important. —SKQ

“God doesn't look at what people see. People judge by what is on the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7b
PRAYER: God, thank You for loving me and making me feel important. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bible Animals (6)
Bible Reading: James 3:1-12
Friday, May 20, 2016

 My
husband and
daughter
used to
have several
horses. When
they rode, they used a bit to control the horse. A bit is put into a horse’s mouth and attached to the reins. The rider uses the reins to control the horse.
In our Bible Reading today, James talked about controlling our communication. Whether we use our voices to speak or our hands
to sign, we need to control the way we communicate with other people. We need to control ourselves so we do not tell lies, gossip or say bad things about people.
James used the example of a horse’s bit. “We put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us. With these bits we can control their whole body.” (verse 3). We need to control our communication, just like a bit controls a horse.
But we need God’s help to control what we say/sign. Ask God to help you as you communicate with other people today. He will help you say/ sign things that are pleasing to Him. —JK

“Tell them not to speak evil of anyone but to live in peace with others. They should be gentle and polite to everyone.” Titus 3:2
PRAYER: Dear Father, I want my communication to be pleasing to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
