—DK/VLD

Missionaries (2)
Bible Reading: Acts 12:1-10
Saturday, May 17, 2014

Missionaries (2) We like riding on trains. We have been on trains in the United States, Thailand, Romania, Ukraine, Switzerland and Italy.
Some of the trains were fancy; others were very plain. Some trains had private seats while others had one great big room shared by many people. Many of the trains were very crowded. Sometimes we had to hold our luggage on our feet.
A couple of times we had to get off trains in the middle of the night. It was dark, and there was no one to meet us at the train station. Some people have asked us, “Were you scared?” Our answer was, “No!” We always knew that God would protect us and help us find the right people.
In our Bible verses we learn that Peter was in jail. But he trusted God to take care of him. God sent an angel to help Peter get out of jail.
Maybe you are alone or afraid. Remember that God is with you right now. You can always trust Him. —DK/VLD
“You can be sure that I will always be with you. I will continue with you until the end of the world.” Matthew 28:20b
PRAYER: Father, thank You for always being with me. Help me to trust You in every situation today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Helping a Woman (5)
Bible Reading: John 4:5-26
Monday, March 17, 2014

Helping a Woman (5) John, chapter 4, tells us about a woman from Samaria who met Jesus. Most Jews would think it was strange for Jesus to have a conversation with this woman. First, she was a Samaritan, and most Jews did not associate with Samaritans. Second, she was a woman. And third, she was a sinful woman.
But Jesus did not condemn this woman. Instead, He accepted her as she was. Jesus shared with her about God’s plan of salvation. The woman believed that Jesus was God’s Son, and she told many people about Him.
All people need to feel accepted by someone. Maybe there is a person or group of people who will not associate with you. Even when people refuse to accept us, we can know that Jesus is always willing to forgive us and help us become God’s child.
Are you feeling alone today? Do you need someone to accept you and love you? Turn to Jesus. He will forgive you and fill you with His peace. —BH
“But anyone who drinks the water I give will never be thirsty again. The water I give people...will bring them eternal life.” John 4:14
PRAYER: God, thank You for forgiveness through Jesus. In His name. Amen.

God Knows You
Bible Reading: Psalm 87:1-7
Wednesday June 12 2013

God Knows You Sometimes we may become disappointed, confused, frustrated or discouraged. And, we may also experience physical or emotional pain. When we feel like that, we can be comforted by our Bible Reading today.
Psalm 87 is only seven verses long, but it is full of hope. In verse 5b, God says, “I know each and every person born there.” Then verse 6 tells us, “The Lord keeps a list of all his people, and he knows where each of them was born.”
These verses are talking about God’s people who lived in Jerusalem. But from these verses we can learn that God knows all about us. He knows our names, where we live, and what we think. And God always knows what is best for us.
Are you feeling alone and discouraged today? Remember that God loves you and knows all about you. He will not forget you. God will give you strength and comfort to face your problems. —BH
“Lord...you know all about me. You know where I go and where I lie down. You know everything I do.” Psalm 139:1,3
PRAYER: Lord, it is so good that You know all about me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Spring is Here !
Bible Reading: John 10:7-13
Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Spring is Here ! Today is the first day of spring in the United States. Winter is over and a new season is beginning.
Sometimes the winters in the United States can be very harsh with subzero temperatures and lots of snow. When spring comes, it feels so good to have warmer weather and signs of new growth.
People who do not know Jesus as their Savior are like a long, cold winter. Their lives may be filled with loneliness and unhappiness. But when they learn about Jesus and follow Him, they have a spring-like joy in their hearts.
In verse 10b of our Bible Reading, Jesus said, “I came to give life — life that is full and good.” Do you want to have a life that is full and good? You can have that kind of life if you follow and obey Jesus.
If you are not a Christian, think about how Jesus can change your life. If you are already a Christian, then show someone how they can have this new life in Jesus. —RK*
[Jesus said,] “I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will be able to come in and go out. They will find everything they need.” John 10:9
PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for new life through Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—ECW

Depressed
Bible Reading: Psalm 69:1-36
Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Depressed Most Bibles say that Psalm 69 was written by David. He must have written this at a time when he was very depressed. He said things throughout the psalm like “I am about to drown” (verse 2), “I have more enemies than the hairs on my head” (verse 4), “My face is covered with shame” (verse 7), and “People tell jokes about me” (verse 11).
But even though David was depressed, He remembered that God loved him. In verse 13, David said, “As for me, this is my prayer to you, Lord: I want you to accept me! God, I want you to answer me with love. I know I can trust you to save me.” David ended this psalm by praising God for all He did for him.
We all go through times when we are sad or depressed. Maybe we are sick or facing financial problems or someone we love has died. When we feel like this, we need to remember to reach out to God, like David did. God will help us and remind us that we are not alone. —ECW
“God, lift me up. Save me! I will praise God’s name in song. I will praise him with a song of thanks. This will make God happy!” Psalm 69:29b-31a
PRAYER: Father, thank You for always loving and helping me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—SP*

Never Alone
Bible Reading: Psalm 142:1-7
Friday, December 7, 2012

Never Alone The writer of Psalm 142 felt all alone. So, he prayed and asked God to help him. In verse 7b, he said he knew God would take care of him.
That’s how I felt recently. My job is to write grant (money) applications for a school district. One day I was asked to write a grant to fund something that I knew the Bible says is wrong. I needed to make a decision. Would I write the grant? Or would I follow God’s Word?
So I decided to do what the writer of this psalm did. I prayed and I read my Bible. I decided that I would refuse to write the grant. I knew that I might lose my job, but I felt it was more important to obey God.
I had a meeting with my boss and the superintendent. They told me that I might be fired. But God helped me be calm. I told them that I needed to obey God. In the end, they told me that they respected me and that I would not lose my job.
God did not leave me alone. He took care of me. He will take care of you today, too. —SP*

—ECW

God’s Help
Bible Reading: Psalm 121:1-8
Wednesday, November 14, 2012

God’s Help I love to look at mountains and hills. They are so beautiful! Our psalm today talks about hills. Verse 1 says, “I look up to the hills for help. But where will my help really come from?”
Hills are big and strong. When I feel weak, I might think that I can receive strength from something that is strong. But hills or mountains cannot help us. Only God can truly help us when we are depressed and lonely and weak.
This psalm continues to talk about God’s power and help. “God will not let you fall. Your Protector will not fall asleep” (verse 3). God is always ready to help us, twenty-four hours a day. We can always depend on Him.
Many people today look for help from drugs, alcohol or relationships. But real help comes from God. Ask Him to protect and give you strength to face your problems today. —ECW
“The Lord will protect your soul. The Lord will help as you come and go. The Lord will help you now and forever!” Psalm 121:8
PRAYER: God, I want to always look to You for my strength and protection. Thank You for helping me today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—AS

Always Believe in God
Bible Reading: Psalm 22:1-21
Tuesday September 18, 2012

Always Believe in God Do you ever think that God has left you? Or do you feel that God is not answering your prayers? Psalm 22 was written by David when he felt discouraged and alone. But I think David knew God loved him. David said, “God, the truth is that you really are the One I depend on...You have been my God since the day I was born” (verses 9-10a).
The verses in this psalm remind me of some other words. During World War II, millions of Jews were killed or placed in concentration camps. When the prisoners were finally freed, the soldiers found these words written on a wall: “I believe in the sun, even when it is not shining. I believe in love, even when I am alone. I believe in God, even when He is silent.”
Even though David felt that God was far away, he still knew that God would hear his prayer. David did not lose his faith in God. He held on to his faith and trusted God to take care of him.
“My God, my God! Why did you leave me? You are too far away to save me! You are too far away to hear my cries for help!” Psalm 22:1

“Now, our God, we thank you. And we praise your glorious name!” 1 Chronicles 29:13

PRAYER: Dear God, I will always trust You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
