Psalm 119 (17)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:129-136
Saturday, December 3, 2016

Psalm 119 is a long discussion between the writer and God. These verses teach us how we can learn from God's Word. In verses 129-136, we can find some guidelines to help us make God's Word most important in our lives.
Verse 129 says, “Lord, your rules are wonderful. That is why I follow them.” If we want to truly follow God, we must know that His rules are the best rules. Verse 130 tells us, “As people understand your word, it brings light to their lives. Your word makes even simple people wise.” We can read through the Bible many times, but we need to take God’s words and apply them to our daily lives.
In verse 133 the writer says to God, “Guide me, as you promised. Don't let evil rule over me.” When we study the Bible and obey it, we will be ready to resist the devil and the bad things he wants us to do. Depending on God's Word will keep us close to God.
Are you studying and obeying God's Word today? —BH

“I will obey your instructions. Accept your servant, and teach me your laws.” Psalm 119:134b-135
PRAYER: Lord, I want to be with You and read Your Word every day. Guide me and teach me today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Proverbs (4)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 3:1-8
Saturday, November 5, 2016

When we read and study the Bible, we should keep God's words and commands in our hearts. Then when we are tempted to do wrong, we can use God's words to help us stand strong and resist temptation.
In our Bible Reading for today, Solomon tells his son to remember what he has taught him. “What I teach will give you a good, long life, and all will go well for you” (verse 2). In the same way, we should always remember what we have learned from the Bible.
Verses 5 and 6 are very important for us to learn and remember. “Trust the Lord completely, and don't depend on your own knowledge. With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way.” When we are tempted or we face difficult situations, we are not alone. We can trust and depend on God! God’s words and commands will guide you today and show you what is right. —BR

“Don't trust in your own wisdom, but fear and respect the Lord and stay away from evil.” Proverbs 3:7
PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your words and commands. I want to always remember them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—BH

Psalm 119 (2)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:9-16
Sunday, September 4, 2016

It is important that we study God's Word, the Bible. When we study God's Word, we can learn how to obey Him. Verse 11 of our Bible Reading says, “I study your teachings very carefully so that I will not sin against you.”
Studying God's Word takes time and effort. Maybe you are wondering how to study the Bible. First, pray to God and ask Him to help you as you read His Word. Then take time to carefully read and study — don't hurry through the verses.
As you study the Bible, continue to pray. Ask God to help you understand His Word and to help you apply the verses to your life. God will show you how you can obey Him and grow as a Christian.
I hope you are excited to study the Bible. I encourage you to set aside a special time to pray and learn from God’s Word today and every day. —BH

Lord, you are worthy of praise! Teach me your laws. I will repeat the laws we have heard from you. I enjoy following your rules as much as others enjoy great riches.” Psalm 119:12-14

Wisdom
Bible Reading: Romans 11:33-36
Thursday, July 14, 2016

Most of the time we think that we know what is best for us. Sometimes we may even think we are wiser than God. But our Bible Reading today teaches us that God's “wisdom and knowledge have no end! No one can explain what God decides. No one can understand his ways” (verse 33b). Because God is wise, He always knows what is best for us.
God knows the future. He sees the “big picture” of our lives. We do not know what will happen tomorrow or next week or next year. That is why we need to ask God to help us and show us what to do.
When we face difficult decisions, we should not depend on our own wisdom or wisdom from the world. We should depend on God's wisdom. Where can we find God's wisdom? We find God's wisdom in His Word, the Bible. When we read the Bible and learn God's wisdom, we are relying on Him to lead us. Trust God to help and guide you every day! —BH

“Yes, God made all things and everything continues through him and for him. To God be the glory forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36

Be Safe
Bible Reading: Hebrews 2:1-3
Saturday, June 4, 2016

A man was in a rowboat on a river. Another man on a cliff above the river saw the rowboat headed toward a waterfall. He shouted to the man in the row boat, “You are headed toward a waterfall. Here is a life preserver. Grab hold of the life preserver so you can be safe.”
But the man in the rowboat ignored the man on the cliff. He did not grab hold of the life preserver. Soon his boat was pushed into rough waters, but it was too late to avoid the waterfall. The man died when his boat went over the waterfall.
Our Bible verses today talk about people who “don't pay attention to the salvation we have that is so great” (verse 3b). These people who do not accept God's salvation will be punished.

Don't ignore God's words. The only way to be safe is to accept God's gift of salvation through Jesus. Allow Jesus to be your Lord and Savior today! —BF*

“God says, ‘I have heard you at the right time, and I gave you help on the day of salvation.’ I tell you that the ‘right time’ is now. The ‘day of salvation’ is now.” 2 Corinthians 6:2

—DF

Seven Churches (1)
Bible Reading: Genesis 2:1-3
Friday, April 1, 2016

Seven is an important number in the Bible. In our Bible verses for today we see that when God created the world, He rested on the seventh day. God told Noah to take seven pairs of clean animals into the ark. For the Israelites, the seventh year was a year of rest for the land. The Gospel books of the New Testament record that Jesus spoke seven times when He was hanging on the cross.
The number seven is also mentioned many times in the book of Revelation. John talks about seven churches in Asia, seven golden lampstands, seven stars and many other things.
For the next few days we will learn about the seven churches that John mentions in Revelation, chapters 2 and 3. We will read Jesus’ messages for these churches and apply those messages to our lives.

Thank God today for His Word, the Bible. Thank Him for the wonderful world He made for you. —DF

—BH

Plenty of Water
Bible Reading: Psalm 1:1-6
Wednesday, January 20, 2016

One summer we planted a big garden. In most of the garden, we planted different kinds of vegetable seeds. But in one corner of the garden, I planted some marigold seeds.
We hooked up a hose with a rotating sprinkler so we could water the garden. But even when the hose was turned off, there was still a small drip of water that fell on the marigold seeds.
That summer was very hot and dry. We watered the garden when we could, but we did not have as many vegetables as we had hoped for. But the marigolds were tall and beautiful. Why? Those steady drops of water gave the marigolds plenty of moisture to help them grow.

Our Bible Reading reminds us that a tree by a stream of water will grow strong and tall. In the same way, if we are reading God's Word and talking to Him every day, we will be spiritually strong. —BH

“Instead, they love the Lord’s teachings and think about them day and night. So they grow strong, like a tree planted by a stream.” Psalm 1:2-3a

Ecclesiastes (8)
Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 8:16-17
Friday, August 28, 2015

Ecclesiastes (8) The world is filled with people who claim that they are wise. Some of these people even think that they can understand God. But that is not true. Verse 17a of our Bible Reading says, “I also saw that no one can understand all that God does.”
Do you know how many stars are in the sky? Do you know how big the universe is? Do you know how many drops of water are in the oceans? We don’t know these things, but God does!
When I think about those questions, I feel frustrated that I can’t figure out the answers. I need to realize that I am not wise like God. He does not expect me to have all the answers. But God does expect me to learn all I can and obey His teachings in the Bible.
When you think about the world today, remember that God is wise and all-knowing. Thank Him for His Word and ask Him to help you obey it. —JK

-TS

Distractions
Bible Reading: Matthew 6:25-34
Thursday, August 20, 2015

Distractions There are many things in the world that can distract us from following God. Text messages, phone calls, e-mails and Facebook keep us busy. We think that we don’t have time to pray and think about God’s Word.
Because there are so many distractions around us, we need to plan to spend quiet time with God every day. Find a place where you can be alone. Turn off the TV and put away your laptop and phone. Spend time reading the Bible and communicating with God.
When we spend time with God, we worry less. Our Bible verses today remind us not to worry about things we need in life. Instead, we need to remember that God loves us and will always take care of us.
Focus on God and His Word, and don’t let things in the world distract you. —TS

Patience (5)
Bible Reading: James 1:2-12
Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Patience (5) As I write this devotion, it is 2:00 in the morning. My physical problems are causing me pain, and I cannot sleep. We all have times of suffering in our lives. These times are opportunities for us to show patience.
The Bible is filled with verses that encourage us when we suffer. Reading these verses helps us be more patient. Romans 12:12 says, “Be happy because of the hope you have. Be patient when you have troubles. Pray all the time.” 1 Peter 2:20b tells us, “...if you suffer for doing good and you are patient, this pleases God.”
In our Bible Reading today, James helps us understand that we will suffer but we need to be patient. “If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be” (verse 4).
When you suffer, be patient. And depend on God’s Word to give you peace and strength. —DF
