Thanksgiving Recipes
Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Tuesday, November 22, 2016

In my kitchen, I have a wooden recipe box. I keep all my cooking recipes in this box. My recipes are divided into different categories — cakes, cookies, casseroles, soups, etc.
But way in the back of the box, I have some special recipes. These recipes were written by my mother many years ago. My husband and I were planning to go to my parents’ house for Thanksgiving, but my husband had to work. I was so disappointed! But my mother wrote out all my favorite Thanksgiving recipes and sent them to me so I could prepare our own dinner. I treasure these recipes because my mother took time to write them down for me.
God has taken the time to prepare His Word, the Bible, for us. Our Bible verses for today remind us that the Bible is from God and is useful to help us become strong and growing Christians.
The Bible is God's gift to you. Treasure it and keep it close to you! —JK

“Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:17
PRAYER: God, thank You for giving me the Bible. Help me to depend on it every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Gift of Life
Bible Reading: John 14:1-4
Thursday, October 6, 2016

Soon my husband was going into surgery. He was donating one of his kidneys to a young person who was very sick. I asked my family and friends to pray for him.
In response to my request, my brother sent me a message that included verse 2 from our Bible Reading. “There are many rooms in my Father's house. I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” When I read that, I was afraid. Was my husband going to die? What if my husband died during surgery but the young person's life was saved? Then I thought about Jesus. He willingly gave up His life so that we can have the gift of eternal life.
I praise God that my husband got through the surgery fine. But I also praise God for reminding me about His precious gift of life through Jesus. We will all face times of sickness or death during our lives. Ask God to help you use these experiences to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. —JS

“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.’” John 14:6
PRAYER: Dear God, thank You that Jesus was willing to die for me. In His name. Amen.

—DF

Faith Journey (3)
Bible Reading: Romans 6:3-11
Friday, September 9, 2016

When I was older, I stopped going to church. When I met my husband, he was not a Christian. So it was easy for me to not go to church. But I was not happy with my life!
A doctor told us that we could not have children. So when our son, Matthew, was born, I knew he was a special gift from God. My husband and I started attending different churches. One church taught things that were not in the Bible, and at another church, no one spoke to us. We became discouraged and wondered if there was a church that followed the Bible.
Finally, we found a Bible-believing church. The minister helped us understand that we needed to make Jesus our Lord and Savior. My husband and I were baptized. That was the happiest day of our lives! That was forty years ago, and we are still praising God for leading us to a church that followed His Word.
Our Bible verses today tell us how we can be joined with Jesus. I hope that you are living a new life and serving Him! —DF

—CPE*

Giving (3)
Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 6:11-19
Monday, June 13, 2016

God's gifts to us are far greater than anything we could ever give back to Him. For this we should always be very, very thankful!
The most precious gift God has given to us is His Son, Jesus. John 3:16 says, “Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.” Another beautiful gift God has given us is eternal life. Romans 6:23b says, “…God gives his people a free gift – eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Here Paul is telling us that God's gift is free. We cannot buy it or earn it. We only can humbly receive it from God.
God also gives wisdom. James 1:5 says, “Do any of you need wisdom? Ask God for it. He is generous and enjoys giving to everyone. So he will give you wisdom.” Since God knows everything, ask Him to give you wisdom. God has given us His Son, eternal life and wisdom! Take time to praise God and appreciate all that God has given us! —CPE*

“Tell them to hope in God, not their money. Money cannot be trusted, but God takes care of us richly. He gives us everything to enjoy.” 1 Timothy 6:17b
PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for all Your gifts to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—MC*

Power of Prayer
Bible Reading: James 5:13-18
Friday, January 29, 2016

I went to an international conference on missions. There they had a “wall of prayer.” Written on a wall were the names of different countries and missions around the world.
I was very touched to read about all the missions in the world. I prayed for people in these countries who do not know Jesus. I prayed especially for people in my home country of Chile. I want people in Chile to know about Jesus and His wonderful gift of salvation.

Our Bible verses today show us that prayer is very important. James gives the example of Elijah who prayed for rain, and it happened. James also reminds us that we should pray when we are having troubles, when we are sick, or when we are struggling with sin.

Spend time in prayer today. Pray for people around the world who do not know Jesus. And pray for Christians who have problems or are sick. God will pay attention to your prayers! —MC*

“Anyone who lives the way God wants can pray, and great things will happen.” James 5:16b
PRAYER: Father, thank You that I can pray to You every day. And thank You for always paying attention to my prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—SAH

Celebrate Jesus
Bible Reading: Matthew 1:18-24
Friday, December 11, 2015

Celebrate Jesus
On Christmas Day, when my children were small, all the gifts would be unwrapped by 9 a.m. Then by New Year's Day, I would put away all the holiday decorations. It looked like Christmas was over. But, as Christians, we should celebrate Jesus all year long.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our Savior. Jesus was born to the virgin, Mary. In our Bible verses today, we read that the angel told Joseph to name the baby Jesus. “Give him that name because he will save his people from their sins” (verse 21b).
Over 2,000 years ago, God gave His Son, Jesus, to the world. Jesus is better than any gift we could ever hope to receive. Through Jesus' death and resurrection we have the promise of eternal life. That is something that we should always celebrate!
Celebrate Jesus' birth this December. But remember to celebrate His gift of salvation every day of the year. —SAH
“When people sin, they earn what sin pays — death. But God gives his people a free gift — eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
PRAYER: Father, I celebrate the wonderful gift of Your Son. In His name. Amen.

God With Us
Bible Reading: Isaiah 7:14-16
Wednesday, December 2, 2015

God With Us Matthew 1:23 says, “The virgin will be pregnant and will give birth to a son. They will name him Immanuel. (Immanuel means ‘God with us.’)” This verse is a quote from our Bible Reading today. Isaiah prophesied that a virgin (Mary) would give birth to a baby (Jesus). Isaiah also said that Mary’s baby would be called “Immanuel.”
Jesus came to earth as a baby. This event was God coming to live among people. Jesus was born just like you and I were born. He grew up, He ate food, and He worked. But Jesus was different. He was a man, and He was also God!
God came to earth in the form of Jesus. He suffered like we suffer. God and Jesus understand what it feels like to be sad or hungry or lonely or tempted. Because God and Jesus understand these things, they can give us help and comfort.
Thank God for Jesus — His wonderful gift for all people in the world! —ECW

Christmas in July (2) Some people like to buy Christmas gifts during sales in July. They are happy to find good bargains on Christmas gifts.
Christmas gifts are nice, but we should remember that our greatest gift is Jesus! In our Bible Reading today, we learn about Simeon who was serving in the temple. He was waiting to see the Messiah — the One whom God would send to be the Savior of the world. The Holy Spirit told Simeon that he would see the Messiah before he died.
When Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple, Simeon knew that Jesus was the Messiah. Simeon thanked God for letting him see Jesus. Simeon prayed, “I have seen with my own eyes how you will save your people” (verse 30).

Free Gift
Bible Reading: John 3:16-17
Friday, April 17, 2015

Free Gift Every summer our town has an event called “Crazy Days.” Merchants in town sell things at lower prices than normal. Sometimes people can find real bargains at Crazy Days.
This year I went shopping on Crazy Days. People sold summer items to make room for fall and winter merchandise. One of the local grocery stores even had a free breakfast in the park. That was a nice thing to do, and many people appreciated the free food.
Our short Bible Reading today tells us that God has given us something much better than a free breakfast. He has given us the free gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus. What is so special about God’s gift? God sent Jesus to die for us so we can have the promise of eternal life with Him. Through Jesus’ death, our sins have been forgiven.

-IMJ

Christmas Gifts
Bible Reading: Matthew 2:1-12
Wednesday, December 24, 2014

Christmas Gifts The Christmas tradition of giving gifts is based on our Bible verses today. The wise men gave gifts to Jesus.
Our Bible Reading mentions three gifts that the wise men brought to Jesus. These men brought gifts that were very special and valuable — gold, frankincense and myrrh. Later, Joseph and Mary may have sold these gifts and used the money for their trip to Egypt.
We all know that gold is a valuable metal. Frankincense is a white sticky substance that comes from the bark of a tree. People burned frankincense as part of their worship. Myrrh comes from a small bush and was burned as a perfume or used to prepare people for burial.
The best gift that you can give this Christmas is to give your life to Jesus. If you are not a Christian, I hope you will start following Jesus as your Savior. If you are already a Christian, examine your life and make sure you are giving Jesus all of your life. —IMJ
