Psalm 119 (13)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:97-104
Saturday, November 19, 2016

The New Testament teaches us that we should never stop praying to God (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We can pray to God anywhere at any time. But I wonder if we are constantly studying God's Word.
In verses 97-98a of our Bible Reading for today, the writer says, “Oh, how I love your teachings! I talk about them all the time. Your commands are always with me.” These verses indicate that we should be reading and studying the Bible all the time.
Do you love to read God's Word? Some people do not like to read the Bible because it shows them the wrong things they do. And some people do not want to follow God and live differently than the world.
The Bible is our help and our guide. God wants us to follow His teachings every day, not just part of the time. When we study God's Word, we can remember Bible verses and keep them with us constantly. —BH

“Great blessings belong to those who don't listen to evil advice...Instead, they love the Lord's teachings and think about them day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2

Mary's Thoughts
Bible Reading: Luke 2:1-20
Thursday, December 3, 2015

Mary's Thoughts God's angel told Mary that she would give birth to God's Son. This happened before Mary and Joseph were married. Then they traveled to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Those nine months of Mary's pregnancy must have been filled with excitement and many questions.
But it seems that Mary never doubted God. She always praised and thanked Him. Mary must have wondered about her miraculous pregnancy and the birth of Jesus. Verse 19 of our Bible Reading says, “Mary continued to think about these things, trying to understand them.”
Sometimes we see that God has done something special in our lives. Or we may realize that God has answered our prayers. Or we might read some Bible verses that give us help and encouragement. We should be like Mary. We should continue to think about these things so we can grow spiritually.
Take some time today to think about the many ways God has blessed you. —BH
“I will study your instructions. I will give thought to your way of life.” Psalm 119:15
PRAYER: Lord, help me to think about the many ways You bless my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Sports
Bible Reading: Hebrews 12:1-3
Monday, July 6, 2015

Sports During the summer, many people in Iowa play baseball or run in a marathon. The nice weather is a perfect time to get outside and get some exercise.
If a person wants to run in a race, they need to train by running every day. They also need to focus on the goal of winning the race and not let other things distract them. In our Bible Reading today, the writer of Hebrews talks about running a race. But this is not a physical race. This is the race to receive the prize of eternal life with God.
These verses tell us several things we should do. First, we should try to remove sin from our lives. Second, we should “never stop looking to Jesus” (verse 2a). And third, we should think about Jesus so that we will not become discouraged.
I hope that you will always remember how much God loves you. Keep following Him every day, and never give up! —JK
“Think about Jesus. He patiently endured the angry insults that sinful people were shouting at him. Think about him so that you won’t get discouraged and stop trying.” Hebrews 12:3

Good Thoughts
Bible Reading: Philippians 4:4-9
Sunday, August 10, 2014

Good Thoughts It is often hard for me to think good thoughts. Even when I am sitting in church, my mind sometimes begins to wander. Other times I think and think about bad times in my life.
In our Bible Reading, Paul tells us to “think about what is good and worthy of praise” (verse 8b). Then Paul goes on in that verse to add that we should think about “what is true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected.” If we want to do that, we need to discipline our thoughts.
When I start to think bad thoughts, I try to remember good things that have happened in my life. I think about the many ways God has blessed me. I also like to think about the births of my five children. Those were good times that happened in my life.
When the devil tempts you to think about bad things, ask God to help you remember good things that have happened to you. Praise God for the good things He has done. —JL*
“And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over your thoughts and feelings.” Philippians 4:7a
PRAYER: Father, I want to praise You and think about good things. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Most Important Thing
Bible Reading: Psalm 46:1-11
Wednesday May 29, 2013

Most Important Thing Ecclesiastes 12:13b says, “The most important thing a person can do is to respect God and obey His commands.”
If we want to respect God and obey Him, it is important that we find time to think about Him. We should think about what God is like, what He has done for us and what He has prepared for us in the future.
Our Bible Reading today tells us many things about God. He is our protection and source of strength (verse 1). God is all-powerful (verse 7). And, He controls the world (verse 8). We should take time to think about these things, too.
I encourage you to sit down today and spend some time thinking about God. Read Bible verses that tell what He has done for other people. Make a list of things God has done in your life. This time will refresh you and make you more excited about serving Him.
I hope that you will respect and obey God today. And remember to spend time with Him! —NW
“God says, ‘Stop fighting and know that I am God! I am the one who defeats the nations; I am the one who controls the world.’” Psalm 46:10

Lessons from God
Bible Reading: Psalm 78:12-25
Friday, February 15, 2013

Lessons from God God teaches us many lessons throughout our lives. But sometimes we fail to learn from these lessons. Then we keep making the same mistakes again and again.
In our verses today, the writer tells us about the wonderful things God did for the Israelites. God parted the Red Sea, and He led them every day. Then God gave them water from a rock. But instead of trusting God, the Israelites said (verse 20), “Yes, he struck the rock and a flood of water came out. But can he give us bread and meat?” These people had not learned the lesson about God’s faithfulness.
I have a friend who is always worried about the future. He tells me about the wonderful things God has done in his life. But my friend hasn’t learned that God will take care of him in the future, too.
It is important for us to learn from the Israelites. Instead of questioning God, we should think about the wonderful things He has done. Then we should feel safe, knowing that God will continue to love and protect us. —SH*
“They forgot the great things he had done and the amazing things he had shown them.” Psalm 78:11
PRAYER: God, I know that You will always take care of me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Purity
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8
Friday, August 31, 2012

Purity Purity means controlling our minds and bodies so that we obey God. But how can we do this?
First, we need to study the Bible. Then we will know what God wants us to do and how we can resist temptation. Second, we should not think impure thoughts. If we think about doing something wrong, we will probably do it.
Third, we need to remember that our bodies belong to God. Verse 7 of our Bible Reading says, “God called us to be holy. He does not want us to live in sin.” God wants us to let Him control our thoughts and our bodies.
Fourth, we can help each other live pure and holy lives. Christians should remind each other to stay pure. Galatians 6:1a tells us, “Brothers and sisters, a person in your group might do something wrong. You people who are spiritual should go to the person who is sinning. You should help to make him right again.”
I hope you are keeping yourself pure for God. —GT

“God wants each one of you to learn to control your own body. Use your body in a way that is holy and that gives honor to God.” 1 Thessalonians 4:4

PRAYER: Father, I want to have a pure life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
