God Hates Sin
Bible Reading: Acts 5:1-11
Sunday, June 26, 2016

Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, sold some land. They gave part of the money they received to the church and kept some money for themselves. But Ananias and Sapphira said that they gave all the money to the church. Both of them lied to God.
Because of their lies, Ananias and Sapphira died. Verse 11 tells us that then the “whole church and all the other people who heard about this were filled with fear.” I am sure many people were shocked by this, but God wanted the church to know that He will not tolerate sin.
God loves us so much! He wants us to stop sinning. Why? Because sin in our lives separates us from God. God wants to be close to us so we can enjoy our relationship with Him.
When you are tempted to disobey God, remember that he hates sin. Ask Him to keep you strong and help you resist the temptation. God will never fail you! —SH*

“...God is being patient with you. He doesn't want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change their ways and stop sinning.” 2 Peter 3:9b
PRAYER: Father, help me to change and to stop sinning. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—CW*

List of Sins
Bible Reading: 1 John 1:5-10
Saturday, June 18, 2016

When I was in school, I played in the band. Our band teacher had many rules for us to obey. We were not to miss a band practice or come late to a practice. And we could not forget to bring our musical instrument to school.
The band teacher had a chart on the wall. If we broke any of his rules, he would make a mark on the chart. Each time we received a mark by our name, he punished us. If we received too many marks, he would send home a letter to our parents. We did not want that to happen, so we tried to obey his rules.
I am so glad that God is not like that band teacher. God does not keep a list of our sins. Verse 9 of our Bible Reading says, “But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this...He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.”
I am so thankful that God will forgive me. Praise God for His love and forgiveness today! —CW*

“Lord, if you punished people for all their sins, no one would be left alive. But you forgive people, so they fear and respect you.” Psalm 130:3-4
PRAYER: Thank You, Father, for Your love and forgiveness. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—BP*

Stop Sinning
Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:26-31
Wednesday, June 1, 2016

Sometimes people say that “history repeats itself.” That means something has happened in the past and then the same thing happens again.
The Old Testament tells us that many times the Israelites stopped worshiping God. They turned from God and started worshiping false gods. That same thing has happened over and over again through the years. History has repeated itself. And today people continue to turn from God and focus on things in the world.
Our Bible verses remind us that we should never forget that we need to obey God every day. He offers us salvation and eternal life through His Son, Jesus. “If we continue sinning, then all that is left for us is a fearful time of waiting for the judgment and the angry fire that will destroy those who live against God” (verse 27).
As Christians we should obey God and share His Word with everyone. Then future generations will not turn away from God. —BP*

“We know that God said, ‘I will punish people for the wrongs they do; I will repay them.’” Hebrews 10:30a
PRAYER: Father, You are worthy of all our honor, glory and love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—JK

Bible Animals (8)
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 2:20-22
Sunday, May 22, 2016

When I was in high school, one of my friends took a pig to be judged at the country fair. When it was time to bring the pig to the fair, she carefully cleaned and brushed her pig. But while my friend was not looking, the pig got loose and ran to a mud puddle! Pigs love to be in the mud. Rolling in the mud helps pigs to keep cool.
In our Bible verses today, Peter talks about people who have become Christians. These people have been “made free from the evil in the world” (verse 20b). But if these people go back to their old life of sin, “it is worse for them than it was before” (verse 20b). Peter used the illustration of a pig: “After a pig is washed, it goes back and rolls in the mud again” (verse 22b).
When we become a Christian, we are spiritually clean. But some Christians choose to go back to their life of sin again, just like a pig goes back to the mud. Be sure that you are following and obeying God every day. —JK

A New Life
Bible Reading: Genesis 3:1-13
Monday, May 2, 2016

Our Bible verses today tell us that Adam
and Eve
disobeyed
God. God had
told Adam
and Eve they should not eat from one special tree in the garden. But a snake (the devil) tempted Eve, and she ate from the tree. Then
she gave some to Adam, and he ate, too. Adam and Eve sinned. Romans 5:12a says, “Sin came into the world because of what one man did. And with sin came death.”
But God loved Adam and Eve. He did not want them to be separated from Him forever. So God made a plan for Jesus to come to earth and die on a cross. When Jesus died, He accepted the punishment for Adam and Eve's sin and for all people's sin.
When we repent of our sin and obey Jesus, He becomes our Savior. God forgives our sins and gives us new life through Jesus. I hope that you are following and obeying Jesus. If not, you can have a new life, too. Repent of your sins and obey God's plan for your life. Then you will live forever with Him! —DJH*

“Your old sinful self has died, and your new life is kept with Christ in glory. Yes, Christ is now your life, and when he comes again, you will share in his glory.” Colossians 3:3-4
PRAYER: Father, thank You for loving me and for my new life in Jesus. In His name. Amen.

—DF

Seven Churches (6)
Bible Reading: Revelation 2:18-29
Wednesday, April 6, 2016

The city of Thyatira was located 30 miles southeast of Pergamum. Many Roman soldiers were stationed there. Thyatira was known for producing wool and beautiful dyes.
Jesus began His message to the church by praising them. “I know what you do. I know about your love, your faith, your service, and your patience. I know that you are doing more now than you did at first” (verse 19). But then Jesus talked about a woman who had led many Christians into doing sinful things. Jesus said about these unfaithful people, “...I will repay each of you for what you have done” (verse 23b).
Today our culture is becoming more corrupt. It is easy to follow things in the world instead of following God and His Word. We should pay careful attention to the warning that God gave the church in Thyatira. We need to remember Jesus' encouragement to these Christians: “...hold on to the truth you have until I come” (verse 25). —DF

—GT

Anger
Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 29:24-28
Friday, March 4, 2016

Did you know that God can become angry? The Bible tells about many times when God became angry. In our Bible Reading today, God became angry with the Israelites because they were worshiping other gods. Verse 28 says, “The Lord became very angry and upset with them. So he took them out of their land. He put them in another land, where they are today.”
God was angry. Does that mean He sinned? No! But many people believe that anger is a sin. That isn't true. Anger is an emotion, like love. It is not wrong to be angry. But anger can lead us to do sinful things. Anger becomes sin when we say or do wrong things because we are angry.

We all become angry at times. But we should not let our anger cause us to sin. Ask God to help you behave in the right way when you become angry. Ask Him to help you show love and mercy to others. —GT

“When you are angry, don't let that anger make you sin, and don't stay angry all day. Don't give the devil a way to defeat you.” Ephesians 4:26-27
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me show love, not anger, to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

-MS

Sin
Bible Reading: Genesis 3:1-13
Monday, August 31, 2015

Sin Sin means breaking God’s rules. We can see sin all around us every day. We see it in movies and TV that we watch and in books and magazines that we read.
Our Bible Reading today tells us about the first sin on earth. God made the earth, and He also made the first people. God put these people, Adam and Eve, in a special garden. And God gave them one rule: “You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden. You must not even touch that tree, or you will die” (verse 3b).
One day the devil came to Eve and tempted her to eat the fruit from that tree. The devil said that she would not die if she ate the fruit. So Eve ate some and gave some to Adam. They disobeyed God. This was the first sin.
Since that time, all people have struggled with sin. The devil tries to trick us into disobeying God. But we should stand strong and turn away from the devil. Pray to God and ask Him to help you stand against the devil today. —MS

-GT

Bible Study
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:9-16
Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Bible Study In Psalm 119, the word “study” is used seven times. So the psalm writer must have thought that studying God’s Word was important. When we understand God’s Word, we can obey it and not sin. Verse 15 says, “I will study your instructions. I will give thought to your way of life.”
Studying the Bible may seem hard to you. Maybe you aren’t sure where to start. Or maybe you struggle with understanding Bible verses. One idea that may help you is to study the Bible with a Christian friend.
You and a friend can read a Bible passage together and then talk about what you have read. You can ask questions like, “Who wrote these verses?” “To whom were these verses written?” “What is happening in these verses?” “What does God want us to learn from these verses?”
I hope that you study God’s Word every day. Then you can say, “I enjoy your laws. I will not forget your word” (verse 16). —GT
“I study your teachings very carefully so that I will not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

—PD

Hiding
Bible Reading: Genesis 3:6-13
Thursday, April 30, 2015

Hiding Children love to play a game of hide and seek. Sometimes the person who is searching cannot find their friends. So they say, “Come out wherever you are!” The children leave their hiding places and continue the game.
Our Bible Reading today tells us that Adam and Eve disobeyed God. So what did they do? They tried to hide from God. “During the cool part of the day, the Lord God was walking in the garden. The man and the woman heard him, and they hid among the trees in the garden. The Lord God called to the man and said, ‘Where are you?' The man said, ‘I heard you walking in the garden, and I was afraid. I was naked, so I hid'” (verses 8-10).
Hiding from friends while playing a game is fun. But trying to hide from God is foolish. God knew where Adam and Eve were. They just didn't want to face God and their sin. God is loving and willing to forgive our sin. Don't try to hide from Him. Ask Him to bring you into a right relationship with Him. —PD
