—CPE*

Jesus' Life (8)
Bible Reading: Matthew 27:32-44
Thursday, October 20, 2016

Roman soldiers took Jesus to a place called Golgotha. There they nailed Jesus to a cross.
When Jesus was on the cross, many people walked by and shouted insults at Him. Priests, teachers of the law and Jewish leaders made fun of Jesus. Some of these people said (verse 40b), “So save yourself! Come down from that cross if you really are the Son of God!” And the criminals on the other crosses insulted Jesus, too.
Even though people insulted Jesus, He did not become angry. Jesus didn't talk back to the people. He didn't seek revenge. Why? Because Jesus knew He had to die so our sins could be forgiven. Jesus knew God's great plan for saving us!
When you follow Jesus, other people may insult you. What will you do? Will you become angry, talk back or seek revenge? Be like Jesus. Trust God. Be thankful that He has forgiven your sins and has a plan for you. Pray for other people, too, that they will believe in Jesus and follow Him. —CPE*

“Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing.’” Luke 23:34a
PRAYER: Dear God, help me to stand strong for You even when other people insult me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Old Testament (9)
Bible Reading: Leviticus 1:1-17
Monday, October 3, 2016

Often people are afraid to read Leviticus. Leviticus can be a difficult book to read and understand. But we can learn many things from studying this book.
There are five offerings mentioned in Leviticus — the burnt offering, the meal offering, the peace offering, the trespass offering and the sin offering. Each offering has a purpose, and they all point to Jesus in the New Testament. The burnt offering mentioned in our Bible verses involved killing an animal that had nothing wrong with it. Blood had to be splashed. And God would accept it to make a person pure.
Jesus became our “burnt offering.” He could do this because He never did anything wrong. He was killed on a cross, and His blood covered all our sins. Because of what Jesus did for us, we can be made pure. Then God will accept us. Isn’t that neat? Maybe now you will be more excited to read and learn from Leviticus! —CPE*

“Don’t you know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit that you received from God and that lives in you. You don’t own yourselves.” 1 Corinthians 6:19
PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for Jesus who is my “burnt offering.” In His name. Amen.

Weather (4)
Bible Reading: James 4:13-16
Wednesday, August 3, 2016

Some mornings when I drive to Deaf Missions, it is foggy outside. I may drive through dense fog for miles. Then suddenly the fog is completely gone and I can see the sun shining.
In our Bible Reading today, James talked about fog. In verse 14 he said, “You don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Your life is like a fog. You can see it for a short time, but then it goes away.” James is talking about the shortness of life. When compared to eternity, our lives on earth are very short.
Because our lives are short, we should use our time wisely. We should not waste our time worrying about getting more money or possessions or fame. Instead, we should think about obeying God and teaching other people about Jesus and His plan of salvation.
God has given you this day. You don’t know what may happen tomorrow. Use today to serve and glorify God! —JK

“You gave me only a short life. Compared to you, my whole life is nothing. The life of every human is like a cloud that quickly disappears.” Psalm 39:5a
PRAYER: God, I want to use my time wisely for You today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—DVH*

God's Servant
Bible Reading: Isaiah 52:13-53:12
Sunday, June 5, 2016

I read these words of the praise song, “Here I Am to Worship” — “I’ll never know how much it cost to see my sin upon that cross.” These words talk about how much God loves us and how much Jesus suffered so that we could have our sins forgiven.
Our Bible verses today are a prophecy about God's servant. This servant was humble and was treated very badly. He was “crushed because of our guilt” and “took the punishment we deserved” (verse 5). Who is this servant? Jesus!
Jesus never sinned. But He accepted our sins and died on the cross. He was punished instead of us. Through Jesus' death we are made right with God. This is amazing!
We can never measure Jesus' sacrifice for us. Praise and thank God today for His Son and His willingness to die for us! —DVH*

“He was considered a criminal, but the truth is, he carried away the sins of many. Now he will stand before me and speak for those who have sinned.” Isaiah 53:12b
PRAYER: Father, when I think about Your great love, I am so amazed! Thank You for salvation through Jesus. In His name. Amen.

Birth Story (11)
Bible Reading: Galatians 4:1-7
Tuesday, December 22, 2015

Verses 4 and 5 of our Bible Reading say, “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, who was born from a woman and lived under the law. God did this so that he could buy the freedom of those who were under the law. God's purpose was to make us his children.”
At just the right time, God sent Jesus to earth to be our Redeemer. What is a redeemer? A redeemer is a person who buys back something that already belongs to him.
God created people to belong to Him. But then sin came into the world. That sin separated people from God. God wanted to be close to people again, so He sent His Son, Jesus, to buy people back — to redeem them.
Jesus came to redeem people — that includes you and me! God wants us to be close to Him and be part of His family.
Take time this Christmas season to remember what Jesus has done for you. Then thank God for Jesus, your Redeemer! —GT

“Then a redeemer will come to Zion to save the people of Jacob who have turned away from sin.”
Isaiah 59:20
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for Jesus, my Redeemer. In His name. Amen.

Birth Story (8)
Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 18:15-18
Saturday, December 19, 2015

For the past few days we have been talking about Jesus’ birth. Today we will learn that Jesus was born to be a prophet.
In our Bible verses today, Moses told the Israelites, “The Lord your God will send to you a prophet. This prophet will come from among your own people, and he will be like me. You must listen to him” (verse 15). Who was this prophet Moses was talking about? Moses was talking about Jesus.
Many years before Jesus was born, God promised to send a special Prophet. This Prophet would give people an important message from God. This Prophet would tell people about God, His plan of salvation and His kingdom.
Jesus shared God's important message while He was on earth. We can find that message in the Bible. Now God wants each of us to share that message with other people.
Share God's message about His plan of salvation with someone today! —GT

“The crowds following Jesus answered, ‘This is Jesus. He is the prophet from the town of Nazareth in Galilee.’” Matthew 21:11
PRAYER: Father, I want to obey You and share Your message with others today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
