—CPE*

Old Testament (10)
Bible Reading: Leviticus 8:1-36
Tuesday, October 4,2016

There are lots of things in the book of Leviticus that point to Jesus in the New Testament. In yesterday's devotion we learned that Jesus is our “burnt offering.” In today's Bible Reading, we see another thing that points to Jesus.
Aaron and his sons were appointed to be high priests. Moses put the blood of a ram on the tip of their right ears, on the thumb of their right hands, and on the big toe of their right feet. Moses also sprinkled some anointing oil and blood on Aaron and his sons' clothing to make them holy. Aaron and his sons did everything that the Lord commanded them to do.
In the New Testament, Jesus was appointed as our high priest. He was holy and did everything His Father in heaven commanded Him to do. When Jesus died on the cross, His blood was shed so that our sins may be forgiven. Thank God for His Son, Jesus, who is our High Priest! —CPE*

“So, my brothers and sisters, those chosen by God to be his holy people, think about Jesus. He is the one we believe God sent to save us and to be our high priest.” Hebrews 3:1
PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You for Jesus who is my High Priest. In His name. Amen.

—CPE*

Holy
Bible Reading: Isaiah 6:1-7
Monday, January 25, 2016

In our Bible Reading for today, the prophet Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on a very high and wonderful throne in the temple. The Lord was wearing a long robe that filled the temple. Isaiah also saw seraph angels around the Lord. The angels used their wings to cover their faces and bodies. I believe they did this because the Lord God is holy.
The same thing happened with Moses in Exodus 3. When God appeared to Moses in a burning bush, Moses covered his face (verse 6). Moses knew that God is holy.
After Isaiah saw the angels in the temple cover their faces and bodies, he heard them say to each other in Isaiah 6:3, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord All-Powerful. His Glory fills the whole earth.”

God is truly holy. He is perfect. God has never sinned. He can never sin. God loves everything that is pure and good and holy. Thanks to God and His forgiveness of our sins through His Son, Jesus, we can be holy, too. As His children, God wants us to live like Him. —CPE*

“Be holy in everything you do, just as God is holy. He is the one who chose you.” 1 Peter 1:15
PRAYER: God, You are holy, holy, holy. Thank You for forgiveness of my sins. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Purity
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
Sunday, January 10, 2016

Every day we can see examples of sexual impurity on billboards, TV, the Internet and even in clothing stores. As time goes by, people have become more accepting of behavior that the Bible says is wrong.
In our Bible verses today, Paul talks about how to please God. He had a lot to say about sexual immorality — sexual behavior that is outside the Biblical plan for marriage. Paul uses some strong words in these verses. Verse 8 says, “So anyone who refuses to obey this teaching is refusing to obey God, not us. And God is the one who gives you his Holy Spirit.”
God says that sexual purity is very important. So we should think it is important, too. God wants all believers to avoid sexual immorality and be pure. If you are struggling with keeping yourself pure, ask God to help you understand His Word. He will help you control your body and give Him glory. —EP*

“God wants you to be holy. He wants you to stay away from sexual sins. God wants each one of you to learn to control your own body. Use your body in a way that is holy and that gives honor to God.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
PRAYER: God, I want to live a holy and pure life for You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

1 Thessalonians (5)
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12
Wednesday, September 17, 2014

1 Thessalonians (5) Many people in our world today want to live in a fancy home or make lots of money. But our Bible verses today tell us about living a life that pleases God. These verses don’t talk about what kind of house we have or what kind of job we do. Paul talks about what kind of a person we are.
The first thing God wants for us is to be holy — “to stay away from sexual sins” (verse 3b). We should honor God with our bodies. He “does not want us to live in sin” (verse 7b). God also wants us to love each other. Paul said that the believers were already doing that, but they needed to do it more and more. We can never love too much!
The third thing that pleases God is to live a peaceful life. Paul told the believers in Thessalonica, “Mind your own business, and earn your own living” (verse 11a). If we do these things, non-believers will respect us.
Are you living a life that pleases God? I encourage you to “live that way more and more” (verse 1b). —KR
“We encourage you now, brothers and sisters, to show your love more and more.” 1 Thessalonians 4:10b
PRAYER: Father, I want to live a life that pleases You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—ES

A Godly Person
Bible Reading: Psalm 15:1-5
Thursday, October 24, 2013

A Godly Person My grandfather told me that when he was growing up, people sealed deals with just a handshake. They didn’t need to write a contract. That was truly a time of honesty and trust among people.
I watch the news today, and I see people who are dishonest and greedy. They are not godly people. In Psalm 15, the writer describes a godly person. Let’s look at what a godly person is like.
Verse 2 says that a godly person lives a pure life, does what is right and speaks only the truth. Verse 3 tells us three things that godly people do not do. They do not say bad things about people, do bad things to them or gossip about them. Verse 4 says that godly people will do what they promise to do and verse 5 says that they will be honest.
Are you a godly person? Do these things describe you? If not, depend on the Holy Spirit to work in your life to develop these characteristics. —ES

—JS*

Be Holy
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 3:1-13
Thursday, October 3, 2013

Be Holy In our Bible verses today, Peter encouraged Christians to examine their lives and to be holy. In verse 11b Peter said, “So what kind of people should you be? Your lives should be holy and devoted to God.”
As Christians, we need to make sure that we are living holy lives. But how can we do that? If we want to be holy, we need to be sincere, sober, unselfish, patient and faithful. We are sincere when we are honest with others and with ourselves. Being sober means that we will be alert so we can fight off the devil’s attacks. We are unselfish when we focus on other people instead of ourselves.
We should also be patient. We need to be patient with other people as well as being patient for Jesus to come back. Finally, we should stay faithful to Jesus and continue to teach others about Him.
If we are holy, we will understand more about God’s love. Then we will want to share it with other people. And, God will reward us for our faithfulness. —JS*
“But God is being patient with you. He doesn’t want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change their ways and stop sinning.” 2 Peter 3:9b
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to live a life of holiness for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God’s Word
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:9-16
Tuesday, July 30, 2013

God’s Word These verses in Psalm 119 tell us about God’s Word. Studying God’s Word carefully helps us avoid sin.
It is important that we study the Bible and memorize it. Several of my grandchildren have been involved in a Bible program where they memorize entire books of the Bible. When they have God’s Word in their minds, it is easier for them to obey it.
These verses also tell us more things about God’s Word. A young person can live a pure life by obeying the Bible (verse 9). We should enjoy studying and learning God’s rules (verses 14 and 16). And, we should think about God’s Word and not forget it (verses 15-16).
There are many ways we can learn God’s Word. We can study it alone, or we can learn from Bible-based sermons and lessons. These will help us apply God’s Word to our everyday lives.
Get into God’s Word today! —IMJ
“Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:17

—JS*

God is Holy
Bible Reading: Leviticus 19:1-5
Thursday, July 18 2013

God is Holy God is truly holy and pure. So we might wonder why God would want to have a relationship with sinners. Some people think that God doesn’t want a relationship with us. These people say that God is pure and holy, so He doesn’t want to associate with people who are not perfect.
The verses in our Bible Reading today talk about God and His holiness. Verses 1 and 2 say, “The Lord said to Moses, ‘Tell all the Israelites: I am the Lord your God. I am holy, so you must be holy.’” Wow, these are life-changing verses! God says that we can be holy like Him.
But how can we be holy like God if we are sinners? In verses 3 through 5 of our Bible Reading, God continues to talk about things that we can do to come closer to Him. Some of these things are honoring our parents, not stealing, not worshiping idols, and always telling the truth.
God wants you to be holy and have a relationship with Him. Give Him your praise, honor and worship today. —JS*
“The angels were calling to each, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord All-Powerful. His Glory fills the whole earth.’” Isaiah 6:3
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be holy like You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—BH

Hope: When?
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 3:1-18
Saturday, June 8 2013

Hope: When? Yesterday we talked about our hope of eternal life with God. The Bible clearly tells us how we can have the hope of living forever with Him. But the Bible does not tell us the exact date when that hope will be fulfilled. We do not know the day we will die or the day when Jesus will return to take His followers to live with Him.
In our Bible Reading today we learn some things about Jesus’ return. Verse 9 says that God is not being slow in sending Jesus. God is being patient. Why? Because He wants to give everyone the opportunity to follow and obey Him.
These verses also tell us how we should live while we are waiting for Jesus. “Your lives should be holy and devoted to God. You should be looking forward to the day of God, wanting more than anything else for it to come soon” (verses 11b-12a).
Don’t spend your time wondering when Jesus will return. Instead focus on serving Him and looking forward to your hope through Jesus. —BH
“But the day when the Lord comes again will surprise everyone like the coming of a thief.” 2 Peter 3:10a
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I serve You as I wait patiently for Jesus to return. In His name. Amen.

—JK

The Splinter
Bible Reading: 1 John 3:1-10
Thursday, February 21, 2013

The Splinter Recently I was helping my husband with a building project. I carried pieces of wood and stacked them. Later that evening I noticed that I had a spinter of wood in my finger.
The splinter was very small, and I had a hard time getting it out. I thought that I had removed all of the splinter. But a couple of days later, I noticed that my finger was red, and it started to hurt. I found a tiny piece of wood under my skin. That time I made sure I removed all the splinter.
Our Bible Reading reminds us that as Christians, we cannot continue to sin. “You know that Christ came to take away people’s sins. There is no sin in Christ” (verse 5). We need to find the sins in our lives and remove them. If not, these sins will grow and hurt our relationship with God.
Examine your life today. Ask God to forgive your sins and help you live a pure life for Him. —JK
“So whoever lives in Christ does not continue to sin. If they continue to sin, they have never really understood Christ and have never known him.” 1 John 3:6
