Proverbs (10)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 30:5
Friday, November 11, 2016

If a bad storm or an angry dog frightened me when I was young, I would run to my safe place. My safe place was behind a big, red velvet chair in our living room. I would lean against the back of the chair and rub my face on the cloth. Then I would close my eyes and forget about what had frightened me.
I am an adult now. Most of the time, I am happy. But sometimes I become afraid. When I feel afraid, I can't hide behind a big, red velvet chair any more. Instead, I read my Bible and pray. I trust God's words to help me feel safe and secure. Proverbs 30:5 tells us, “You can trust this: Every word that God speaks is true. God is a safe place for those who go to him.”
Maybe you are facing some frightening things in your life today. Maybe you want to feel safe and protected. Trust God to be with you, love you, and keep you safe! —BR

“God, hear my cry for help. Listen to my prayer. You are my place of safety, a strong tower that protects me from my enemies.” Psalm 61:1a, 3a
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, I know that You will surround me with Your love and protection today. Thank You! In Jesus' name. Amen.

Chinese Characters (4)
Bible Reading: Psalm 91:1-16
Saturday, April 11, 2015

Chinese Characters (4) Chinese people have two different words for“peace.” One word means “no war” and the other means “I am safe, even if there is danger outside.” The second word is the one we will focus on today.
The second character in that word for “peace” has two parts. The top part stands for the roof of a home and the part under it stands for a woman. When a man left to go to work, he knew his wife was safe at home. The door of their house was closed and the roof would keep his wife warm and dry. The man felt peace because his wife was safe.
God has not removed all bad things from the world. But He has promised that when we live close to Him, we can have safety and peace. No one in the world can take away this peace. Verse 2 of our Bible Reading calls God our “place of safety.”
We don't need to worry or be afraid. Praise Him today for the way He takes care of you! —KP
“You can go to him [God] for protection. He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies. You can trust him to surround and protect you like a shield.” Psalm 91:4
PRAYER: Lord God, thank You for keeping me safe today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God’s Comfort
Bible Reading: Psalm 46:1-11
Wednesday, October 23, 2013

God’s Comfort I have read that Psalm 46 is a favorite Bible chapter for many Christians. Why do people like this psalm? I think they like this psalm because it is filled with comfort and peace.
Verse 1 tells us that God is our protection and strength. Verse 7 reminds us that God is always with us. And verse 10 encourages us to depend on God instead of ourselves.
The Bible clearly shows us that God is able to take care of His people. The devil is at work, trying to draw us away from God. We face problems in our lives. But we can always depend on God to help us.
Sometimes we become distracted in life, and we fail to depend on God. That’s when we need to remember the many times that God has helped and blessed us. If we truly seek God and His help, He will never leave us alone.
Let’s join the writer of Psalm 46 in praising God today for His comfort and love! —IMJ
“Look at the powerful things the Lord has done. See the awesome things he has done on earth. The Lord All-Powerful is with us. The God of Jacob is our place of safety.” Psalm 46:8,11
PRAYER: God, thank You for encouraging me every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Psalm 46
Bible Reading: Psalm 46:1-11
Saturday, September 7, 2013

Psalm 46 Psalm 46 is a very encouraging psalm. Verse 1 says, “God is our protection and source of strength. He is always ready to help us in times of trouble.”
These verses are encouraging because they remind us to not be afraid. Verses 2 and 3 talk about earthquakes, mountains falling into the sea, seas that are rough and dark and mountains that tremble. How can we not be afraid when these things happen? Because “God is our protection and source of strength.”
These verses are also encouraging because they tell us about the powerful and awesome things God has done. What has God done? He helps us (verse 5b). God stops wars (verse 9a). And He defeats the nations and controls the world (verse 10). How can God do these things? Because He is All-Powerful (verse 7).
No matter what you will face today, you can know that God is your protection and source of strength. Depend on Him! —ECW
“Look at the powerful things the Lord has done. See the awesome things he has done on earth.” Psalm 46:8b
PRAYER: Dear God, I want to completely depend on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Place of Safety
Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 33:26-29
Thursday, August 22, 2013

Place of Safety Maybe you saw a news story on TV. A building was burning and a woman was trapped on the third floor. Thick black smoke poured out of the building as the screaming woman leaned out a window. Down below, the firemen held a large net so the woman could jump and be safe.
The world today is like a burning building. People are trapped in their sins. They don’t know what to do. They don’t know how they can be safe. But verse 27a of our Bible Reading gives these people hope. “God lives forever. He is your place of safety.”
The only way we can truly be safe is to turn to God. We can talk with Him through prayer. We can learn about God by reading the Bible. And He can bless us through our fellowship with other Christians.
God is waiting to be your safe place today. Let Him show you His love, comfort, mercy and peace. —BL
“The Lord saved you. He is like a strong shield protecting you. He is like a powerful sword. Your enemies will be afraid of you, and you will put your foot on their backs!” Deuteronomy 33:29b
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I need You to be my place of safety. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Place of Safety
Bible Reading: Psalm 71:1-24
Friday, November 16, 2012

Place of Safety Every day I pray for my children. They are grown now and don’t live with me. I don’t know specifically what to pray each day for them, but I always ask God to help them, bless them and keep them safe.
Recently I realized that God had answered my prayer of safety for one of my sons. He is an ambulance driver. One morning he was driving a patient to the hospital. All of a sudden, the semi-truck in front of him exploded. My son was able to steer clear of the burning truck and keep himself, his crew member and the patient safe. God answered my prayer that day!
Verse 3a of our Bible Reading says, “Be my fortress, the home I can run to for safety. You are my Rock, my place of safety.” God is strong and powerful like a rock. God always knows what is best for us. He will always pay attention to our prayers.
Pray for your family members and friends today. Ask God to keep them safe. —BH

“Lord, I trust you, so I will never be disappointed. In your goodness, you will save me. You will rescue me.” Psalm 71:1-2a
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for answering my prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—SAH

God Helps Me (2)
Bible Reading: Psalm 18:30-37
Monday, September 10, 2012

God Helps Me (2) Maybe you know the game called “Rock, Paper, Scissors.” The game has different hand shapes for rock, paper and scissors. Two people make one of the three hand shapes at the same time. The goal of the game is to make the hand shape that beats the other one.
Here are the rules for the game: a rock can break scissors so the rock hand shape wins over scissors, and scissors can cut paper so the scissors hand shape wins over paper. But the third rule is hard for me to understand: paper can cover a rock, so the paper hand shape wins over rock. That doesn’t make sense to me. How can paper defeat a rock?
David wrote Psalm 18 when he was running from Saul and his army. In verse 31, David said, “There is no God except the Lord. There is no Rock, except our God.” Here David called God his Rock. God isn’t a rock like in the game. Paper can’t defeat Him. Nothing can defeat God!
God is your Rock, too. You can turn to Him for help, comfort and safety today! —SAH

“Be my fortress, the home I can run to for safety. You are my Rock, my place of safety.” Psalm 71:3a

PRAYER: Lord, I know that I can run to You and You will keep me safe. Thank You for being my Rock. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
