Summer (7)
Bible Reading: 1 John 4:7-10
Thursday, July 21, 2016

some chores to do every day, but I also had time to do things I enjoyed doing.
One thing I liked to do was visit with Emma. She was an elderly widow who lived across the street from our house. Emma was lonely and stayed home most of the time. Often she would sit alone on her porch.
I liked to sew, so I would take my latest sewing project and sit on the porch with Emma. Sometimes I took her cookies my mother had made. Emma and I shared many hours together talking and sewing. Those times with Emma were very special.
I encourage you to take some time today and think about John's words from our Bible Reading — “Dear friends, we should love each other because love comes from God” (verse 7a). Then find someone that you can share God's love with. —CW*

“True love is God's love for us, not our love for God. He sent his Son as the way to take away our sins.” 1 John 4:10
PRAYER: Thank You, Lord, that You love me. Help me show Your love to someone today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—DJH*

A New Command
Bible Reading: John 13:34-35
Tuesday, May 3, 2016

In our Bible Reading, Jesus gave His followers a new command. Jesus told them that they should love each other the same way that He loved them. This can be applied to us today. We should love other Christians. 1 John 3:23 says, “This is what God commands: that we believe in his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love each other as he commanded.”

Why is it important for Christians to love each other? First, God commands Christians to love one another. Second, Jesus said in verse 35, “All people will know that you are my followers if you love each other.” If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, other people will see this and know that we follow Jesus.
How can we show our love to other Christians? 1 John 3:18b tells us that we “should show our love
by the things we do.” We can share each other's burdens, encourage each other and forgive each other.
I want people to know that I follow Jesus. I hope you do, too! —DJH*

“God gave us this command: If we love God, we must also love each other as brothers and sisters.”

1 John 4:21
PRAYER: Dear God, show me how I can love other Christians. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Pilgrim Psalms (10)
Bible Reading: Psalm 132:1-134:3
Saturday, September 19, 2015

Pilgrim Psalms (10) As the pilgrims arrived at Jerusalem, they sang these last three psalms about the temple and Jerusalem.
In Psalm 132, the pilgrims sang about the temple. “Now, let's go to the Lord's house. Let's worship at his throne” (verse 7). Psalm 133 talks about how good it was for God's people to come together to worship. Verse 1 says, “Oh, how wonderful, how pleasing it is when God's people all come together as one!” And Psalm 134 is an encouragement to praise God.
I love to get together with other Christians and worship God. We sing together, pray together and work together — just like the Jewish pilgrims did on their journey.
Look for ways to be with other Christians — Bible studies, worship services, prayer meetings and fellowship dinners. Worship and praise God in every part of your life! —BH
“Praise the Lord, all his servants who serve in the Temple at night. Lift your hands toward the Temple, and praise the Lord. May the Lord, who made heaven and earth, bless you from Zion.” Psalm 134:1-3
PRAYER: Lord, we praise You and thank You for all that You do for us. You are the one we should worship every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Friends
Bible Reading: John 15:12-15
Monday, March 23, 201

Friends Good friends are very important. I have a friend who has been in my life for many years. She is always happy when I call her. We pray for each other and share our joys and troubles.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10a tells us why it is good to have a friend. “Two people are better than one. When two people work together, they get more work done. If one person falls, the other person can reach out to help.”
In our Bible Reading today, Jesus talked about friends. He told His disciples, “The greatest love people can show is to die for their friends” (verse 13). Jesus told His disciples that He was their friend. “But now I call you friends, because I have told you everything that my Father told me” (verse 15b).
Jesus is our friend, too. He was willing to die on the cross and accept the punishment for our sins. That is true friendship! —TS
“I have loved you as the Father has loved me. Now continue in my love. I have obeyed my Father’s commands, and he continues to love me. In the same way, if you obey my commands, I will continue to love you.” John 15:9-10
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for my friend, Jesus. In His name. Amen.

Philemon
Bible Reading: Philemon 1-25
Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Philemon The book of Philemon is very short — it is only 25 verses. It is a letter that Paul wrote to a Christian man named Philemon.
Philemon's servant, Onesimus, had run away. Onesimus went to see Paul. Onesimus became a Christian while he was staying with Paul. He also became Paul's friend and helper.
But now it was time for Onesimus to go home to his master, Philemon. Paul wrote this letter to Philemon to tell him that Onesimus had become a Christian. In verses 17 and 18 of our Bible Reading Paul told Philemon, “If you accept me as your friend, then accept Onesimus back. Welcome him like you would welcome me. If he has done any wrong to you or owes you anything, charge it to me.” Paul wanted Philemon to forgive Onesimus and welcome him home.
This short book teaches us that we should pray for, encourage, forgive and love each other. Ask God to help you do these things today. —GT
“My brother, you have shown love to God's people, and your help has greatly encouraged them. What a joy and encouragement that has been to me.” Philemon 7
PRAYER: Dear God, I love You and want to show You my love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

1 Thessalonians (7)
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
Friday, September 19, 2014

1 Thessalonians (7) In our verses today, Paul wrote more about Jesus’ coming. He wrote that it will be sudden and it will surprise many people. It will surprise people who are living in the world of sin. It will bring sudden destruction to them. But Christians should not be surprised, and they should not be afraid. They should always be ready for Jesus to come.
Paul told the Thessalonians to be “awake and have self-control” (verse 6b). He told them to wear faith and love as their protection. And Paul reminded them that Jesus died so we can all live together with Him forever. It makes no difference if we are dead or alive when Jesus comes — we will go to be with Him.
Paul’s words give us comfort. Every day we can know that Jesus will come again. If we have faith in God and love one another, we will live in a way that pleases God. We can have a life of hope as we wait for Jesus to come. —KR
“Jesus died for us so that we can live together with him...So encourage each other and help each other grow stronger in faith, just as you are now doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:10-11
PRAYER: Father, thank You for Jesus Who died for my sins. In His name. Amen.

1 Thessalonians (5)
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-12
Wednesday, September 17, 2014

1 Thessalonians (5) Many people in our world today want to live in a fancy home or make lots of money. But our Bible verses today tell us about living a life that pleases God. These verses don’t talk about what kind of house we have or what kind of job we do. Paul talks about what kind of a person we are.
The first thing God wants for us is to be holy — “to stay away from sexual sins” (verse 3b). We should honor God with our bodies. He “does not want us to live in sin” (verse 7b). God also wants us to love each other. Paul said that the believers were already doing that, but they needed to do it more and more. We can never love too much!
The third thing that pleases God is to live a peaceful life. Paul told the believers in Thessalonica, “Mind your own business, and earn your own living” (verse 11a). If we do these things, non-believers will respect us.
Are you living a life that pleases God? I encourage you to “live that way more and more” (verse 1b). —KR
“We encourage you now, brothers and sisters, to show your love more and more.” 1 Thessalonians 4:10b
PRAYER: Father, I want to live a life that pleases You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
