Jesus' Life (2)
Bible Reading: Luke 2:4-20
Friday, October 14, 2016

The prophet Micah wrote, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, are the smallest town in Judah...but the ‘Ruler of Israel' will come from you to rule for me” (Micah 5:2). This verse tells us that God's Son would be born in Bethlehem. And our Bible Reading from Luke today says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
We know where Jesus was born, but we do not know the exact date. Bible scholars have debated for many years about when Jesus was born. Many people have chosen to celebrate Jesus' birth on December 25th.
But we can celebrate Jesus' birth every day of the year! We should remember that without Jesus, we are lost and have no hope. Jesus came to earth to be the Savior of the world!
Take some time today to celebrate Jesus! Thank God for sending Jesus to accept the punishment for your sins. Share your thanks and joy with other people. —RF*

“Always be filled with joy in the Lord. I will say it again. Be filled with joy.” Philippians 4:4
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to bring us the hope of salvation. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Praise for the Child
Bible Reading: Luke 1:39-56
Wednesday, December 9, 2015

Praise for the Child
When a couple learns that they will have a baby, they begin to prepare for the baby to be born. They get the baby's bed and room ready. The parents look at lists of baby names to decide which name will be right for their child. People give them diapers and baby clothing. Everyone prays that the child will be born safely.
God's angel came to Mary and told her that she would give birth to God's Son. Our Bible verses today tell us that Mary went to visit her cousin, Elizabeth, for three months. Elizabeth was pregnant, too. I can imagine that Mary and Elizabeth talked a lot about preparations for their babies. Our verses also tell us that Mary praised God that He had chosen her to be the mother of the Messiah.
During this Christmas season, we should stop and praise God for sending His Son to earth. And we should thank Him for all the blessings He has brought into our lives throughout the year. —BH
“Then Mary said, ‘I praise the lord with all my heart. I am very happy because God is my Savior.'” Luke 1:46-47
PRAYER: Father, I praise You for the many ways You bless me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A Leader for God
Bible Reading: Judges 6:11-16
Wednesday, June 10, 2015

A Leader for God Our Bible verses today tell us that God sent an angel to speak to Gideon. The angel told Gideon that God wanted him to lead the Israelites against the Midianite army. But Gideon was afraid to become a leader. He could not believe that God had chosen him to lead the Israelites.
But God told Gideon, “I will be with you, so you can defeat the Midianites as easily as if they were only one man” (verse 16). God did not choose Gideon because he was strong and brave. God chose him because He wanted the Israelites to see that only God's power could save them from the Midianite army.
Maybe God wants you to be a leader for Him — to teach a Sunday School class or Bible study or to go on a mission trip. But you are afraid. Remember that God was with Gideon, and He will be with you, too.
Stay faithful to God today. He will help you and guide you as you serve Him. —MS
“The Lord turned toward Gideon and said, ‘Then use your great power and go save the Israelites from the Midianites. I am sending you to save them.'” Judges 6:14
PRAYER: Lord, I know that You are with me, just like You were with Gideon. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Thankfulness (3)
Bible Reading: Luke 1:46-55
Thursday, March 26, 2015

Thankfulness (3) Our Bible verses today are Mary’s praises after she learned that she would be the mother of God’s Son. We do not know if she spoke these words or sang them to God, but they are an important example for us.
God chose Mary to be the mother of His Son. And He chose many other people through the years to do His work. In 1 Thessalonians 1:4b Paul told the Christians in Thessalonica, “God loves you. And we know that he has chosen you to be his people.”
God has chosen us to be His children, and He has given us the important job of telling other people about Jesus. When I think about that, I want to join Mary in saying, “Yes, the Powerful One has done great things for me. His name is very holy” (verse 49).
You can praise God today by being thankful that He forgives your sins and wants you to live with Him forever. —DF
“But you are his chosen people...He chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He brought you out of the darkness of sin into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
PRAYER: Thank You, God, for choosing me and saving me. I love You so much! In Jesus’ name. Amen.

-IMJ

God’s People
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-10
Sunday, January 18, 2015

God’s People The Old Testament tells us about God’s special people, the Jews. God took care of the Jews like a loving father takes care of his children. In Deuteronomy 14:2b Moses said, “You belong to the Lord your God. From all the people in the world, the Lord chose you to be his own special people.”
Then a wonderful thing happened! God sent His Son, Jesus, to die for the sins of all people. Soon after Jesus died and arose, God offered His plan of salvation to all people in the world — both Jews and non-Jews.
This means that you and I can be God’s special people, too. In our Bible Reading today, Peter said (verse 9b), “You are a holy nation, people who belong to God. He chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done. He brought you out of the darkness of sin into his wonderful light.”
God offers us His love, mercy and forgiveness. Take time today to thank Him for choosing you to be one of His special people. —IMJ

PRAYER: God, thank You for choosing me to be one of Your special people. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Chose You
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:1-10
Saturday, November 29, 2014

God Chose You I have several friends who are missionaries, ministers or some kind of specialized Christian workers. I have always thought that they were the only people who could show others how to become Christians.
But then I read the verses in our Bible Reading for today. Verse 9b says, “He chose you to tell about the wonderful things he has done.” God has chosen each one of us to tell other people how He has changed our lives. We don’t need to make a formal speech. We can just sit down with someone and tell them how Jesus has touched our lives.
And when we tell someone how God has changed us, we should also remember to thank God and praise Him. Why? Because God has bought us “out of the darkness of sin and into his wonderful light” (verse 9b).
Tell someone today what God has done for you. And don’t forget to thank God for His wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus. —BH
“But you are his chosen people, the King’s priests. You are a holy nation, people who belong to God. In the past you were not a special people, but now you are God’s people.”1 Peter 2:9a,10a
PRAYER: Father, thank You for saving me. I look forward to telling others about You. In Jesus’ name.

-DF*

Jesus Chooses 12
Bible Reading: Luke 6:12-16
Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Jesus Chooses 12 Many people followed Jesus. Our Bible Reading tells us that Jesus prayed to God all night. Then Jesus chose twelve men to be His special helpers. These helpers are sometimes called apostles. These men worked with Jesus for three years. They learned from His teaching and watched Jesus do many miracles. Then these twelve men helped establish God’s church on earth.
Who were these apostles? They were ordinary men. Most of them came from the lower class and were uneducated. These men were not perfect — each man had weaknesses. But Jesus chose these men to be the foundation of the church.
For the next twelve days we will read about these apostles. We will learn what they did when they were with Jesus. But most important, we will see that they dedicated their lives to telling people about Jesus.
Jesus’ apostles were willing to give up their lives for God. Praise God for these ordinary men who loved God so much! —DF

-JK

Hope That Has No End
Bible Reading: 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17
Wednesday, June 26 2013

Hope That Has No End Can you remember a time when you were doing something and you didn’t want it to end? Maybe it was a special family meal or a vacation or a trip to an amusement park. You were sad that it had to end.
In our Bible verses today, Paul talks about being chosen for salvation through Jesus. Paul does not mean that some people are chosen to be Christians and others are not chosen. Paul is saying that God chooses all people to accept His free gift of salvation.
When we receive salvation, we also receive God’s love, grace, hope and comfort. And Paul says that these things have no end. Isn’t that wonderful? God’s love, grace, hope and comfort will be with us forever!
Probably some things will go wrong for you today. You may make a mistake or someone may make fun of you or you may face a problem. All of those things will someday come to an end. But remember that the things God gives us will continue forever. —JK
