Psalm 119 (13)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:97-104
Saturday, November 19, 2016

The New Testament teaches us that we should never stop praying to God (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We can pray to God anywhere at any time. But I wonder if we are constantly studying God's Word.
In verses 97-98a of our Bible Reading for today, the writer says, “Oh, how I love your teachings! I talk about them all the time. Your commands are always with me.” These verses indicate that we should be reading and studying the Bible all the time.
Do you love to read God's Word? Some people do not like to read the Bible because it shows them the wrong things they do. And some people do not want to follow God and live differently than the world.
The Bible is our help and our guide. God wants us to follow His teachings every day, not just part of the time. When we study God's Word, we can remember Bible verses and keep them with us constantly. —BH

“Great blessings belong to those who don't listen to evil advice...Instead, they love the Lord's teachings and think about them day and night.” Psalm 1:1-2

Psalm 119 (3)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:17-24
Monday, September 19, 2016

This section of Psalm 119 talks about studying God’s Word. Verse 18 is a prayer that we can pray every time we study the Bible. “Open my eyes so that I can see all the wonderful things in your teachings.”
If we want to understand God's teachings, we should read the Bible every day. The writer of these verses shares his feelings about studying God's Word. “I need to know your commands” (verse 19b). “I continue to study your laws” (verse 23b). “Your rules make me happy. They give me good advice” (verse 24). God's teachings show us how to follow Him and how to live with other people. We should be excited to read the Bible (verse 20) and to serve God by obeying it (verse 22).
Are you excited to learn from God’s Word? Are you willing to study and obey God's teachings? Think about these things as you read the Bible today. —BH

“I pray that God will open your minds to see his truth. Then you will know the hope that he has chosen us to have. You will know that the blessings God has promised his holy people are rich and glorious.” Ephesians 1:18
PRAYER: Lord, I love Your teachings. I want to study them and obey them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—BH

It is important that we study God's Word, the Bible. When we study God's Word, we can learn how to obey Him. Verse 11 of our Bible Reading says, “I study your teachings very carefully so that I will not sin against you.”

-IMJ

Be Faithful
Bible Reading: Matthew 24:23-42
Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Be Faithful In our Bible verses today, Jesus told His followers some things that would happen in the future. Jesus warned them that there would be false messiahs and false prophets (verse 24a).
Jesus told His followers that they should not believe these false teachers. Instead, He said they should continue to be faithful to God and the truth of His Word. Today we can read and study God's Word. Then we can know when people are teaching things that are false.
How can we be faithful to God? In verse 42 Jesus said, “So always be ready. You don't know the day your Lord will come.” We should be ready for Jesus to come and take us to live with Him forever. We can be ready if we read the Bible and do what God wants us to do.
Be careful today. Make sure that you only pay attention to people who are truly following God and His Word. —IMJ
“False messiahs and false prophets will come and do great miracles and wonders, trying to fool the people God has chosen, if that is possible.” Matthew 24:24
PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You for Your Word, the Bible. I want to be faithful to You today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—DVH*

Training
Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 4:6-16
Thursday, October 16, 2014

Training Many things we do in life require training. Our parents train us to walk and learn other skills when we are young. As adults we receive training in college or on the job.
When talking about training, many people think about the physical training of athletes. In our Bible verses today, Paul says in verse 8, “Training your body helps you in some ways. But devotion to God helps you in every way. It brings you blessings in this life and in the future, too.”
As Christians, we need to train ourselves in righteousness. This requires hard work and commitment. We can train ourselves through our Bible study, prayers, fellowship and worship. As we keep doing these things, we will become stronger Christians.
Work hard at training yourself today. Show others how to live for God. “Show them by what you say, by the way you live, by your love, by your faith, and by your pure life” (verse 12b). —DVH*
“Be careful in your life and in your teaching. Continue to live and teach rightly.” 1 Timothy 4:16a
PRAYER: God, I want to be a good example for other people. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Cities in Acts (5)
Bible Reading: Acts 17:10-13
Saturday, May 31, 2014

Cities in Acts (5) Today our Bible Reading tells us about Paul and Silas again. This time they traveled to the city of Berea. Berea was also in the area of Macedonia.
Verse 11 tells us three things about the people in Berea. They were “open-minded” and “glad to hear the message Paul told them.” They also “studied the Scriptures every day to make sure that what they heard was really true.” What was the result? “...many of them believed, including many important Greek women and men” (verse 12).
These people in Berea are a good example for us. We should always be open-minded and happy to study the Bible. And whenever someone teaches us, we should make sure that what they are teaching really agrees with the Bible.
I hope you will be like the Bereans today. Study God’s Word and obey it! —JK
“What joy your commands give me! How I love them! Not only do I love your commands, but I also honor them. I will study your laws.” Psalm 119:47-48
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word, the Bible. Help me to learn from it and then share Your message with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
