Jesus' Life (9)
Bible Reading: Luke 24:36-49
Friday, October 21, 2016

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to two men as they were walking on a road. Later these two men told more of Jesus' followers that He was alive.
These followers were together and “Jesus himself came and stood among them. He said to them, ‘Peace be with you’” (verse 36b). Jesus' followers were afraid and thought He was a ghost. Jesus told the followers to not be afraid and to touch Him. “You can see that I have a living body; a ghost does not have a body like this” (verse 39b). Then Jesus' followers believed that He had risen from the dead.
In John 20:29, Jesus told His followers, “You believe because you see me. Great blessings belong to the people who believe without seeing me!” Jesus was talking about you and me. We cannot see Him today, but we can read about Him in the Bible. And we can know for sure that Jesus rose from the dead.
Because Jesus rose from the dead, we have the hope of living forever with Him! —BC*

“The followers were amazed and very, very happy to see that Jesus was alive.” Luke 24:41a
PRAYER: Father, I believe that Jesus died and rose again. Thank You for the promise of eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—MC*

Death and Resurrection
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Saturday, March 5, 2016

Before I became a Christian, I did not understand about death. When I was an eight-year-old boy in Chile, I visited my grandfather on a farm. I saw some goats and llamas in the distance. As I started walking toward the animals, I saw a huge trench. I looked in the trench and saw bones and caskets. I was very scared, and I ran away quickly.
In our Bible Reading today, Paul taught about death and resurrection. He wanted to encourage the Christians in Thessalonica. Paul explained that “God will raise to life through Jesus any who have died and bring them together with him when he comes” (verse 14b).
I am a Christian. I don't need to be scared about death like I was when I was eight years old. I know that Jesus died for me. He rose from death, and I, too, will be raised someday and live forever with Him.
You can be encouraged to know that God loves you and wants you to accept His gift of salvation and eternal life. —MC*

— JK

Missionaries (7)
Bible Reading: Acts 20:7-12
Monday, February 29, 2016

Many wonderful things happened while Paul was a missionary. Our Bible Reading today tells us about the time he was in the city of Troas. Paul preached to a group of people. These people met together to share the Lord's Supper.
Verse 9 tells us what happened. “There was a young man named Eutychus sitting in the window. Paul continued talking, and Eutychus became very, very sleepy. Finally, he went to sleep and fell out of the window. He fell to the ground from the third floor. When the people went down and lifted him up, he was dead.” That was a terrible thing that happened! But the next verse tells us that Paul raised Eutychus from the dead. The people must have been happy and amazed.

God gave Paul the ability to do wonderful miracles. These miracles helped people believe the message Paul preached. Today we can read about these miracles in the Bible. This helps us believe that God is powerful. —JK

—JK

Bible Reading: Luke 24:1-12
Friday, November 20, 2015

You may know the expression, “It’s just too good to be true!” People often say that when something wonderful has happened, but they just can’t believe that it really happened.

When Jesus’ followers heard that He was risen from the dead, I think they might have said, “It’s just too good to be true!” Jesus had been telling His disciples for a long time that He would die and rise again, but when the women told them about the resurrection, they didn’t believe it. They thought that the news was “nonsense” (verse 11). But soon, the disciples saw Jesus and believed. That must have been a wonderful day of celebration!

It has been almost 2,000 years since Jesus lived on earth. We cannot see Jesus today. We cannot touch the nail prints in His hands. But we do have the Bible and the eyewitness testimony of people who were with Him. We can know that the Bible is true and that Jesus really rose from the dead. Take time to celebrate this wonderful miracle today! —JK

—JK

Jesus (7)
Bible Reading: Matthew 27:57-66
Thursday, November 19, 2015

I used to live in upstate New York where the soil is very rocky. We had to work hard to clear land for a garden. Often we would see a small stone on the surface of the ground. When we tried to remove it, we would discover that it really was a huge stone. Most of the stone was buried under the dirt.

A large stone covered the entrance to the tomb where Jesus was buried. It was so large that it couldn’t be lifted — it had to be rolled in front of the opening. Pilate ordered guards to stay at the tomb. He knew that people had said Jesus would rise again. Pilate wanted to make sure that no one could come and steal Jesus’ body.

But nothing could keep Jesus in the tomb! Not a huge stone! Not even Pilate’s guards! It was God’s plan for Jesus to rise from the dead. This showed the world that Jesus had power over death. Only the Son of God could give up His life and then rise from the dead.
Thank God today for Jesus and His power over death! —JK

-JK

Sea of Galilee (5)
Bible Reading: John 21:1-14
Saturday, September 26, 2015

Sea of Galilee (5) Today we read more about Peter and the other disciples. Jesus had died and risen from the dead. Jesus was by the Sea of Galilee. Several of Jesus’ followers were in a boat. They had fished all night but had not caught any fish.
Jesus said to them (verse 6b), “Throw your net into the water on the right side of your boat. You will find some fish there.” Jesus’ followers obeyed Him. They caught so many fish that they couldn’t pull the net into the boat!
Verse 14 says, “This was now the third time Jesus appeared to his followers after he was raised from death.” Jesus wanted His followers to know for sure that He had risen from the dead. Why? Because Jesus wanted them to know that He has power over death. That means Christians will also live again after they die.
Do you want to live forever? I do! But I don’t want to live forever in a world full of sin. I want to live forever with God and Jesus. That will be wonderful! —JK

-HLN

Bible Mysteries (4)
Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:51-57
Wednesday, April 22, 2015

Bible Mysteries (4) In our Bible Reading today, Paul shows us a mystery about our bodies and what will happen to them after we die. Before Jesus died, was buried and rose again, people did not know what would happen to their bodies when they died. Because of Paul’s words, we can understand more about this mystery.
Our Bible verses tell us that the bodies of Christian people will be raised and changed. When will this happen? “When the last trumpet blows” (verse 52b). Both Christians who are alive and Christians who have died will experience this change.
This change will be a marvelous miracle! Think about all the Christians who have died. Their bodies have become the dust of the earth. But God knows each person, and He will give us a new spiritual body “which never dies” (verse 54b).
I encourage you to read all of 1 Corinthians, chapter 15. Then thank God for this wonderful mystery! —HLN

Resurrection Day
Bible Reading: Matthew 28:1-10
Sunday, April 5, 2015

Resurrection Day On Friday we talked about God leaving Jesus alone. That was bad news! But the good news is that God did not stay separated from Jesus. God took the sins that Jesus accepted and erased them forever. Then God and Jesus were together again.
Today is Resurrection Day — the day when we especially remember that Jesus died on the cross and rose again on the third day. That was the completion of God’s plan. Because Jesus died, we can have our sins forgiven. And, because Jesus rose again, we can have the hope of eternal life with God in heaven.
I hope that you will take time today to be happy! Our Bible Reading says in verse 8 that the women who left Jesus’ tomb “were afraid, but they were also very happy.” How can you be happy? Think about what Jesus did for you. Think about what it will be like to live with Him forever.
If you are happy that Jesus died and rose again, I am sure you will want to share that Good News with someone today! —JK

—KR

Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Thursday, September 18, 2014

1 Thessalonians (6) The believers in Thessalonica were worried about why Jesus didn’t come. They were afraid that the people who had died would miss something. In our Bible Reading, Paul told the people not to worry. “So we believe that God will raise to life through Jesus any who have died and bring them together with him when he comes” (verse 14b).
Then Paul talked a little bit about what will happen. Jesus will come down from heaven. There will be a loud command and a trumpet call. “And the people who have died and were in Christ will rise first” (verse 16b). The Christians who are still alive on earth will be taken up to meet Jesus in the air, too.
Because we believe and follow Jesus, we have hope. We know that just as Jesus was raised from the dead, we will be raised from the dead. We don’t have to be sad when a Christian dies. We don’t have to worry about our own death. We can trust God to take care of us. —KR

Peter (2) One day Peter and John were on their way to the temple. They saw a man there who had been crippled all his life. The man begged Peter and John for money.
Peter and John could have ignored the man. What did they do? Did they stop and give the man some money? Peter and John did stop and help the man. But they didn’t give him money. Instead, they gave the man something even better than money! With the power of Jesus, Peter lifted the man up and immediately the man’s feet and legs became strong. He began walking and jumping and praising God!

Resurrection Day Today is Resurrection Day. This is the day we remember that Jesus rose from the dead. Some people call this day Easter.
Recently I was paying for my groceries. An older couple behind me put toys and candy on the counter. They said those things were for their grandchildren for Easter. The man said, “That’s what Easter is all about.”
It is sad that for many people around the world, today is just a time to have a family dinner and hunt for Easter eggs. The true meaning of Easter is found in our Bible verses today. Jesus died on the cross for our sins. And then He arose and gave us the promise of eternal life with Him.
How will you celebrate today? Will you give thanks for Jesus’ resurrection and share this Good News with other people? —NM

But the most amazing thing is yet to come. Some day Jesus will come back and take His followers to live with Him forever. Those Christians who have died will be resurrected. All Christians will have a new life and never die again.
In our Bible Reading today, Jesus was talking to a large group of people. He called Himself the “bread that gives life” (verse 35b). Then Jesus said that it was God’s will that He come to earth. Finally, Jesus said, “Everyone who sees the Son and believes in him has eternal life. I will raise them up on the last day. This is what my Father wants” (verse 40).
God wants every person in the world to follow and obey Him. He wants all people to have the opportunity to be part of the resurrection. Praise God today for His promise of eternal life. —SH*
