—CPE*

Prophecies (4)
Bible Reading: Matthew 2:14-15
Monday, November 30, 2015

Prophecies (4) Hosea is another prophet God used to tell people something that would happen in the future. Hosea shared these words from God in Hosea 11:1: “The Lord said, ‘I loved Israel when he was a child, and I called my son out of Egypt.’”
About 700 years later, that prophecy was fulfilled. Our Bible verses today tell us, “So Joseph got ready and left for Egypt with the child and the mother. They left during the night. Joseph stayed in Egypt until Herod died. This gave full meaning to what the Lord said through the prophet: ‘I called my son to come out of Egypt.’”
God knew ahead of time that Joseph, Mary and Jesus would have to leave Israel and go to Egypt so Herod would not kill Jesus. Then, Joseph, Mary and Jesus went back to Israel and lived in Nazareth.

-CPE*

Prophecies (3)
Bible Reading: Matthew 2:16-18
Sunday, November 29, 2015

Prophecies (3) The prophet Jeremiah lived about 470 years before Jesus. One of God’s prophecies through Jeremiah is written in Jeremiah 31:15: “This is what the Lord says: ‘A sound is heard in Ramah — bitter crying and great sadness. Rachel cries for her children, and she refuses to be comforted, because her children are gone.’”
Our Bible Reading tells us that King Herod was very angry. He gave an order to kill all baby boys two years old and younger in and around Bethlehem. Why? Because King Herod wanted to kill baby Jesus. Many baby boys were killed. But God protected Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.
God knows what will happen long before it happens. This proves that our God is real and all-knowing. We can believe and trust whatever God says will happen.

Prophecies (2)
Bible Reading: Matthew 2:1
Saturday, November 28, 2015

Prophecies (2) God used the prophet Micah to make a prophecy telling people EXACTLY where Jesus would be born. And this prophecy was told at least 600 years before Jesus was born. Micah said in Micah 5:2, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, are the smallest town in Judah. Your family is almost too small to count, but the ‘Ruler of Israel’ will come from you to rule for me. His beginnings are from ancient times, from long, long ago.” Then in Matthew 2:1, we read that this prophecy came true. Jesus was born in the exact town where Micah said he would be born — Bethlehem.
God is amazing! There are so many cities in world — too many to count. Bethlehem was a small town. It was not like Chicago or New York City. God knew the exact town where His Son, Jesus, would be born long before it happened.
Only the one true God could know what would happen, tell people before it would happen and make it truly happen. Praise God! —CPE*

Prophecies (1)
Bible Reading: Matthew 1:22-23
Friday, November 27, 2015

Prophecies (1) God used the prophet Isaiah to tell people a prophecy about the birth of Jesus. This prophecy is recorded in Isaiah 7:14: “But the Lord will still show you this sign: The young woman is pregnant and will give birth to a son. She will name him Immanuel.” This prophecy was made at least 700 years before Jesus was born!
In the New Testament, Matthew wanted people to know that what God had said would happen truly happened. Matthew said in our Bible Reading, “All this happened to make clear the full meaning of what the Lord said through the prophet” (verse 22).
If I tried to predict what would happen 700 years from now, I would probably be wrong. I don’t know what is going to happen. But God knows everything. He knows exactly what will happen in the future.
During this Christmas season, take time to praise God. Thank Him for fulfilling His promise to send His Son, Jesus, to be “God with us.”

—SC*

Giving Thanks
Bible Reading: Psalm 100:1-5
Thursday, November 26, 2015

Giving Thanks Today is Thanksgiving Day in America. Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for things in our lives. But we need to be thankful every day, not just on Thanksgiving Day.
Our Bible Reading today is a song of thanksgiving. Verse 4 says, “Come through the gates to his Temple giving thanks to him. Enter his courtyards with songs of praise. Honor him and bless his name.” When we give thanks to God, we should also praise Him and honor Him.
I am thankful for many things. I am thankful for salvation through Jesus Christ. When I sin, He is ready to forgive me. I am also thankful for my husband and my family. I give thanks, too, for my brothers and sisters in Christ.
I am sure that you have many things to be thankful for today. Enjoy your time with your family and friends. But also take time to think about the things you are thankful for and give God your honor and praise. —SC*

—CW*

Praise God (4)
Bible Reading: Genesis 1:1-31
Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Praise God (4) Each day we see things around us that God has made. Our Bible verses tell us about God making the world for us. God made people, too. God made you and me. That makes us special!
Often in the summer, people go on vacations. Sometimes they travel to new places. These people see many different things God has made: mountains, forests, oceans, lakes and deserts.
But we do not need to travel to see what God has made. We can look at the clouds, the sun, the moon and the stars. We see these things every day. We can also see flowers and trees that God has made. And God makes different kinds of weather that show us His power — rain, tornadoes, hurricanes, snow, sunshine.
As you think about this season of giving thanks to God, be sure to take time to look around you. Notice the wonderful things that God has made. Then praise and thank Him for what He has done! —CW*

—CW*

Praise God (3)
Bible Reading: Psalm 117:1-2
Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Our Bible Reading today is another reminder that we need to praise God. I believe one reason for praising God is His wonderful love for us. In the Bible we read about the many ways God shows us His love.

1 John 3:1a tells us about God’s love. “The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God.” You and I are God’s children! Another way God shows us His love is by paying attention to our prayers. Psalm 17:6 says, “Every time I call to you, God, you answer me. So listen to me now, and hear what I say.

God truly showed how much He loves us by sending His Son, Jesus, to die for us. God knew that all people needed a way to be forgiven of their sins. So He sent Jesus to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. That is so wonderful that I almost don’t believe it!

Praise God for His wonderful love today. Thank Him for showing His love by sending Jesus. —CW*

—CW*

Praise God (2)
Bible Reading: Psalm 68:19-35
Monday, November 23, 2015

Lots of people I know have problems. These people worry a lot about their troubles. They try to solve their problems by themselves.

Sometimes life here on earth is difficult. If we do not give God our problems, we can become very worried and upset. In 1 Peter 5:7 we read, “Give all your worries to him, because he cares for you.” This means that we should give our troubles to God. He is all-powerful. God can help us with any problem.

Maybe you are facing serious problems today. Perhaps you are sick or someone you loved has died. Maybe you lost your job and have financial troubles. Or maybe your best friend moved away or you are going through a divorce.

Our Bible verses today remind us to always praise God. Be sure to talk to Him about your problems today. Then praise Him for His great wisdom and love. —CW*

CW*

Praise God (1)
Bible Reading: Luke 4:1-13
Sunday, November 22, 2015

Soon in the United States, we will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. So I thought it would be good to talk about praising God. When I looked up the word “praise” in the dictionary, I found several meanings. One meaning I found was “worship.”

Our Bible Reading today tells us about when the devil tried three times to get Jesus to sin. The devil wanted Jesus to bow down and worship him. In verse 8b Jesus told the devil, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God. Serve only him.’” Jesus knew that He should only worship the one true God. Only God is worthy of our praise and worship.

Jesus also knew that God had commanded people to worship only Him. In Exodus 20:3 God said, “You must not worship any other gods except me.” If we want to obey God, we should only worship Him.

It is easy for us to worship God. Why? Because He is so awesome and wonderful. When we think about all God has done for us, we are full of joy and praise. —CW*

—JK

When I was 10 years old, I went to Christian summer camp for the first time. It was a great week of camp except for one thing — I was so homesick for my family. When they arrived on Friday to pick me up, I remember running to the car and hugging my mom and dad. I had missed them so much!

After Jesus’ resurrection, He was on earth for only a short time before He returned to heaven. But before He left, He promised that He would come back again someday. In our Bible Reading, the angels told the disciples that Jesus would come back to earth in the same way they saw Him leave.

I am very excited to see Jesus! It will be so good to talk with Him face to face and thank Him for all He has done for me. I hope you are excited, too. But until Jesus returns, we need to continue to serve Him faithfully. Make today a day of service for Jesus! —JK

—JK

You may know the expression, “It’s just too good to be true!” People often say that when something wonderful has happened, but they just can’t believe that it really happened.

When Jesus’ followers heard that He was risen from the dead, I think they might have said, “It’s just too good to be true!” Jesus had been telling His disciples for a long time that He would die and rise again, but when the women told them about the resurrection, they didn’t believe it. They thought that the news was “nonsense” (verse 11). But soon, the disciples saw Jesus and believed. That must have been a wonderful day of celebration!

It has been almost 2,000 years since Jesus lived on earth. We cannot see Jesus today. We cannot touch the nail prints in His hands. But we do have the Bible and the eyewitness testimony of people who were with Him. We can know that the Bible is true and that Jesus really rose from the dead. Take time to celebrate this wonderful miracle today! —JK

Jesus (7)
Bible Reading: Matthew 27:57-66
Thursday, November 19, 2015

I used to live in upstate New York where the soil is very rocky. We had to work hard to clear land for a garden. Often we would see a small stone on the surface of the ground. When we tried to remove it, we would discover that it really was a huge stone. Most of the stone was buried under the dirt.

A large stone covered the entrance to the tomb where Jesus was buried. It was so large that it couldn’t be lifted — it had to be rolled in front of the opening. Pilate ordered guards to stay at the tomb. He knew that people had said Jesus would rise again. Pilate wanted to make sure that no one could come and steal Jesus’ body.

But nothing could keep Jesus in the tomb! Not a huge stone! Not even Pilate’s guards! It was God’s plan for Jesus to rise from the dead. This showed the world that Jesus had power over death. Only the Son of God could give up His life and then rise from the dead.
Thank God today for Jesus and His power over death! —JK
I know you are looking for Jesus, the one who was killed on the cross. But he is not here. He has risen from death, as he said he would.” Matthew 28:5b-6a
PRAYER: God, thank You for Jesus’ resurrection. In His name. Amen.

Bible Reading: Matthew 27:32-44

I remember a Christmas gift exchange when I was in the third grade. One boy received a pair of mittens as his gift. The rest of the class got toys, games or books. Some of the children started making fun of the boy and his mittens. They teased him and called him names. Finally, he started crying and ran out of the classroom!

Have you ever felt ashamed or embarrassed like that little boy? Today’s Bible verses tell us about a time when people made fun of Jesus. The soldiers made a crown of thorns for His head. They teased Jesus and spit on Him. Finally, they killed Him!

Jesus suffered more than any embarrassment we might face here on earth. He did that for us. Why? Because He loves us so much! Jesus was willing to endure pain so that we can have our sins forgiven. He died so that we can live forever with Him.

Praise God that Jesus was willing to be our sacrifice. —JK
