Important to God
Bible Reading: Psalm 8:1-9
Tuesday, September 6, 2016

Many people today think that people who are old or weak or sick are not important. But in our Bible verses today, we are reminded that God thinks all people are important.
God sent Jesus to the earth to show us that we are important to Him. 1 Peter 3:18a tells us, “Christ himself suffered when he died for you, and with that one death he paid for your sins. He was not guilty, but he died for people who are guilty. He did this to bring all of you to God.” It doesn't matter how strong you are, what color your skin is or how smart you are. God thinks you are important, and He sent Jesus to die for you!
When you see other people today, don't judge them by the way they look or how much money they have or the kind of clothes they wear. Instead, remember that God loves them and gave His Son to die so they can have their sins forgiven and live with Him forever. —BL

“Why do you care so much for humans? Why do you even notice them? But you made them almost like gods and crowned them with glory and honor.” Psalm 8:4b-5
PRAYER: God, please forgive me when I judge people in the wrong way. Thank You for loving everyone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Jesus (1)
Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 1:15-17
Friday, November 13, 2015

In a few weeks, Christians around the world will celebrate Jesus’ birth. Today and for the next few days we will talk about Jesus and His special purpose for coming to earth.

Some people only think about Jesus as a baby born in Bethlehem. They do not think about Jesus’ ministry, His death or His resurrection. Verse 15a of our Bible Reading tells us the reason Jesus came to earth. “Here is a true statement that should be accepted without question: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Jesus’ special purpose in coming to earth was to die for our sins. Without His death and resurrection, Jesus’ life on earth would be meaningless. God sent Jesus to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Tomorrow we will begin talking about Jesus’ death and what it means to us. I hope you will think about these things as you celebrate Christmas. Praise God today for sending Jesus to die! —JK
God sent his Son into the world. He did not send him to judge the world guilty, but to save the world through him.” John 3:17
PRAYER: God, thank You for Your wonderful plan of salvation through Jesus. In His name. Amen.

Continue in Love
Bible Reading: John 15:9-15
Sunday, June 14, 2015

Continue in Love When I was young, my aunt told me how my cousin Aaron died. Aaron was in the Navy doing a drill that he had done many times before. Something went wrong and his helicopter went down into the water.
My cousin was able to get two men out of the submerged helicopter. Then he realized that the pilot was stuck and could not get out. Aaron saved the pilot, but in the process, he was not able to save himself.
In our Bible verses today, Jesus said, “I have loved you as the Father has loved me. Now continue in my love” (verse 9). I believe that my cousin loved like Jesus did. He was willing to give up his life to save others.
When we follow Jesus’ commands, we have His love and joy in our lives. I pray that you will have the courage to show His love to others today. —IE
“This is what I command you: Love each other as I have loved you. The greatest love people can show is to die for their friends. You are my friends if you do what I tell you to do.” John 15:12-13
PRAYER: God, thank You for Jesus’ example of love. I want to show His love to other people. In His name. Amen.

—JR*

Esther (2)
Bible Reading: Esther 3:7-4:17
Sunday, June 7, 2015

Esther (2) Yesterday we talked about Haman. Haman told the king that God’s people, the Jews, were not obeying the king’s laws. So Haman wanted to kill all the Jews.
Queen Esther was a Jew. She did not want Haman to kill the Jews. Mordecai told Esther that she was the person who could save the Jews. But Esther was afraid to tell the king about Haman’s plan. If the king became upset, he could kill her. Queen Esther was willing to die so that the Jews would be saved.
Many years later there was a man who was willing to give up His life to save others. That man was Jesus. God sent Him to earth to die so that all people could have our sins forgiven.
Jesus accepted the punishment for our sins. He died so that we can be forgiven and live forever with Him. Thank God for Jesus and praise Him for His wonderful plan of salvation. —JR*

Chinese Characters (6)
Bible Reading: John 15:9-17
Monday, April 13, 2015

Chinese Characters (6) Jesus was an amazing teacher. He showed us truth based on His own life. In today's Bible verses, we see that Jesus shared a new way to understand His love. Jesus told His disciples about this true kind of love. The next day He showed them this kind of love by dying on the cross.
The traditional Chinese character for this special kind of love is a very beautiful and meaningful character. It shows a large animal like a bear or a tiger. Under it is a person's heart and then the part that means “friend.”
Jesus gave up His life to show us His great love. In verse 13 of our Bible Reading, Jesus said, “The greatest love people can show is to die for their friends.” A person who really loves his friend is willing to protect that friend from something dangerous.
Ask God to help you be ready to sacrifice and show His love to other people today. —KP
“I have loved you as the Father has loved me. Now continue in my love. This is my command, Love each other.” John 15:9, 17
PRAYER: God, thank You for Jesus' example of love. I want to show love to others today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Jesus Gave
Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 8:1-9
Monday, June 30, 2014

Jesus Gave Paul talks about giving in our Bible verses today. So that his readers would understand more about giving, Paul talked about what Jesus gave to all of us.
Verse 9 says, “You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. You know that he gave up his heavenly riches for you. He gave up everything so that you could be richly blessed.” When Jesus came to earth, He gave up all the riches and beauty of heaven. He came as a weak and helpless baby. Jesus lived as a human on earth.
Why did Jesus do this? Hebrews 4:15 tells us “Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned.” Jesus came to earth so that He could understand what it is like to be a human.
It is wonderful that Jesus was willing to give up His glorious life in heaven and come to earth to die for us. Praise God today for His Son, Jesus! —RK*
“In your life together, think the way Christ Jesus thought...he gave up everything, even his place with God.” Philippians 2:5,7a
PRAYER: God, thank You that Jesus was willing to come to earth and die for me. In His name. Amen.

Jesus Gives Life
Bible Reading: John 6:25-40
Thursday, April 24, 2014

Jesus Gives Life My car broke down one summer day. My only choice was to walk and find help. After a while, I was tired, thirsty and hungry. Finally a car stopped. The people in the car were going the same direction I needed to go and said they would take me. After I got in the car, they gave me a drink and a snack. I was so thankful that I had a ride and also some food.
In the first part of John, chapter 6, Jesus fed more than 5000 people. In our Bible Reading, those same people asked Jesus some questions. Probably they wanted Jesus to feed them again. Jesus said (verses 32b-33), “…my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. God’s bread is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Jesus told the people that He was the true bread and that He was the only One who could satisfy their spiritual hunger. Do you want the peace and contentment that Jesus gives? Turn to Him and let Him give you eternal life. —BH
“I am the bread that gives life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry. No one who believes in me will ever be thirsty.” John 6:35b
PRAYER: God, thank You for Jesus, our spiritual bread of life. In His name. Amen.

Agape Love (2)
Bible Reading: Luke 15:11-32
Thursday, September 12, 2013

Agape Love (2) Our Bible Reading today is a great example of agape love. This is a story that Jesus told about a son who asked his father for his share of the family wealth. The father loved his son very much, so he gave his son what he asked for.
The son took the money and went away. He wasted the money, and soon he was poor and hungry. He decided to go home to his father.
Verse 20b says, “While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and felt sorry for him. So he ran to him and hugged and kissed him.” At that time, it was not proper for older Jewish men to run. But the father did not care about that. He loved his son, and he ran to meet him.
This is the same kind of love that God has for us. God was willing to give up His only Son to help us have a closer relationship with Him. That is the perfect example of agape love.
How you will love other people today? —JS*
“Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.” John 3:16
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that I can have eternal life through Jesus. In His name. Amen.

At the Cross (1)
Bible Reading: Luke 23:26-31
Wednesday, March 27, 2013

At the Cross (1) Today and for the next few days, we will look at verses from Luke, chapter 23. These verses tell us about Jesus dying on the cross.
Pilate sentenced Jesus to die on a cross. The soldiers led Him away to a hill called Golgotha. They forced Jesus to carry His own wooden cross. Before this, the soldiers had beaten Jesus. He was too weak to carry the heavy cross. So they forced a man “to carry Jesus’ cross and walk behind him” (verse 26b).
The man who carried Jesus’ cross was named Simon. He was from Cyrene. Maybe Simon did not even know who Jesus was. I wonder how Simon felt as he walked behind Jesus to Golgotha.
People forced Simon to carry Jesus’ cross. But no one forced Jesus to die on the cross. He was willing to give up His life for us. Why? Because He loves us and wants us to receive God’s gift of salvation.
Praise God that Jesus was willing to die for us! —BH
“They led Jesus to the place called Golgotha. (Golgotha means “The Place of the Skull.”) The soldiers nailed Jesus to a cross.” Mark 15:22,24a
PRAYER: God, thank You that Jesus was willing to give up His life for me. In His name. Amen.
