Bible Reading: Psalm 32:1-5
Friday, June 17, 2016

Today we will continue to talk about how God rescues us from sin. Imagine that a person is on the ocean in a rubber raft. The raft has a hole in it. What will happen? The raft will sink and the person will probably drown.
That is how we are lost in sin. We have all made bad choices in life. We have disobeyed God. It is like we are lost and drowning in our sin. We cannot save ourselves. We don't even deserve to be saved.
We need someone to rescue us. That person is Jesus! He was not only willing to rescue us, He was willing to take our place and die for us. Then our sins are removed and we are pure before God. Verse 2 of our Bible Reading talks about this. “It is a great blessing when the Lord says they are not guilty, when they don’t try to hide their sins.”
God loves you, and He sent Jesus to die for you. That’s amazing! I hope you will let Jesus rescue you today! —GT

But then I decided to confess my sins to the Lord. I stopped hiding my guilt and told you about my sins. And you forgave them all!” Psalm 32:5
PRAYER: Lord, I am a sinner. Please forgive my sins and rescue me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Lost (3)
Bible Reading: Luke 15: 11-24
Monday, February 23, 2015

Lost (3) The third story that Jesus told is my favorite. This story is about a son who took his family money and went away. Then this son wasted all his money “living like a fool” (verse 13b). When all his money was gone, the only job he could find was feeding pigs. This son was so hungry that he wanted to eat the pigs’ food!
Finally the son decided to go home to his father and ask for forgiveness. “While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and felt sorry for him. So he ran to him and hugged and kissed him” (verse 20). The son did not deserve his father’s forgiveness, but the father accepted him back as his son.
We have all sinned and disobeyed God. We don’t deserve God’s forgiveness. But God still offers us His love and mercy. No matter how bad you think your sins are, God can forgive you and make you part of His family.
Turn to God today — He loves you and will forgive all your sins. —JF

“All have sinned and are not good enough to share God’s divine greatness.” Romans 3:23
PRAYER: Father, I know that I am lost without You. Please forgive me and help me stay close to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lost (2)
Bible Reading: Luke 15:8-10
Sunday, February 22, 2015

Lost (2) Jesus continued to tell another story about something that was lost. This time the story was about a woman who had ten silver coins, but she lost one. Probably these ten coins were very important to this woman. Maybe this was all the money she had. So when she lost one coin, she was very upset.
The woman cleaned her house and looked for the lost coin. She continued to search until she found it. Then she did what the shepherd did in our story yesterday — she told her friends and neighbors the good news. She said (verse 9), “Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!”
Then Jesus talks again about a lost sinner. He said that when someone changes and turns to God, the angels in heaven are very happy.
Think about the time when you became a Christian. Did you know that the angels rejoiced with you? Thank God today for His wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus. —JF
“In the same way, it’s a happy time for the angels of God when one sinner decides to change.” Luke 15:10
PRAYER: God, I remember the day I surrendered my life to You. Thank You for saving me and forgiving my sins. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lost (1)
Bible Reading: Luke 15:1-7
Saturday, February 21, 2015

Lost (1) Today and for the next two days, we will look at three stories that Jesus told in Luke, chapter 15. All of these stories tell about something or someone who was lost. In the first story, Jesus told about a shepherd with 100 sheep. Then the shepherd discovered that one sheep was missing. So he searched for the sheep until he found it.
What happened next? The shepherd was very happy that he had found the lost sheep. He told his friends and neighbors, “Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep” (verse 6b).
Then Jesus says that this story is like one sinner who decides to repent of his sins and change his life. When that happens, there is rejoicing in heaven. “There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 people who don't need to change” (verse 7b).
We, too, should be happy when someone becomes a Christian. Do you know someone who is a new Christian? Tell them that you are happy for them and encourage them to continue to follow Jesus. —JF
“In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change.” Luke 15:7a
PRAYER: God, help me to encourage a new Christian today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Wrong Way
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:21-25
Monday, July 22 2013

The Wrong Way I am a member of a small congregation. At our last Christmas program, some of the smaller children were dressed as lambs. An adult, dressed as a shepherd, carried a one-year-old child dressed as a lamb. Another lamb was two-year-old Brett. He was a good lamb, but several times during the program this little lamb went the wrong way and wandered out into the audience.
Brett reminds me of some Christians today. Just as Brett went the wrong way, these Christians wander away from God and out into the world full of sin. In verse 25 of our Bible Reading today, Peter says, “You were like sheep that went the wrong way. But now you have come back to the Shepherd and Protector of your lives.”
Jesus is our Shepherd and Protector. He wants us to make the right choices. But sometimes we go the wrong way. Jesus is always watching us and wants us to ask Him for forgiveness. Be sure that you are going the right way today. Let Jesus lead and protect you. —NM
“We had all wandered away like sheep. We had gone our own way. And yet the Lord put all our guilt on him.” Isaiah 53:6
PRAYER: Dear Father, please forgive me and help me focus on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Psalm 119 (10)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:169-176
Tuesday, October 16, 2012

Psalm 119 (10) Most people who have pets love and protect them. These people become sad when their animal wanders away from home. They look for their pet and call out their name. If the animal does not return, they ask people if they have seen the pet. Sometimes pet owners advertise in the newspaper and offer a reward if the animal is found.
Sometimes we may feel like we are lost from God. In many of the psalms, God is compared to a shepherd who takes care of His sheep. In verse 176a of our Bible Reading, the writer says, “I wandered away like a lost sheep. Come looking for me, Lord.”
Maybe the writer of this psalm became involved in some sin and wandered away from God. Then the writer realized that he needed to be close to God again. So he called out to God and asked God to find him.
Jesus said in Luke, chapter 15, that the shepherd (God) will continue to search until He finds a sheep that has wandered away. God wants you to be close to Him. Ask Him to love and protect you today. —PD

“The man will continue to search for the lost sheep until he finds it. And when he finds the sheep, the man is very happy.” Luke 15:4b-5a

PRAYER: Father, thank You for loving me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
