—ECW

Prayer Life
Bible Reading: Ephesians 6:18
Wednesday, October 5, 2016

My husband takes care of the finances in our family. He pays the bills and balances our checkbook. One time I asked him what was the hardest part of taking care of our finances. He said that the hardest part is making sure that he takes care of things every day. If he gets behind, it is hard to catch up.
Prayer is the way that we communicate with God. So it is important that we pray every day. But sometimes we get busy and we don't pray as often as we should. When I neglect to pray every day, my life suffers. I begin to think that I can do things by myself and I don’t need to depend on God.
In our Bible verse for today, Paul gives us good advice about prayer. We have the freedom to pray anywhere or anytime. We can tell God how we feel and ask Him for what we need. But, we should not give up praying. Prayer should be a very important part of our day.
Don’t neglect your prayer life today. Spend some time talking with your Heavenly Father! —ECW

“The Lord hates the offerings of the wicked, but he is happy to hear the prayers of those who live right.” Proverbs 15:8
PRAYER: Father, thank You that I can talk to You every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—BH

Psalm 119 (4)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:25-32
Friday, September 23, 2016

I found my Bible and opened it to our verses for today. I cried as I read verse 28, “I am sad and tired. Say the word, and make me strong again.”
Why was I crying? The day before I had taken our dog, Goldie, to the vet. She could not walk, so I wanted the vet to find out what was wrong. The vet called me that morning to tell me that Goldie had died during the night. My two sons and I were so sad!
Some people think that pets are not important, but Goldie was a special part of our family. She would always stay near my sons' beds when they were sick. As I did my daily housework, Goldie would follow me everywhere. When I sat down, she would lie at my feet.
Maybe you are sad today. Maybe you have lost a pet, or a friend or relative has died. Or maybe you have financial problems or have lost your job. The only true place you can find comfort and peace is through God's Word. Open your Bible and read God's words. He will give you the strength you need to go on. —BH

—BH

In the Desert (1)
Bible Reading: Genesis 21:14-21
Thursday, August 18, 2016

Sometimes people say that they feel like they are in the desert. That doesn't mean that they are in a dry place on earth. It means that they are confused and don't know what to do in life.
In our Bible Reading, a woman named Hagar was in a dry desert place. Abraham had sent her and her son, Ishmael, away. Soon Hagar ran out of water. She and Ishmael started to cry. Verse 17a says, “God heard the boy crying, and God's angel called to Hagar from heaven. He said, ‘What is wrong, Hagar? Don't be afraid!’” Then God allowed Hagar to see a well, and she was able to get some water to drink. God continued to take care of Hagar and Ishmael as they lived in the desert.
When we face a difficult situation or we are confused about what we should do, we can always ask God for help. He will help us through our bad times and continue to lead us every day. Maybe you feel like you are in the desert today. You are not alone. God is with you. Ask Him to help you! —BH

-JK

Bible Mothers (3)
Bible Reading: 2 Kings 4:1-7
Tuesday, May 10, 2016

Our Bible verses tell us about a woman whose husband had died. This woman came to God's prophet, Elisha. In verse 1b, she told Elisha that her husband “owed money to a man. And now that man is coming to take my two boys and make them his slaves!”
The woman told Elisha that the only thing she had in her house was a jar of olive oil. Elisha told her to borrow lots of bowls from her neighbors. “Then pour the oil into all those bowls. Fill them, and put them in a separate place” (verse 4b). The woman did what Elisha told her to do. She was able to fill all the bowls she had! Then Elisha said (verse 7b), “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt. You and your sons can live on the money that is left.”
This mother did not want her sons to be sold as slaves. She was desperate to find a way to keep her sons. God helped her in an amazing way! Maybe you are facing difficult situations today. Don't give up. Pray to God and ask Him to help you find answers to your problems. —JK

Seven Churches (4)
Bible Reading: Revelation 2:8-11
Monday, April 4, 2016

In our Bible verses today, John shares Jesus' message with the Christians in Smyrna. The city of Smyrna was an important seaport 35 miles north of Ephesus. Many Jews lived in Smyrna. Also there were many people who worshiped Roman gods as well as the Emperor Tiberius. These people caused problems for the Christians in Smyrna.
Verse 10a reminds us that it is the devil who really persecutes Christians. “Don't be afraid of what will happen to you. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison.” The devil wants Christians to stop following God and follow him instead. But God uses these times of persecution to help us grow stronger.
When we face troubles or times of persecution, we can still be victorious through Jesus. God will bless us, and our final reward will be eternal life with Him. I encourage you to stay faithful to Him today and every day! —DF

—LB

Blessings
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:3-8
Monday, February 8, 2016

When we are going through difficult times, it is hard to think about the blessings that God gives us. We may think only about the things that are going wrong and forget about the good things we have.
God blesses us with food, clothing and a place to live. He also has blessed us with His gift of salvation through His Son, Jesus. Because Jesus was willing to die for us, we can have eternal life. Those are wonderful blessings!

Our Bible Reading today reminds us that because we have blessings from God, we should have certain things in our lives. What are those things? Verses 5-7 tell us that we should have faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, patience, devotion to God and kindness. “If all these things are in you and growing, you will never fail to be useful to God” (verse 8a).
When you are sad or worried, think about all the blessings God has given you. And don't forget to thank Him for blessing you. —LB

Thorns
Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Thuesday, February 2, 2016

Roses are very beautiful. But if I want to enjoy them,
I might be pricked by their thorns. These thorns can be a painful problem.
We all have problems in our lives that may cause us pain and sadness. We don't like these problems,
and we wish that we didn't have them. But painful problems can be important to us. We can learn from these problems. We may learn to be more patient or loving.

Our Bible verses today tell us
that Paul had a painful problem
in his life. We do not know what this problem was, but it made Paul suffer. Paul asked God to take away this problem, but God said to Paul, “My grace is all you need. Only when you are weak can everything be done completely by my power” (verse 9b).
Paul's problem helped him to be humble and to depend on God more. You may have a painful problem in your life. Ask God to help you be strong and to depend on Him. —GT

-JK

Sea of Galilee (3)
Bible Reading: Matthew 8:23-27
Thursday, September 24, 2015

Sea of Galilee (3) Our Bible verses today tell us that Jesus and His followers were in a boat on the Sea of Galilee. While they were on the lake, a very bad storm came up.
When the storm happened, Jesus was asleep in the boat. Jesus’ followers were afraid, so they awoke Jesus. In verse 25b they said, “Lord, save us! We will drown!” Jesus stood up and told the wind and waves to stop. “The wind stopped, and the lake became very calm” (verse 26b).
We may face “storms” in our lives. These storms may be sickness, financial problems, divorce or challenges in our jobs. If we try to face these problems alone, we may feel scared — just like Jesus’ followers in the boat. We need God to help us with our problems.
What are you facing today? Are you lonely or discouraged? You can depend on God to help you through these problems. He is wise and knows what is best for you. —JK

Pilgrim Psalms (7)
Bible Reading: Psalm 126:1-6
Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Pilgrim Psalms (7) To punish the Israelites for their disobedience, God allowed them to be taken captive by other countries. Psalm 126 is talking about a time in the future when God will bring the Israelites back to their homeland of Israel.
When the Israelites return home, they will be very happy. Why? Because “the Lord did a great thing for us” (verse 3b). They will again plant seeds and raise crops. All of Israel will be happy that God has rescued them.
Maybe you have felt like the Israelites felt when they were in captivity — you have been sick or faced some kind of struggle in your life. When that happens, we can always pray and ask God to take care of us.

God's Teachings
Bible Reading: Psalm 1:1-6
Tuesday, September 8, 2015

God's Teachings I admire people who are going through troubles but still have a strong faith in God. How are these people able to stand firm and not give up? I believe we can find the answer to that question in our Bible Reading today.
People who have a strong faith in God “love the Lord's teachings and think about them day and night” (verse 2b). This means that they enjoy obeying God's commands, and they are always thinking about ways to follow Him more closely.
Our Bible verses tell us that God will bless the people who have a strong faith in Him. The writer of Psalm 1 compares these people to a strong tree. A strong tree will produce good fruit. In the same way, God will bless a person with strong faith, and everything they do will be successful (verse 3).
Do you love to study the Bible? Do you think about it all the time? Read God's Word today and help your faith to grow. —NW
“So they grow strong, like a tree planted by a stream — a tree that produces fruit when it should and has leaves that never fall. Everything they do is successful.” Psalm 1:3
