Jesus' Life (2)
Bible Reading: Luke 2:4-20
Friday, October 14, 2016

The prophet Micah wrote, “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, are the smallest town in Judah...but the ‘Ruler of Israel' will come from you to rule for me” (Micah 5:2). This verse tells us that God's Son would be born in Bethlehem. And our Bible Reading from Luke today says that Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
We know where Jesus was born, but we do not know the exact date. Bible scholars have debated for many years about when Jesus was born. Many people have chosen to celebrate Jesus' birth on December 25th.
But we can celebrate Jesus' birth every day of the year! We should remember that without Jesus, we are lost and have no hope. Jesus came to earth to be the Savior of the world!
Take some time today to celebrate Jesus! Thank God for sending Jesus to accept the punishment for your sins. Share your thanks and joy with other people. —RF*

“Always be filled with joy in the Lord. I will say it again. Be filled with joy.” Philippians 4:4
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to bring us the hope of salvation. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—DJH*

Waiting
Bible Reading: Romans 8:18-25
Friday, July 29, 2016

My grandson is a missionary in Africa. I talk with him through e-mail and Facebook. One day I asked him some questions. I waited for his answers, but his e-mail was down. He was not able to answer my questions for several days. I waited and waited. I did not like waiting for his answers. I was not very patient.
The time when Jesus comes back will be an exciting day. Our Bible verses today tell us about the hope that we have in Jesus. Therefore, we should be willing to wait patiently for Him. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 tells us, “The Lord himself will come down from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God…We will be taken up in the clouds and meet the Lord in the air. And we will be with the Lord forever.”
It will be so wonderful when Jesus returns and takes His followers to live with Him forever. We should wait patiently for that time.
Thank God today for helping you wait patiently for Jesus. —DJH*

“But we are hoping for something that we don't have yet, and we are waiting for it patiently.” Romans 8:25
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me to be patient as I wait for Jesus' return. In His name. Amen.

—CW*

Summer (5)
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-3
Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Each summer I would spend a week with my friend, Marilyn. Then she would spend a week with me.
I lived in town, but Marilyn lived on a farm. We each had different things to do at our homes. Marilyn's mother was in a wheelchair, so Marilyn had many chores to do. I remember trying to help her gather eggs. But sometimes the hens did not want us to take away their eggs!
Marilyn and I had a lot of fun together. I would count the days until I could go to her house. I always looked forward to spending time with her on the farm.
We should look forward to the time when Jesus will come again. But our Bible verses tell us that we do not know when Jesus will come. Many people have tried to predict the exact time, but only God knows. So, we must always be ready for Jesus to come and take us to live with Him forever.
Are you ready today to meet Jesus? —CW*

Hope
Bible Reading: Luke 2:1-20
Saturday, December 5, 2015

Hope Our Bible Reading today is the same as we read two days ago. These verses remind us that Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem must have been a time of uncertainty.
Probably Mary and Joseph didn't know what to expect when they arrived in Bethlehem. They found that “the guest room was full” (verse 7b), so baby Jesus was born and laid “in a box where cattle are fed” (verse 7a). Maybe Mary and Joseph were surprised when the shepherds came to worship Jesus. But through all this, Mary and Joseph had hope in God's plans for them and for His Son, Jesus.
Sometimes we face things that are difficult and painful. We may not understand why God is allowing these things to happen to us. But just like Mary and Joseph, we can have hope in God's plan for our lives.
God took care of Mary, Joseph and Jesus. God will take care of you today, too! —BH
“I pray that God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace as you trust in him. Then you will have more and more hope, and it will flow out of you by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
PRAYER: Lord, I have hope in Your promises about my life. Thank You! In Jesus' name. Amen.

PN*

God, My Shepherd

Bible Reading: Psalm 23:1-6
Saturday, October 24, 2015

I am deaf, but I have been attending a hearing school in Burundi for five years. Before I started going to the hearing school, I was afraid I would not pass the entrance tests.

As I was thinking about the entrance tests, I remembered Psalm 23. Verse 1 says, “The Lord is my shepherd. I will always have everything I need.” After I thought about those verses, I was comforted to know that God was with me.

I passed the tests and was able to start school soon after that. As I studied, I continued to pray and ask God to help me. At the end of the term, I was second in my class. I thanked God for helping me do well in school. I am now studying computer science and have two more years until I graduate.

God will take care of you, too. Talk to Him today. Tell Him your worries and thank Him for all He does for you. God will truly be your Shepherd. —PN*

—SAH

Never Give Up
Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
Tuesday, October 6, 2015

Never Give Up When I was younger, I was healthy and I didn’t spend much time thinking about God and all that He does for me. But now I am older. My body is aging, and I have more physical problems. This causes me to think more about God and how I can be closer to Him.
Getting older does not discourage me. Paul said in verse 16 of our Bible Reading, “That is why we never give up. Our physical body is becoming weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day.” Every day that I am alive, I have new opportunities to learn more about God.
Every morning when I look out the window, I see the sunrise with all its beautiful colors. That fills me with hope. The lake behind my house is quiet and calm. That reminds me of God’s peace. Everything I see is a reminder that God is my Creator and Savior.
As you get older, don’t be discouraged and give up. Look around today and see everything God has made for you. —SAH

Moving (2) It is wonderful to live in our new home. Although we miss our old house, we are enjoying the new home that we bought.
God has given us a place to live here on earth. It is wonderful to be a Christian, but still we are surrounded by sin and temptations every day. Sometimes I just want to move to a place where everything is peaceful and perfect.
In our Bible verses today, we read about a perfect home that Christians will share with God someday. Everything will be beautiful, peaceful and perfect. Verse 4 tells us that there “will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain. All the old ways are gone.” Wow — I want to live there!
When you become discouraged and sad because of all the bad things in the world, think about the wonderful home that God has prepared for His children. Obey His Word and look forward to your new home with God. —JK

—HLN

Bible Mysteries (7)
Bible Reading: Colossians 1:24-27
Saturday, April 25, 2015

Bible Mysteries (7) Our Bible verses today tell us about another Bible mystery. Paul shared this mystery with the Christians in the city of Colossae. “That secret truth, which is for all people, is that Christ lives in you, his people” (verse 27b).
I cannot think of any Old Testament verses that tell us that God lived in someone. God was generally spoken of as being exalted, lifted up and high, not living in someone.
But through Jesus, we can know that He lives within us — in our hearts, our minds and our lives. Jesus is never far away. He is in us every day.
When we know that Jesus lives in us, we have hope of living forever with Him. With every day that passes, that hope becomes more real. Praise God that Jesus is alive and lives within you today! —HLN

Strong Foundation
Bible Reading: Matthew 7:24-27
Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Strong Foundation On my door I have a wreath made of artificial flowers. The other day I opened the door, and a bird flew out of the wreath. I looked at the wreath and saw that the bird had been building a nest there. Most of the nest fell on the ground when I opened the door.
In our Bible Reading today, Jesus talked about two men who built houses. One man built his house on a strong foundation of rock. The other man built his house on sand. When a storm with winds and rain came, the house on the rock stood strong. But the house on the sand fell apart.
Sometimes we try to build our hopes, trust and dreams on things that are not from God. These can be things like friends, family, money, education, beauty, health or youth. None of these things are bad, but they should not be the foundation of our lives. When problems happen, these things can fall apart — just like the bird’s nest fell apart.
Put your hope and trust and faith in Christ today. —SQ

Favorite Verses (5) Life on earth is not always easy. Bad things happen. People continue to sin and rebel against God. Maybe you feel like there is no hope.
When I am feeling discouraged, I like to read and think about Revelation, chapters 21 and 22. One of Jesus’ disciples, John, received a vision of heaven from God. John’s description of heaven is beautiful! We will see a new heaven and a new earth. We will see Jesus. We will see other Christians. There will be no more sin. Everything will be perfect. I encourage you to read these verses again and again.
Don’t give up! Remember we are only on earth for a short time. For those who are Christians, we will be able to live with Jesus in heaven forever. May our Bible Reading today encourage you to keep your faith, no matter what challenges you may face in your life. —CPE*

—JK

Hebrews 10 (2)
Bible Reading: Hebrews 10: 19-23
Friday, October 10, 2014

Hebrews 10 (2) The Jewish high priest was the only person who could enter the Most Holy Place where God lived. No other person could enter that place and make sacrifices. When Jesus died, everything changed — Christians could have their sins forgiven through the blood of Jesus. They did not need to have a high priest make a sacrifice for them.
In our Bible Reading, we can find several things that Christians should do. First, we should “come near to God with a sincere heart” (verse 22). We can do this because Jesus removed our sins and made us clean. Second, we should remember the hope that we have. This hope is that Jesus will come again to take us to be with Him forever. Third, we should tell other people about this hope.
Think about your life today. Maybe you have not allowed Jesus to remove your sins. Maybe you have forgotten that Jesus will come again. Maybe you are not telling people about Jesus. Now is the time to change. Decide to follow these verses today. —JK
