—SAH

Seeds
Bible Reading: Mark 4:13-20
Wednesday, November 30, 2016

I spent many years teaching math to students. Now I am retired. But God continues to teach me lessons about Himself and His Word.
Our Bible Reading is a story that Jesus told about planting seeds. The seeds in this story are God's teaching. As I was working in my garden recently, I thought about these verses. If seeds stay in the package, they can't be planted. When they are taken out of the package and planted in good soil, they begin to grow. With sunlight and water, these seeds will produce fruit, flowers or vegetables.
When I decided to follow Jesus as my Lord and Savior, God planted the seeds of His teaching in my heart. Then I started to grow as a Christian and to share the Good News about Jesus with others.
I hope you will be like the good ground in Jesus’ story. I hope that you will receive His teaching and grow as a Christian. —SAH

“And others are like the seed planted on the good ground. They hear the teaching and accept it. Then they grow and produce a good crop.” Mark 4:20a
PRAYER: Father, help me to receive Your Word and to share it with other people. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Faith Journey (1)
Bible Reading: Psalm 91:1-9
Wednesday, September 7, 2016

Today and for the next few days I will share with you how I learned about Jesus and how my faith has grown through the years. I call this my “Faith Journey.
When I was little, I had terrible nightmares. My grandparents came to visit us in California. We went to San Juan Capistrano to watch the swallows that came there every year. My grandma took me to the chapel there and bought me a picture of Jesus. In the daytime, the picture looked normal. But at night, the picture glowed in the dark. This picture gave me comfort and peace at night.
I loved looking at that picture of Jesus, and that was the beginning of my faith journey. My grandma taught me about Jesus, and later my parents took me to Sunday School where I learned more.
Our Bible verses today teach us that God is our place of safety and that we can trust Him to protect us. Trust God today to take care of you and comfort you. —DF

“I say to the Lord, ‘You are my place of safety, my fortress. My God, I trust in you.’” Psalm 91:2
PRAYER: Dear God, You have always been with me, and I know that You will be with me today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Jesus (1)
Bible Reading: Mark 6:1-3
Monday, August 22, 2016

In today's Bible Reading, Jesus went to Nazareth. Nazareth is the town where Jesus grew up. The people there were amazed when Jesus tried to teach them. The people in Nazareth had known Jesus when He was a child. They thought He was just a simple carpenter. They did not understand how Jesus could be important.
Those people could not see the truth about Jesus. They did not want to understand. Jesus showed them proof that He was God's Son. But they did not believe.
Sometimes we are like those people. We think it is very easy to understand Jesus. We think we already know Him. But we must think about Jesus and really study the Bible. Then we will understand more about Him.
For the next few days we will learn more about Jesus. Then you can begin to know more about Him. Jesus will change your life forever! —MK

“Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.” John 3:16
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I want to learn more about Jesus. Help me to know Him and to share Him with other people. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Lessons from Mark (5)
Bible Reading: Mark 6:14-29
Wednesday, February 17, 2016

When I was young, I went to church with my parents and my brothers and sister. But we did not have a true relationship with Jesus. When we left the church building, we acted just like the rest of the world.
Years later I became a Christian, and I understood who Jesus really is. I realized that I was like the people in our Bible Reading today. Some thought Jesus was John the Baptizer come back to life. Other people thought Jesus was Elijah or some other prophet.
Now I know that it is more important to know that Jesus is the Son of God than to have fancy religious ideas. When I am filled with pride, I need to remember that Jesus can truly change us and make us new people who love and serve Him.
Do you really believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God? If you do, then live your life every day for Him. —SH*

—SH*

Lessons from Mark (1)
Bible Reading: Mark 6:7-13
Saturday, February 13, 2016

I worked several years for a company. During that time I learned many things about the company. When they hired new employees, it was my job to teach them about the company.
Our Bible Reading today talks about Jesus' twelve apostles. These men worked and traveled with Jesus for three years. During that time Jesus taught them about God's kingdom. Later eleven of these men helped start the first church in Jerusalem.
These verses tell us that Jesus sent out His apostles. They “talked to the people and told them to change their hearts and lives” (verse 12b). I shared about our company with new employees. In the same way, the apostles shared what they had learned about Jesus.
Are you sharing what you have learned about Jesus with others? God wants you to go into the world and tell the Good News about salvation. He will give you strength and always be with you. —SH*

—JK

Walking (4)
Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 11:13-21
Tuesday, November 11, 2014

Walking (4) In today's Bible Reading, verse 19 says, “Teach these laws to your children. Talk about these things when you sit in your houses, when you walk along the road, when you lie down, and when you get up.” Moses received these words from God. It has always been God's plan for fathers and mothers to teach their children about Him. In these verses, God reminds parents to take every opportunity to teach their children about His love and His commands.
When I was a child, my family drove 16 miles to church. My parents used that time in the car to teach me about God. We sang Christian songs and memorized Bible verses. We played Bible trivia games and talked about God's creation.
Remember these words from Deuteronomy and find ways to teach your children and grandchildren about God. No matter what you are doing — sitting at the dinner table, walking in the park or tucking your children into bed at night — you should be sharing God's love and teachings with them. —JK
“You must love the Lord your God, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” Deuteronomy 11:13b
PRAYER: Dear God, I will show Your love to other people today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Ephesians Prayer (1)
Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:15-23
Thursday, October 2, 2014

Ephesians Prayer (1) Several times in the book of Ephesians, Paul prays for the Christians in Ephesus. One prayer is found in our Bible verses today.
Paul starts verse 16 by saying, “That is why I always remember you in my prayers and thank God for you.” This is a great example for us to follow. We should pray for other Christians and ask God to strengthen them. And we should tell these Christians that we are praying for them.
How should we pray for others? Paul prayed that these people would know and understand God’s truths so that they would know Him better. Then, when they understand God’s truths, they will have the hope and blessings that come from God.
Maybe you can make a list of your Christian friends and family. Take time to pray for them. Ask God to help them know more about Him every day. —BH
“I pray that God will open your minds to see his truth. Then you will know the hope that he has chosen us to have. You will know that the blessings God has promised his holy people are rich and glorious.” Ephesians 1:18
PRAYER: God, thank You for Christians in my life. Help me to pray for them every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—CW*

Letter to Ephesus (1)
Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:15-17
Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Letter to Ephesus (1) Paul traveled to many cities to tell people about Jesus. One of those cities was Ephesus. The book of Ephesians in the New Testament is a letter that Paul wrote to Christians in Ephesus.
In our Bible Reading, Paul said that he prayed for the Christians in Ephesus and thanked God for them. Paul’s prayer was that God “will give you the Spirit, who will let you know truths about God and help you understand them, so that you will know him better” (verse 17b).
These verses help me understand that Paul really loved the Ephesian Christians. I, too, love my brothers and sisters in Christ. When I pray, I thank God for them and ask that they will know God better. Then, I encourage these Christians by telling them that I pray for them.
God is awesome, loving, forgiving and merciful. We should want everyone to know Him better. Thank God today for other Christians and pray that they will know God better. —CW*
“I pray that God will open your minds to see his truth. Then you will know the hope that he has chosen us to have.” Ephesians 1:18a

—JK

Women in Acts (7)
Bible Reading: Acts 16:1-2; 2 Timothy 1:3-6
Monday, July 7, 2014

Women in Acts (7) Timothy was a young man who became a Christian. Acts, chapter 16, tells us that Timothy’s father was a Greek. But Timothy’s mother was a Jew who believed in God. After Timothy became a Christian, he traveled and told people about Jesus. Sometimes Timothy traveled with Paul.
2 Timothy is a letter that Paul wrote to Timothy to encourage him in his ministry. In 2 Timothy, Paul talks about Timothy’s grandmother and mother. Paul said, “I remember your true faith. That kind of faith first belonged to your grandmother Lois and to your mother Eunice. I know you now have that same faith” (verse 5).
Lois and Eunice believed in God. And they taught Timothy to believe in God, too. That was the foundation for Timothy to learn about Jesus and to believe that He is God’s Son.
It is very important for us to teach our children and grandchildren about Jesus. And it is also important for us to follow Jesus’ example of obeying God. Then our children and grandchildren will want to be like Jesus, too. —JK

-CW*

Jesus as a Boy (2)
Bible Reading: Luke 2:41-52
Tuesday, March 25, 2014

Jesus as a Boy (2) Today we will continue to talk about the time Jesus was at the temple. The religious teachers were amazed at how much Jesus knew. “Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and wise answers” (verse 47).
Jesus said it was important for Him to “be where my Father’s work is” (verse 49b). His words make me wonder what is important to us. What do we do with our time? How much time do we spend learning about God? If it is important for us to learn about God, we need to make it a priority in our lives.
People who are learning how to be a doctor or a lawyer spend many years studying. If God and His Word are important to us, we need to spend time reading the Bible. We can read the Bible alone or join in a group Bible study.
What is important in your life today? How much time will you spend learning about God? —CW*
