—SAH

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-8
Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Many years ago, something bad happened to me in my house. I had so many bad memories that I didn't want to even be in my house.
On Sundays I went to a friend's house after church. She cooked dinner for me, and we laughed and talked. But when it became dark she said, “I know you don't want to go home, but you've got to go.” A few months later a hurricane destroyed my house, and I had to rebuild. I felt like all my bad memories were washed away when my home was destroyed.
Our Bible verses talk about our eternal home with God. One day everything here on earth will be destroyed, even our physical bodies. “But when that happens, God will have a home for us to live in. It will not be the kind of home people build here. It will be a home in heaven that will continue forever” (verse 1b).
I obey and follow Jesus every day. Now I can't wait to go to my heavenly home and live forever with God. —SAH

“Our only goal is to always please the Lord, whether we are living here in this body or there with him.” 2 Corinthians 5:9
PRAYER: Father, thank You for preparing a place where I can live with You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

1 Thessalonians (3)
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 2:13-20
Monday, September 15, 2014

1 Thessalonians (3) As Christians, we have God’s message in our hearts. We should not let things in the world discourage us. We should keep our focus on God and His Word.
Paul was very proud of the church in Thessalonica. He told them in verses 19 and 20, “You are our hope, our joy, and the crown we will be proud of when our Lord Jesus Christ comes. You bring us honor and joy.” These Christians were suffering bad things because of the Jews who didn’t believe. But still, the Thessalonians remained strong in their faith.
The Christians in Thessalonica were strong because they had accepted God’s message. They had made God’s teaching part of their lives and allowed this teaching to help them every day.
God’s message is working in our lives today, too. Be sure to not let men’s ideas keep you from accepting the truth from God. Stay close to God and His Word, the Bible. —KR
“Also, we always thank God because of the way you accepted his message. You heard it and accepted it as God’s message, not our own.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13
PRAYER: Dear God, help me to focus on You and Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Knows You
Bible Reading: Psalm 87:1-7
Wednesday June 12 2013

God Knows You Sometimes we may become disappointed, confused, frustrated or discouraged. And, we may also experience physical or emotional pain. When we feel like that, we can be comforted by our Bible Reading today.
Psalm 87 is only seven verses long, but it is full of hope. In verse 5b, God says, “I know each and every person born there.” Then verse 6 tells us, “The Lord keeps a list of all his people, and he knows where each of them was born.”
These verses are talking about God’s people who lived in Jerusalem. But from these verses we can learn that God knows all about us. He knows our names, where we live, and what we think. And God always knows what is best for us.
Are you feeling alone and discouraged today? Remember that God loves you and knows all about you. He will not forget you. God will give you strength and comfort to face your problems. —BH
“Lord...you know all about me. You know where I go and where I lie down. You know everything I do.” Psalm 139:1,3

Hope: Who?
Bible Reading: Hebrews 8:1-13
Thursday, June 6 2013

Hope: Who? I remember when we had a bad ice and wind storm. Walking on the ice was very difficult. When I tried to walk, the wind blew me backwards.
Finally, I went into my garage and found a pole that had a sharp end. As I walked, I held onto the pole and poked the sharp end into the ice. This helped me walk against the wind on the slippery ice.
I have faced many “storms” in life. These storms were times when I was confused or sad or frustrated. But I have learned that during these times, I need to have hope in Jesus. He is like the pole that kept me from falling. Jesus helps me stand strong and not give up.
Our Bible Reading today tells us that Jesus is sitting on the right side of God. He is always with us, helping us and showing us His love and mercy.
You can depend on Jesus today. He will keep you strong and help you face the “storms” in your life. —BH

—GT

Christmas Emotions (3)
Bible Reading: Psalm 42:1-11
Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Christmas Emotions (3) You may think that Christmas is a time for joy and happiness. But some people are not happy at Christmas.
Many people feel sad and suffer from depression at Christmas. Maybe they feel sad because they are away from friends and family. Some people are sad because they don’t have money to buy gifts. Other people are depressed because they feel left out or forgotten. These people may ask the same questions that the psalm writer asked in verse 11. “Why should I be so sad? Why should I be so upset?”
As Christians, it is our responsibility to encourage and comfort other people. We can do this if we remember that Jesus is the reason that we celebrate Christmas. We celebrate Christmas to help us remember that Jesus came to earth so He could live here and die on the cross. Jesus came to die so our sins could be forgiven.
Look at the people around you this Christmas season. Do you see someone who is sad or depressed? Comfort them and help them. And, remind them how much God loves them. —GT
“You saved my soul. My soul will be happy. I will sing songs of praise with my lips.” Psalm 71:23
PRAYER: Father, my heart is full of praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—ECW

Depressed
Bible Reading: Psalm 69:1-36
Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Depressed Most Bibles say that Psalm 69 was written by David. He must have written this at a time when he was very depressed. He said things throughout the psalm like “I am about to drown” (verse 2), “I have more enemies than the hairs on my head” (verse 4), “My face is covered with shame” (verse 7), and “People tell jokes about me” (verse 11).
But even though David was depressed, He remembered that God loved him. In verse 13, David said, “As for me, this is my prayer to you, Lord: I want you to accept me! God, I want you to answer me with love. I know I can trust you to save me.” David ended this psalm by praising God for all He did for him.
We all go through times when we are sad or depressed. Maybe we are sick or facing financial problems or someone we love has died. When we feel like this, we need to remember to reach out to God, like David did. God will help us and remind us that we are not alone. —ECW
“God, lift me up. Save me! I will praise God’s name in song. I will praise him with a song of thanks. This will make God happy!” Psalm 69:29b-31a
PRAYER: Father, thank You for always loving and helping me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—ECW

God’s Help
Bible Reading: Psalm 121:1-8
Wednesday, November 14, 2012

God’s Help I love to look at mountains and hills. They are so beautiful! Our psalm today talks about hills. Verse 1 says, “I look up to the hills for help. But where will my help really come from?”
Hills are big and strong. When I feel weak, I might think that I can receive strength from something that is strong. But hills or mountains cannot help us. Only God can truly help us when we are depressed and lonely and weak.
This psalm continues to talk about God’s power and help. “God will not let you fall. Your Protector will not fall asleep” (verse 3). God is always ready to help us, twenty-four hours a day. We can always depend on Him.
Many people today look for help from drugs, alcohol or relationships. But real help comes from God. Ask Him to protect and give you strength to face your problems today. —ECW
“The Lord will protect your soul. The Lord will help as you come and go. The Lord will help you now and forever!” Psalm 121:8

—SH*

God’s Goodness
Bible Reading: Psalm 77:1-20
Monday, November 12, 2012

God’s Goodness Our Bible Reading today is about a man who is troubled. He wonders whether God has left him alone. “I reached out for you all night long. My soul refused to be comforted” (verse 2b).
In verse 10, the man wonders if God has lost His power. But instead of thinking that God has left him, the writer says in verse 11, “I remember the amazing things that you did long ago.” Then the man lists some things that show God’s goodness to the Israelites.
When I am depressed, I often think about the bad things that have happened to me. I even imagine bad things that might happen in the future. Instead, I should be focusing on how God has helped me and how He will continue strengthening me.
God has done many wonderful things for you. He takes care of you every day. And, most importantly, God has given you the gift of salvation through Jesus. Think about His goodness today. —SH*

—DJH*

Trust God
Bible Reading: Psalm 13:1-6
Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Trust God In our Bible Reading today, the writer is depressed and discouraged. He thinks God has forgotten him. Finally, the writer pleads with God in verse 3. “Lord my God, look at me! Answer my question! Let me know the answer or I will die!”
Although the psalm writer is depressed, he still trusts God. In verses 5-6 he said, “Lord, I trusted in your love to help me. You saved me and made me happy! I sing a happy song to the Lord because he did good things for me.”
Perhaps you think that God has forgotten you because He does not seem to answer your prayers. Sometimes God wants us to wait for our answers. We need to be patient and continue to trust Him.
If we truly ask for God’s help, He will hear us. Our answer may not come right away, but God will answer our prayers in His time. Then we will praise God, because He always knows what is best for us. —DJH*

—SH*

Separated from God
Bible Reading: Psalm 88:1-18
Thursday, October 25, 2012

Separated from God Our psalm today talks about someone who is praying to God for help. He feels so bad that he said in verse 5, “Look for me among the dead people. I am like a dead body lying in the grave, one of the dead people you forgot, cut off from you and your care.”
This person was depressed and felt that he was separated from God. That is probably how Jesus felt when He was on the cross. Jesus was surrounded by His enemies and accusers. As He accepted our sins, Jesus felt separated from God.
Sometimes we feel depressed, and we think no one understands how we feel. But Jesus knows how we feel. People hurt Him. He was even rejected by some of His followers. And finally, Jesus was crucified on a cross.
Are you feeling lonely and depressed today? Jesus understands. Pray and ask God to help you feel His love and forgiveness. Then trust Him to take care of you. —SH*

“God makes us happy. We truly trust his holy name. Lord, we truly worship you! So show your great love for us.” Psalm 33:21-22

PRAYER: God, I am glad that Jesus understands how I feel. Please show me Your love today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
