Psalm 119 (11)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:81-88
Sunday, November 13, 2016

My son was struggling in school and was bullied by some of his classmates. So finally my husband and I made the decision to homeschool my son.
We homeschooled our son for several years until we felt that the school system was ready to help him learn and grow. During those years, we received much criticism from friends and family members about our choice to homeschool. My husband and I felt like the writer of Psalm 119:86. “All your commands can be trusted. Those people are wrong to persecute me. Help me!”
My husband and I prayed about our decision to homeschool and asked God to help us. When people criticized us, we remembered that we were doing what we thought was right. God took care of us and blessed our son.
Ask God to give you wisdom today as you make difficult decisions. Then depend on Him to help you and take care of you. —BH

“Show me your faithful love and let me live. I will do whatever you say.” Psalm 119:88
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for helping my family to serve You. And thank You for guiding my decisions. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—BR

Proverbs (7)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 13:24
Tuesday, November 8, 2016

Our Bible Reading today is just one verse. But it is a very important verse. “If you don't correct your children, you don't love them. If you love them, you will be quick to discipline them.” God wants us to discipline our children. That is how we teach them what is right and what is wrong.
This verse was written by Solomon at a time when shepherds took care of flocks of sheep. A shepherd would use a rod or a staff to help keep the sheep on the right path. With a rod he could tap the sheep on the side to move them from one place to another or keep them from going into a dangerous place. With his staff, the shepherd could rescue a sheep when he fell down or was hurt.
Maybe you are a parent, a grandparent, a youth worker in your church or just a neighbor to children. You can teach children about God and help them grow up loving and serving God. Ask God to help you as you share about Him with the children in your life. —BR

Proverbs (2)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 1:8-19
Wednesday, November 3, 2016

Most parents want good things for their children. So they teach their children how to live a good life. Verse 8 of our Bible Reading for today says, “My son, listen to your father when he corrects you, and don't ignore what your mother teaches you.”
Just as parents want good things for their children, God wants good things for us. In Jeremiah 29:11 God said, “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.” When we pay attention to God's Word through Bible study, we can better understand what God wants us to do. And we also learn that God is always ready to help us.
God will help you today and bring about good things in your life. But remember that sometimes God will correct us, just as a good parent corrects his children and shows them the right way. Pay attention to God’s teaching today. He loves you and wants good things for your life. —BR

“We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was his plan.” Romans 8:28

—PD*

Old Testament (3)
Bible Reading: Genesis 29:15-30
Tuesday, September 27, 2016

In our Bible verses for today, we read about Jacob. Jacob loved Rachel. He promised Rachel's father, Laban, that he would work for him for seven years. Then Laban would let Jacob marry Rachel.
But Laban tricked Jacob. He gave Jacob his older daughter, Leah, instead. Laban told Jacob, “Continue for the full week of the marriage ceremony, and I will also give you Rachel to marry. But you must serve me another seven years” (verse 27). Jacob worked faithfully for Laban for fourteen years so that he could marry Rachel. God blessed Jacob with many children and possessions. Many years later, Jesus was born from Jacob’s family line.
All of us go through some hard times in our lives. But no matter what we face, we should always stay faithful to God. Sometimes the devil will tempt us to disobey God. But we should keep focused on God and His Word.
God will be with you today to help you stay faithful to Him! —PD*

Children (1)
Bible Reading: Psalm 127:3-5
Thursday, August 11, 2016

I grew up in a family of five children. Our neighbors across the street had six children. The family who lived on the corner of our block had twelve children! Today large families are not as common as they used to be. But in the past, families needed lots of children to help with the family farm and their home. People thought that large families were a blessing from God.
Verse 3 of our Bible Reading today tells us, “Children are a gift from the Lord, a reward from a mother's womb.” Think about a newborn baby. A baby is a special gift from God. Even a stubborn toddler or a rebellious teenager is a gift from God!
Children are wonderful, but we need to remember that God has given us the great responsibility of teaching them about Him. Thank God today for the precious children in your life. And don’t forget to teach them about their loving heavenly Father. —PD

God's Children
Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:3-6
Saturday, July 30, 2016

When a farm animal dies while giving birth, the farmer must find a way to keep the baby animal alive. Sometimes another mother animal will accept the baby as her own. She will feed the baby and take care of it just like it was her own. Before we know Jesus, we live in sin. We are separated from God. But when we follow and obey Jesus, He forgives our sins. Then God accepts us and makes us His children and gives us His spiritual blessings. Verse 5 of our Bible Reading says, “And before the world was made, God decided to make us his own children through Jesus Christ. That was what God wanted, and it pleased him to do it.” Isn't that wonderful? God wants us to be His children. He wants to give us good things. God wants us to call Him “Father.” Even if you do not have a good relationship with your earthly family, you can have an eternal relationship with God. I am one of God's children. I hope that you are, too. —BF*

—JD*

God's Children
Bible Reading: Romans 8:18-25
Saturday, July 9, 2016

As God's children, we all have sufferings we must endure. These sufferings may be sickness or family problems or persecution. In our Bible Reading today, Paul says that these sufferings are nothing when compared with what God will give us.
God has already given us His Holy Spirit to help and comfort us. But we are waiting for the time when God will “finish making us his own children” (verse 23b). At that time, everything God made will “have the same freedom and glory that belong to God's children” (verse 21b).
Until the time Jesus comes again, we are waiting like a woman waits for the birth of her baby. As a woman goes through childbirth, she suffers pain. In the same way, we will face suffering as we live on earth.
I hope you are looking forward to God's promise of a new home where there is no pain, suffering or crying. Be patient as you wait for Jesus to come again. —JD*

God's Children
Bible Reading: Galatians 4:1-7
Thursday January 7, 2016

My friend, Ida, told me about something special that happened in her life. Ida’s sister died right after giving birth to a son. Ida's brother-in-law had died right before the baby was born, so the baby had no parents.
Ida and her husband, Art, asked a judge to give them custody of the baby boy. The judge gave them custody, and then he did something very special. He gave them the baby's birth certificate. Ida and Art were listed on the certificate as the birth parents — just as if the baby boy was their natural-born son.

God has done something special for us, too. The verses in our Bible Reading tell us what God has done for us. God sent His Son, Jesus, to earth. Why did God to that? “God's purpose was to make us his children” (verse 5b). God is our Heavenly Father. When we obey and follow Jesus, we become God's special children.

Thank God today that you can be one of His children! —JL*

—DF

Simple Prayers (4)
Bible Reading: Judges 13: 1-25
Monday, November 9, 2015

Our Bible verses today tell us that Manoah and his wife were not able to have any children. God’s angel came to Manoah’s wife. He told her that she would have a son. “He will be God’s special person from before he is born. He will save the Israelites from the power of the Philistines” (verse 5b).

Manoah’s wife told her husband what the angel had said. Then Manoah prayed this simple prayer, “Lord, I beg you to send the man of God to us again. We want him to teach us what we should do for the boy who will soon be born” (verse 8b).

It would be wonderful if all parents would pray this simple prayer for their children. Every child is a gift from God. We need God’s wisdom and help to raise our children so they will love and honor God.

Do you have children or grandchildren? Ask God to help you as you raise these children to be God’s servants. God paid attention to Manoah’s prayer, and He will pay attention to you, too. —DF

Patience (2)

Patience (2) Sometimes it is very hard for us to be patient — especially with our children or our grandchildren. They cry, they spill their food, they throw a tantrum or they fight with their siblings.
Psalm 127:3 reminds us that children are a blessing. “Children are a gift from the Lord, a reward from a mother's womb.” And verse 4 of our Bible Reading today gives us advice about our children. “Father, don't make your children angry, but raise them with the kind of teaching and training you learn from the Lord.”
When my son was little, I saw him scolding his teddy bear. He sounded just like I did when I had scolded him earlier in the day. This made me realize that I needed to be more patient with him. I asked God to forgive me for my impatience and to help me be more humble and patient.

God's Children
Bible Reading: Galatians 4:1-8
Sunday, December 28, 2014

God's Children In our verses today, Paul reminds us that we are God's children. We became His children through Jesus. Paul explains, “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, who was born from a woman and lived under the law” (verse 4).
Jesus lived on earth just like every other person. But then He died and rose again. Through Jesus' death, we are made free from our sins. Why did God do this? “God's purpose was to make us his children” (verse 5b).
Our relationship with God is very close and personal. Paul says in verse 6, “Since you are now God's children, he has sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts. The Spirit cries out, ‘Abba, Father.'” This name for God was a word Jewish children used for their fathers. It's like calling God, “Papa” or “Daddy.”
We can be happy because God is our Father. He gives us blessings and always takes care of us. Thank God today that you are one of His children. —BH
“Now you are not slaves like before. You are God's children and you will receive everything he promised his children.” Galatians 4:7
PRAYER: Father, thank You for making me one of Your children. In Jesus' name. Amen.
