Faith Journey (6)
Bible Reading: Romans 12:3-8
Monday, September 12, 2016

January 9, 1992 was a good day for me. I taught a women's class at church in the morning. We talked about the spiritual gifts that God gives us. Our Bible verses today are the ones we studied in that class.
My mom was in that class. She always thought that no one wanted her. But during that lesson she realized that God had given her the gifts of giving and encouraging. She was thrilled to finally feel wanted.
The next day, my mother died of a heart attack. I was overcome with grief. I came home and turned on the radio. The song that was playing on the radio was a Christian song about heaven. God used this song to comfort me and give me peace.
Even through the experience of death, God was helping my faith to grow. I learned that I can always depend on Him — even when I am sad. You can depend on God, too! Let Him guide you and help you grow closer to Him. —DF

“God has shown you his grace in many different ways. So be good servants and use whatever gift he has given you in a way that will best serve each other.” 1 Peter 4:10
PRAYER: God, thank You for Your comfort and peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Different Skills
Bible Reading: Romans 12:1-6a
Saturday, September 3, 2016

We all have something we want to do, but we can't do it. Why? Because we don’t have the skill to do that thing. For example, I would love to paint a beautiful picture, but I do not have the skill to draw and paint well.
Our Bible Reading today tells us that God has given each Christian different skills. But sometimes we become discouraged because people in the world tell us our skills are not important. Paul says in verse 2a, “Don't change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to understand and accept what God wants for you.”
God has given you skills to use in His kingdom. Maybe your skill is teaching a class or signing songs. Maybe your skill is taking care of children or visiting people in hospitals. Or maybe your skill is cleaning the church building or shoveling snow from the sidewalks.
Use your skills to serve God and bless His kingdom today! —KG

“We all have different gifts. Each gift came because of the grace God gave us.” Romans 12:6a
PRAYER: Father, thank You for giving me skills so I can serve You and other Christians. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—LHD

Gifts
Bible Reading: Romans 12:3-8
Wednesday, August 17, 2016

I love to see things that people create. Some people can make fancy wedding cakes. Others can sign beautiful poems. And some people can write and direct an emotional Christmas play. In our Bible Reading, Paul tells us that God has given us different gifts. Some Christians are gifted with teaching, preaching or encouraging. Others can interpret or build a beautiful church building. Some people can prepare a nourishing meal or welcome guests into their home. But Paul reminds us not to become proud of the gifts that God gives us. “Don’t think that you are better than you really are. You must see yourself just as you are. Decide what you are by the faith God has given each of us” (verse 3b). Paul also says that we have these gifts because of God’s grace (verse 6). Whatever gift God has given you, be sure to do your best to use it for God’s kingdom. Find a way to use your gift as you serve God. —LHD

—GT

Good Things
Bible Reading: James 1:12-18
Wednesday, June 29, 2016

 Today and
tomorrow
we will talk
about things
that we
should be
thankful for.
Today we will
talk about being thankful for the good things in our lives.
I have many, many blessings from God. I have a husband and daughter that I love. They are strong Christians. I have a great job at my church. I love to write, and I use this talent to write for the Lord.
Verse 17a of our Bible Reading says, “Everything good comes from God. Every perfect gift is from him.” I know that all the good things in my life are gifts from God.
God will give you good things in your life, too. Verse 12a tells us, “Great blessings belong to those who are tempted and remain faithful! After they have proved their faith, God will give them the reward of eternal life. God promised this to all people who love him.” If we faithfully serve God, He will give us good things in our lives.
Take time today to thank God for all the good things He has given to you. —GT

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for good things. You are wonderful! In Jesus' name. Amen.

You Can't Do It Yourself
Bible Reading: Ephesians 2:4-10
Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Do you enjoy painting, drawing or sewing? Do you like to fix broken things or invent something new? Maybe you are good at do-it-yourself projects around the house. That's wonderful!
But there is one project that you can't do by yourself. No matter how skilled or creative you are, you can't do this project. Do you know what that project is? Salvation! No matter how good you are or how often you go to church or how many times you read through the Bible, you can't save yourself!
Only God's grace can save you from your sin and give you forgiveness. Verse 8 of our Bible Reading today says, “I mean that you have been saved by grace because you believed. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God.”
Please accept God's wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus. Read His Word and obey it! —GT

“All have sinned and are not good enough to share God's divine greatness. They were made right with God by his grace. This is a free gift. They were made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ.” Romans 3:23-24
PRAYER: Father, I know I can't save myself. I accept Your gift of salvation. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Being Like God
Bible Reading: 2 Peter 1:3-8
Sunday, November 30, 2014

Being Like God God wants us to be like Him. In our Bible Reading today, Peter tells us that Jesus has given us some wonderful gifts. With these gifts we “can share in being like God” (verse 4b). Because we have these gifts, we “will escape the ruin that comes to people in the world because of the evil things they want” (verse 4b).
Then Peter says that we should add these things to our lives: faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, patience, devotion to God, kindness and love. If these things are growing in our lives, we “will never fail to be useful to God” (verse 8b).
How can we add these things to our lives? Every day we should look for ways to do good things for other people, to control ourselves when we are tempted to do something wrong, to be patient with other people and to be kind and loving.
I want to do these things and be like God. I hope you want to be like God, too! —DJH*
“If you do all this, you will never fall. And you will be given a very great welcome into the kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a kingdom that never ends.”2 Peter 1:10b-11
PRAYER: God, I want to be more like You every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Proverbs (1)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 1:1-19
Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Proverbs (1) A proverb is a saying that teaches us something wise and good. Every culture has its own proverbs. Most proverbs are true and are useful for our lives.
Solomon was the wisest man in all history. He wrote down many proverbs and wise sayings. Some of these proverbs are in the Old Testament book of Proverbs. 1 Kings 3:1-15 tells us how Solomon received his wisdom. Solomon's great wisdom was truly a gift from God.
Verse 7 of our Bible Reading shows us that Solomon knew that his wisdom came from God. “Knowledge begins with fear and respect for the Lord, but stubborn fools hate wisdom and refuse to learn.” We can find that knowledge when we respect God and keep our eyes on Him.
Do you want God's peace today? Then pay attention to the wisdom that God gives and follow His ways. —KP
“Fools die because they refuse to follow wisdom. They are content to follow their foolish ways, and that will destroy them. But those who listen to me will live in safety and comfort. They will have nothing to fear.” Proverbs 1:32-33
PRAYER: Father, I want to pay attention to You and follow You today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—NM

Apple Trees
Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11
Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Apple Trees I was driving by an apple orchard. I noticed that the trees were very different. Some had tall and straight branches, while others were old and gnarled with twisting limbs. The apple trees were different, but I did see one thing that was the same. All of the trees were producing juicy red apples! The age or appearance of the trees didn't seem to matter. They were all making fruit.
It is the same in the church. Maybe a man can't preach a sermon, but his smile can encourage others. Maybe a woman with arthritis can't stand to sing a song, but her teaching helps others understand God's Word.
In our Bible verses, Paul talks about the spiritual gifts that God gives to believers. “Something from the Spirit can be seen in each person. The Spirit gives this to each one to help others” (verse 7). Every person in the church may look different, but God has given each one gifts to grow His church.
Use your gifts to serve God today. —NM

—DVH*

The Church
Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:21-30
Tuesday, September 9, 2014

The Church God calls every Christian to serve Him. God gives each of us abilities so that He can grow His church. God expects us to work together to spread the Good News about Jesus.
In our Bible verses today, Paul compares the church to marriage. Verse 27 talks about this. “Christ died so that he could give the church to himself like a bride in all her beauty. He died so that the church could be holy and without fault, with no evil or sin or any other thing wrong with it.”
If the church is to be holy and without sin, we need to do some things. Verse 21 says that we should serve each other. And in verse 29 Paul says that we should take care of each other.
What are you doing in the church? Are you sharing your talents? Are you serving and helping other Christians? Show your love and respect for Jesus by serving His church. —DVH*

Tabitha
Bible Reading: Acts 9:36-43
Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Tabitha Our Bible verses tell us about Tabitha. She had a wonderful talent from God. Tabitha was able to sew and make clothes for other people. This was how Tabitha showed God’s love to other people.
Our Bible verses also tell us that Tabitha died. All of the people who knew Tabitha were very sad. Tabitha’s friends asked Peter to help her. With God’s help, Peter was able to raise Tabitha from the dead. Because of this miracle, many more people believed in Jesus.
What is your talent? Can you sew? Cook? Fix things? Write? Clean? God has given you special skills and abilities that you can use to serve others. Your talents may seem ordinary, but God will help you use them to show love to other people.
I hope you use your talents to help others today. —GT
