Christmas Sacrifices (3)
Bible Reading: Luke 2:1-7
Wednesday, December 21, 2016

Augustus Caesar ordered all people to go to their hometowns to be counted. Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem, which was Joseph’s hometown.
There must have been a lot of people in Bethlehem. Our Bible verses tell us that when Joseph and Mary arrived there, “the guest room was full” (verse 7b). So Joseph and Mary stayed in a place where cattle lived. We do not know if this place was a barn or a cave, but verse 7 tells us that Mary laid baby Jesus “in a box where cattle are fed.”
We do not know who found Joseph and Mary a place to stay. It may have been the owner of the guest house. But that person had to sacrifice their time to find a place where Mary could give birth to her baby.
This may have seemed like a small sacrifice. But sometimes God asks us to make small sacrifices. These small sacrifices are still important to God’s plan for our lives. Are you willing to really follow and obey God today? —GT

“And don't forget to do good and to share what you have with others, because sacrifices like these are very pleasing to God.” Hebrews 13:16
PRAYER: Father, I am willing to serve and obey You today. In His name. Amen.

—ECW

Love Your Enemies
Bible Reading: Matthew 5:43-48
Monday, November 14, 2016

In 1981, President Ronald Reagan was shot by John Hinckley, Jr. Several years later, President Reagan said that he had forgiven Mr. Hinckley and wanted to meet with him in person to tell him about his forgiveness. I think that is a good example of what Jesus talked about in our Bible Reading today. In verses 43 and 44 Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies. Pray for those who treat you badly.” Jesus went on to add, “...if you are nice only to your friends, you are no better than anyone else. Even the people who don't know God are nice to their friends” (verse 47).
Sometimes it is very hard to forgive our enemies and show them kindness. But that is what God wants us to do. Think about someone today who needs to receive your love and forgiveness. Ask God to help you show kindness to that person. —ECW

“But I say to you people who are listening to me, love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you...Pray for the people who are mean to you.” Luke 6:27-28
PRAYER: Father, thank You for filling me with Your living water every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—JK

Weather (10)
Bible Reading: Exodus 19:16-20
Tuesday, August 9, 2016

I did not sleep well last night. We had a bad thunderstorm, and there was lots of thunder. Even if you are deaf and have never heard thunder, you have probably felt the vibrations that thunder produces.
Thunder has always been a symbol of great power. Our Bible verses today tell us about the time when Moses met God on Mount Sinai. It was at this time that God gave Moses His commands for the Israelites. “On the morning of the third day, a thick cloud came down onto the mountain. There was thunder and lightning and a very loud sound from a trumpet” (verse 16). Then verse 19b says, “Every time Moses spoke to God, God answered him with a voice like thunder.”
God is very loving and kind. But He is also great and powerful. We can read about His great power in the Bible. And we can see God's power today through creation. Take time today to look at the world. Think about God's power and thank Him for His goodness. —JK

Jesus Cares
Bible Reading: Mark 6:30-44
Thursday, February 4, 2016

Frank E. Graeff lived in the early 1900s. He was known as the “sunshine minister” because he was so kind to everyone. He wrote many hymns and a book.
In one hymn, Mr. Graeff wrote these words, “Oh, yes He cares. I know He cares. His heart is touched with my grief...I know my Savior cares.” These words remind us that Jesus truly cares about us.

Our Bible Reading tells us that Jesus and His followers were very busy and needed to rest. So Jesus got into a boat and led his followers to a quiet place. But many people still followed Jesus. When he got out of the boat, there was a crowd of people waiting for Him.
Did Jesus get mad and send the people away? No! “He felt sorry for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd to care for them” (verse 34b). Jesus cared so much for these people that later He fed them.

It is wonderful to know that Jesus loves us and cares for us. He will take care of you today! —BH

—JK

Children (3)
Bible Reading: 2 Kings 5:1-14
Tuesday, December 29, 2015

I love to be with children. Why? Because children like all people, no matter what color their skin is.
Our Bible Reading today is about a man named Naaman. He was an officer in the army of Aram. Aram's army came into Israel and took some people to be their slaves. The army took a little Israelite girl, and she became a servant to Naaman.
Naaman was sick with leprosy, a terrible skin disease. The little girl told Naaman about the prophet Elisha. She thought that Elisha could heal Naaman's leprosy. That servant girl was a slave, and she was from a different country. But she did not hate Naaman. The little girl wanted Naaman to be healed.

We should be like that little girl. We should not be prejudiced against people who are from a different country or whose skin is a different color. Christians need to remember that God loves all the people in the world.
Share Jesus with everyone you meet today! —JK

My Mistake
Bible Reading: Matthew 7:1-5
Friday, March 15, 2013

My Mistake I bought a new bedspread and put it on my bed. When I went to bed that night, I had a problem with the bedspread. I pulled and yanked and tried to get the bedspread to cover me and keep me warm. I didn’t know what was wrong, but I blamed the company who made the bedspread.
When I woke up the next morning, I carefully looked at the bedspread. I discovered that I had put the bedspread on the wrong way. The bedspread was fine. It was my mistake.
Sometimes we meet people and we misjudge them. This happens when we are not careful to get to know someone. Our Bible Reading today talks about judging. Verse 2 says, “If you judge others, you will be judged the same way you judge them. God will treat you the same way you treat others.”
Be careful when you are tempted to judge someone. Treat them with kindness and understanding. —LL
“Don’t judge others, and God will not judge you. Don’t condemn others, and you will not be condemned. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37

—SAH

My Hands
Bible Reading: Psalm 90:12-17
Saturday, September 29, 2012

My Hands Our hands are a very important part of our bodies. Our hands help us do all kinds of things like holding a steering wheel, scrubbing dishes or planting seeds. And of course, people all over the world use their hands to communicate in sign language.
I serve God as a sign language interpreter. I use my hands so deaf people can share in a worship experience. Before I interpret, I pray God will use my hands to communicate clearly and accurately. Every time I raise my hands to sign, I surrender them to God. I know that God will be kind and help me interpret well.
Verse 17 of our Bible Reading says, “May the things we make with our hands establish us, and may He [God] establish the things we make with our hands.” This psalm was written by Moses. In this verse he asked God to bless the things that the Israelites did with their hands.
What do you do with your hands? Maybe you type on a computer, build a house or hold a baby. Ask God to bless you as you use your hands to serve Him. —SAH

“Lord...be kind to your servants. Fill us with your love every morning. Let us be happy and enjoy our lives.” Psalm 90:13-14

PRAYER: God, bless the things I do today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Helps Me (3)
Bible Reading: Psalm 25:4-10
Tuesday, September 11, 2012

God Helps Me (3) Christian teachers are a real blessing to us. They share their knowledge and guide us to do right things. Christian teachers answer our questions and correct us when we are wrong.
In Psalm 25, the writer was like a student. He wanted to learn from God, the best Teacher of all! So the writer asked God to teach him about life and to lead him. The writer knew that he could depend on God to be his guide every day. He asked God to forget his mistakes and to love him. In verse 8, the writer said, “The Lord is truly good. He teaches sinners the right way to live.”
Are you studying the Bible every day? Are you praying to God and paying attention to His answers? Are you obeying God’s commands? If you are, then God is your Teacher.
If Bible study and prayer are not a regular part of your life, then start today by allowing God to teach you. He is good, fair, kind and true (verses 8-10). —SAH

“I study your teachings very carefully. Why? So I will not sin against you...Teach me your laws. I will talk about all your wise decisions.” Psalm 119:11-13

PRAYER: Father, I want to learn more about You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—JK

...Kindness
Bible Reading: Genesis 13:5-18
Wednesday, August 22, 2012

kindness Kindness is the next thing that the Spirit gives to Christians. When children are small we start teaching them to be kind. “Share your toys.” “Let other people be first.” “Always say ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’”
When I think about kindness, I think about Abraham. Our Bible Reading tells us that Abraham and Lot decided to separate their flocks of animals. Abraham was kind to Lot. Abraham let Lot choose which land he wanted. Lot chose the best land with lots of water. But the place Lot chose was full of sinful people. Lot faced many problems because of his choice.
Abraham stayed in the hills. But God blessed Abraham for his kindness. God promised Abraham much land and many descendents (children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren).
God will bless us for our kindness, too. When we are kind to other people, we please God and we are happy. Start today and be kind to the people you see at work, at home and at school. —JK

—CW*

My Grandma (4)
Bible Reading: 1 Matthew 25:34-40
Thursday, August 2, 2012

My grandmother was a very kind and caring person. I remember when I was young, Grandma brought her parents to live with her. Her parents were very old and in poor health. But Grandma wanted to take care of them.
Sometimes my great-grandparents were grouchy and didn’t feel well. But Grandma was very patient with them. She prepared healthy meals for her parents and made sure that they were warm and comfortable. Grandma really showed that she loved her parents.
In our Bible Reading today, Jesus told a story about how God is pleased with people who are kind and take care of others. When we help sick people or give food and clothes, we are doing those things for Jesus.
Do you know someone who needs help today? Don’t just tell them that you love them. Think of ways that you can show them your love. —CW*
