Jesus (9)
Bible Reading: Luke 8:22-25
Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Jesus created the earth and everything in it. That is wonderful! In our Bible Reading today, Jesus proved that He is the Master over water when He calmed the sea. “He gave a command to the wind and the waves. The wind stopped, and the lake became calm” (verse 24b). Yes, Jesus is truly powerful.
The sun, moon, stars and water have no choice. They must obey Jesus. But we have a choice. We can choose to make Jesus our Master or choose the devil as our master. Jesus could force us to follow Him, but instead, He allows us to choose Him as our Master.
Jesus can do anything He wants. That's why He gives us the freedom to choose Him to be the ruler over our lives. Jesus would not be happy if He had to force us to follow Him. But when we choose to make Him our Master, He is very happy!
So make Jesus happy, and make yourself happy, too! Choose to follow Jesus. —PK

“But maybe you don't want to serve the Lord. You must choose for yourselves today. Today you must decide who you will serve.” Joshua 24:15a
PRAYER: Father, I want Jesus to be my Master. Help me to choose Him today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Honor God
Bible Reading: Romans 1:18-23
Monday, July 11, 2016

In our world today, many people do bad things and do not honor God. But this is not the first generation to reject God. For thousands of years, people have refused to believe in God.
In our Bible verses, Paul tells us that God has always shown Himself to people through His creation. All we need to do is look around us and we can understand how powerful and creative God is. “But since the beginning of the world, those things have been easy for people to understand. They are made clear in what God has made” (verse 20b). Paul ends that verse by saying, “So people have no excuse for the evil they do.”
Every day we have a choice. We can look at creation and honor God for what He has done. Or we can ignore God and trust things in the world.
Choose today to honor God and let Him lead you every day. —JP*

“God shows his anger from heaven against all the evil and wrong things that people do...This makes God angry because they have been shown what he is like. Yes, God has made it clear to them.” Romans 1:18-19
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to honor You. Thank You for making me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Proverbs (12)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 12:18-28
Sunday, November 2, 2014

Proverbs (12) Every day we see people who are doing good things and people who are doing bad things. Sometimes it seems like people are doing more bad things than good things.
We may even think that the world is worse than it used to be. But ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God, the world has been filled with people who chose to do bad things. The writer of Ecclesiastes 1:9a said, “All things continue the way they have been since the beginning. The same things will be done that have always been done.”
You have a choice today — to do good things or to do bad things. Sometimes it is easier to do bad things, but we will be happier if we choose to obey God. Our Bible verses today encourage us to make good choices and do good things: “Be wise and your words will heal” (verse 18), “Those who plan for peace bring happiness” (verse 20), “Those who work hard will be put in charge of others” (verse 24), and “A kind word makes you happy” (verse 25).
Ask God to help you be wise and make good choices today! —KP
“Along the path of goodness there is life; that is the way to live forever.” Proverbs 12:28
PRAYER: Father, I need Your wisdom and strength today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Proverbs (2)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 2:1-11
Thursday, October 23, 2014

Proverbs (2) We read about people who have made bad choices in their lives. We may wonder, “Why did that person break the law? He knew he would go to jail” or “Why did she trust that bad man who said he loved her?” People often make wrong choices because doing the wrong thing looks good to them at the time.
Solomon encourages us in verse 9 of our Bible verses to always do what is right. “If you listen to him, you will understand what is just and fair and how to do what is right.” Does that mean that God never wants us to have any fun? No, it means that God wants to protect us. He wants us to not make bad choices and suffer the consequences.
Think about the choices you may have to make today. Ask God to give you wisdom to help you make the right choices. —KP
“The Lord is the source of wisdom; knowledge and understanding come from his mouth. He gives good advice to honest people and shields those who do what is right.” Proverbs 2:6-7
PRAYER: Lord, Your ways are always good and right. Thank You for Your protection. Guide me to make right choices today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Wrong Way
Bible Reading: 1 Peter 2:21-25
Monday, July 22 2013

The Wrong Way I am a member of a small congregation. At our last Christmas program, some of the smaller children were dressed as lambs. An adult, dressed as a shepherd, carried a one-year-old child dressed as a lamb. Another lamb was two-year-old Brett. He was a good lamb, but several times during the program this little lamb went the wrong way and wandered out into the audience.
Brett reminds me of some Christians today. Just as Brett went the wrong way, these Christians wander away from God and out into the world full of sin. In verse 25 of our Bible Reading today, Peter says, “You were like sheep that went the wrong way. But now you have come back to the Shepherd and Protector of your lives.”
Jesus is our Shepherd and Protector. He wants us to make the right choices. But sometimes we go the wrong way. Jesus is always watching us and wants us to ask Him for forgiveness. Be sure that you are going the right way today. Let Jesus lead and protect you. —NM
“We had all wandered away like sheep. We had gone our own way. And yet the Lord put all our guilt on him.” Isaiah 53:6
PRAYER: Dear Father, please forgive me and help me focus on You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Loving and Kind
Bible Reading: Psalm 81:1-16
Tuesday June 4, 2013

Loving and Kind God is loving and kind. He never will force us to accept Him or obey His laws. He allows us to do what we want. If we want to follow other gods, He will let us. If we want to follow our own plan instead of His, He won’t interfere. We can stay close to God or stay far away from Him.
Often we choose to go our own way and not follow God. In verses 13-14 of our Bible Reading, God says, “If my people would listen to me and would live the way I want, then I would defeat their enemies. I would punish those who cause them trouble.”
God wants to show us the great things He will do if we obey Him. But He is loving and kind, so He lets us choose what we will do.
Every day we must choose to follow our way or God’s way. Our way usually leads to temporary pleasure. But God’s way leads to eternal life. Which way will you choose today? —SH*
“But my people did not listen to me. Israel did not obey me. So I let them go their own stubborn way and do whatever they wanted.” Psalm 81:11-12
PRAYER: God, sometimes I am stubborn. Help me choose to follow You today and every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Which Way?
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:33-40
Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Which Way? Sometimes a farmer will set up a maze built out of hay bales. Then he will invite neighborhood children to find their way through the maze.
Some mazes are simple and only need a few turns to get through them. But others are difficult to maneuver through. As children go through the maze, they try to remember the dead ends and get out of the maze as fast as they can.
Life is like a maze with many choices along the way. When we make wrong decisions, we may end up at a “dead end.” Then we become confused and frustrated. So it is important that we use God’s Word, the Bible, to help us make the right choices in life. That’s where we can read God’s commands. Verse 35 of our Bible Reading says, “Help me follow your commands, because that’s what makes me happy.”
Let God’s Word help you make right choices and show you which way to go in your life. —BL
“Lord, you do what is right, and your decisions are fair. The rules you have given us are right. We can trust them completely.” Psalm 119:137-138
PRAYER: God, teach me to rely on Your Word to help me make right choices. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
