Good News
Bible Reading: Romans 1:1-4
Saturday, November 26, 2016

In our Bible verses today, Paul said that his work was to tell the Good News. “The Good News is about God's Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (verse 3).
As Christians, our job is to tell the Good News, too. But where should we go to tell the Good News about Jesus? Look at the word “NEWS.” The “N” could stand for North, the “E” for East, the “W” for West and the “S” for South. We should go everywhere — in all directions — to tell other people about Jesus and His wonderful plan of salvation. Maybe you can go to neighbors who live close to you. Maybe you can go to another town. Or maybe you can go on a mission trip to another country. Wherever you go, you can share about Jesus.
When Jesus was ready to leave the earth and return to heaven, He told His disciples, “So go and make followers of all people in the world” (Matthew 28:19a) That command is for you, too. Where will you share about Jesus today? —ST*

“God promised long ago through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures to give this Good News to his people.” Romans 1:2
PRAYER: Dear God, I want to tell people the Good News about Jesus today. In His name. Amen.

Jesus' Life (10)
Bible Reading: Matthew 28:16-20
Saturday, October 22, 2016

Jesus told His eleven special followers to go to a mountain in Galilee. On that mountain, they worshiped Jesus. Our Bible verses tell us that while Jesus was talking to His followers, He gave them a special command. Jesus said, “So go and make followers of all people in the world. Baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything that I have told you to do” (verses 19-20a).
This command is for Christians today, too. But sometimes it is hard to tell other people about Jesus. When we are scared or discouraged about sharing the Gospel with others, the Holy Spirit helps us. He is our comforter, counselor and helper in our Christian life.
Look for opportunities today to share the Good News about Jesus with someone. Ask the Holy Spirit to help and guide you. —BC*

“But the Holy Spirit will come on you and give you power. You will be my witnesses. You will tell people everywhere about me — in Jerusalem, in the rest of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world.” Acts 1:8
PRAYER: Father, thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to help me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Faith Journey (5)
Bible Reading: Acts 2:36-41
Sunday, September 11, 2016

When my husband and I became Christians, we were so excited to share Jesus with our family and friends! My brother and his friend came to visit us from California. We told them about Jesus. They both became Christians, found Christian women to become their wives and made their homes near us.
My parents moved close to us, too. I did not know if they would become Christians, but I prayed that God would help me tell them about Jesus. My husband's parents never went to church, but we prayed that they would also believe. When my father-in-law had a heart attack, the first thing he said after his surgery was that he wanted to become a Christian. My husband had the pleasure of baptizing both his parents and my parents.
New Christians are excited to tell others about Jesus. In our Bible verses for today, we read about the first church in Jerusalem. Because these people shared Jesus with others, the church grew and grew! —DF

—CS

Share the Good News
Bible Reading: Acts 1:6-11
Sunday, July 3, 2016

Our Bible verses today tell us that Jesus met with His apostles one last time before He ascended into heaven. Jesus gave these men a plan for sharing the Good News of salvation with the whole world. Jesus said, “You will tell people everywhere about me — in Jerusalem, in the rest of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world” (verse 8b).
You can use this same plan to help you share about Jesus with other people. Jerusalem was the city where the apostles lived. That is like the neighborhood where you live. Judea was the area around Jerusalem. That is similar to the state where you live. Samaria was close to Judea. The people there were from a different culture. That is like people you meet who are from a different background or culture. And every part of the world means people in foreign countries or on a mission field.
There are so many people — near and far — who need to know about Jesus. Share the Good News with someone today! —CS

Good News for All
Bible Reading: Acts 8:4-8, 14-17
Friday, June 24, 2016

When Jesus left this earth, He gave His disciples a huge responsibility. He gave them the job of sharing the Good News about salvation with all people.
In our Bible Reading today, we learn that Philip healed some Samaritan people and told them about Jesus. The Jews and Samaritans had been enemies for many years. Most Jews would not even associate with a Samaritan.
In these verses we read that the message about Jesus can overcome social barriers. When Jesus' disciples heard that the Samaritans had accepted the news about Jesus, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. They “prayed for the Samaritan believers to receive the Holy Spirit” (verse 15).
Today we have the job of sharing the Good News about Jesus with all people. But maybe there are some people who are different from you or maybe you just don't like them. Ask God to help you break down these barriers so that you can share Jesus with everyone you meet. —DF

—JK

Bible Reading: Matthew 3:1-6
Monday, May 16, 2016

Our Bible Reading today is about John the Baptizer.
John lived in the desert. Verse 4 tells us, “John's clothes were
made from camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. For food, he ate locusts and wild honey.”
John wore clothes made from camel's hair. In Bible times, camels were used for transportation in desert areas. A camel can shed up to five pounds of hair each spring. This hair is usually tan and can be made into cloth for clothing, carpets or tents. Clothing made from camel's hair is well-insulated and provides protection from heat.
John did not wear fancy clothes or eat fancy foods. Why? Because John's goal in life was to prepare people for the coming of Jesus.
He knew that doing what God wanted him to do was much more important than worrying about his clothes and food.
As Christians, obeying God and sharing the Good News about Jesus should be our most important goals. Focus on serving God today! —JK

—DF

Seven Churches (2)
Bible Reading: Revelation 1:9-20
Saturday, April 2, 2016

The apostle John was on the island of Patmos when he received a message from God. This is a small island that is only about 25 square miles in area. John says that he was on the island because he was “faithful to God's message and to the truth of Jesus” (verse 9b). Tradition says that John was sent there because some people did not want him to preach about Jesus.
Jesus told John to write down His messages to the seven churches in Asia. We can read these messages in the book of Revelation. John begins by talking about Jesus. He reminds these Christians that “Jesus is the one who loves us and has made us free from our sins with his blood sacrifice” (verse 5b). Then John talks about the time when Jesus will come again.
Finally, John gives a message to each of the seven churches. These messages contain warnings. If we pay attention to these warnings, we can learn more about God's plan for His church. —DF

—JK

Finally Paul reached the city of Rome. Paul was a prisoner. Our Bible Reading tells us that in Rome “Paul was allowed to live alone. But a soldier stayed with him to guard him” (verse 16b).
It was God's plan for Paul to be in Rome. Even though Paul was a prisoner, he continued to share about Jesus with the people he met. Paul did not let his circumstances keep him from talking about Jesus. Verses 30 and 31 say, “Paul stayed two full years in his own rented house. He welcomed all the people who came and visited him. He told them about God's kingdom and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ. He was very bold, and no one tried to stop him from speaking.”

Maybe you are facing bad circumstances in your life. Maybe you are sick or having family or financial problems. You can still be a missionary for Jesus. In fact, through your bad circumstances, God may help you meet people who need to know about Him. —JK

—JK

Bible Reading: Acts 16:16-40

The next missionary we will talk about is Paul. Paul traveled to many cities to tell people about Jesus. The book of Acts tells us about Paul's travels.
One time Paul was traveling with Silas. They removed a demon from a young girl. The men who owned this girl became upset. They had Paul and Silas put in jail. While Paul and Silas were in jail, they prayed and sang praises to God. “Suddenly there was an earthquake...All the doors of the jail opened” (verse 26). Paul and Silas were freed from their chains.
The jailer was scared that Paul and Silas had escaped. But the jailer saw that Paul and Silas had not escaped. He took Paul and Silas to his home. Paul and Silas told the jailer and his family about Jesus. Verse 33b says that “the jailer and all his people were baptized.”

Bible Reading: Luke 4:40-44
Tuesday, February 23, 2016

The word “mission” means a special job. So a missionary is a person who does a special job. The Bible tells us about many people who were missionaries. These people told others the Good News about Jesus. Today and for the next few days, we will look at some of these missionaries.

The first missionary we will talk about is Jesus. Jesus used His whole life to share the Good News with other people. This Good News was that He would die for sinners and then rise again.
Jesus shared the Good News in several ways. First, Jesus did many miracles that showed He was powerful and that He was truly God's Son. Second, Jesus taught about God's plan for His life on earth. Jesus told His followers that His job was to come and die for sinners. In verse 43b of our Bible Reading Jesus said, “I must tell the Good News about God's kingdom to other towns too. This is why I was sent.”
Jesus wants you to know the Good News, too. Study the Bible and learn more about Jesus' sacrifice for you. —JK
