Proverbs (9)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 20:24
Thursday, November 10, 2016

When I was young, my family and I traveled a lot by bus. We had to walk from our house to the bus stop to get on the bus. As we went to the bus stop, we walked beside a creek. Sometimes my parents would stop and let me play in the creek. I would find bits of grass, paper and sticks and float them in the water. Often these bits would get caught on a stone and create a little dam. Then the water had to find a different way to continue flowing downstream.
Our Bible Reading today says, “The Lord guides our steps, and we never know where he will lead us.” Sometimes the water flowing in the creek near my house had to turn and follow a different path. In the same way, God leads us to do different things in life. When we become old, we may look back on our lives and be amazed at how God has led us and blessed us.
Live how God wants you to live today. He will bless you and guide you to serve in His kingdom. —BR

Proverbs (8)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 19:16-29
Wednesday, November 9, 2016

When I was a child, I held the map as my dad drove my family to our vacation destination. I would tell him to turn right or left to find the lake or our campsite. Dad trusted me to direct him to the best place for our vacation. Just as I had a map that gave us directions to our campsite, God has a plan for each of us. We need to trust God to lead us according to His plan. Our Bible verses today give us advice on how we can follow God's plan. These verses talk about our relationship with Him and about our relationship with other people.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “People can plan what they want to do, but it is the Lord who guides their steps.” It is important for us to make decisions about our families and our jobs. But it is more important that we trust God to lead us according to His plan.
Think about your life today. Are you depending on your own knowledge? Or are you depending on God to lead and protect you? —BR

“People might make many plans, but what the Lord says is what will happen.” Proverbs 19:21

Psalm 119 (1)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:1-8
Thursday, September 1, 2016

Over the next few months, I will be sharing some thoughts from Psalms, chapter 119.
Psalm 119 emphasizes the importance of God and His Word, the Bible. Verse 2 of our Bible Reading today tells us that people who follow God's rules “seek him with all their heart.” The next six verses tell us how these people seek God. These people follow God’s ways (verse 3) and obey them (verse 4). These people also want to be more faithful to God (verse 5) and to praise Him (verse 7).
The writer of this psalm ends this section by saying, “I will obey your laws, so please don't leave me!” We should always want God to be close to us. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed and wonder if God is really with us. But our Bible verses assure us that if we seek God, He will be with us.
Do you want to serve God? Do you want God to be close to you? Then study His Word and be faithful to Him. —BH

—JK

When my children were little, we liked to look at clouds. Some looked like an elephant or a crocodile. Others looked like the face of a person or a flower. I have seen some awesome clouds in my life. But I think nothing can compare with the cloud talked about in our Bible Reading today. These verses tell us that God visibly led the Israelites out of Egypt on their journey to a new land. “During the day, he used a tall cloud to lead the people. And during the night, he used a tall column of fire to lead the way” (verse 21b).
That cloud must have been very large and very special. It would have been easy for the Israelites to follow it. Sometimes I wish that God would use a special cloud to help me know which way I should go in life. But He doesn't do that! Instead, I have God's Word, the Bible, to be my guide through life. Follow the Bible today. God's Word will help you stay on the right path. —JK

Christian Friends
Bible Reading: Proverbs 12:22-28
Saturday, July 23, 2016

The other day I realized I had forgotten to water my favorite plant that week. I quickly got a cup of water and poured it on the plant. Soon the plant started to come back to life.
This plant helps me remember that I need good Christian friends to help me stay spiritually strong. Just as a plant needs water, I need friends who will help me live close to God. When I have a bad day or I am depressed, I need Christian friends to help me remember the joys and blessings that God has given to me.
In our Bible verses today, the writer tells us several things that will help us as we try to live for God every day. Verse 26a says, “Good people are careful about choosing their friends.” You should not choose bad people to be your close friends. Instead you should choose Christians to be your best friends. They will help you guard your heart against the devil's attacks.
Thank your Christian friends today for helping you stay on the way that leads to God. —KG

Bible Animals (4)
Bible Reading: Psalm 18:30-33
Wednesday, May 18, 2016

When I lived in the country, I
would often see deer in our yard.
I always enjoyed watching them jump over fences. Deer are very graceful and steady animals.
The writer of Psalm 18 compares himself to a deer. He says that God had shown him the right path in life and kept him steady on that path. “He makes my feet as steady as those of a deer. Even on steep mountains he keeps me from falling” (verse 33).
If we truly want to obey God, we will follow His plan for our life. The way we can know God's plan is to read and study the Bible. The New Testament is filled with instructions from God. 2 Timothy 3:16 tells us, “All Scripture is given by God. And all Scripture is useful for teaching and for showing people what is wrong in their lives. It is useful for correcting faults and teaching the right way to live.”
Do you want to be like a steady deer? Take time every day to read the Bible and to ask God to help you follow His plan for your life. —JK

-JK

Fog
Bible Reading: Genesis 12:1-9
Monday, August 3, 2015

Fog It was very foggy this morning when I drove to Deaf Missions. Sometimes the fog would lift a little and I could see the road ahead. But other times I could only see a few feet ahead of the car. I don’t like driving in fog. It is scary, and it can be dangerous.
There have been times in my life when I have felt like I was surrounded by fog. These were times when I faced problems and I wasn’t sure what God wanted me to do. All I could do was depend on Him to lead me and show me the right way.
Maybe that is how Abraham felt in our Bible verses today. God told Abraham to take his family and possessions and move to a new home far away. Abraham did not know where he was going, but he trusted God to lead him every step of the way.
Ask God to lead you today. Trust Him like Abraham did. —JK

-SAH

The Only Way
Bible Reading: John 14:1-8
Saturday, June 27, 2015

The Only Way My husband and I are retired. So we spend a lot of time traveling and exploring new places. When we are traveling, we don’t use maps. We use the GPS (Global Positioning System) on our cell phones. The GPS shows us different ways to get where we want to go.
Maybe you have lost your way in life and you don’t know what you should do. You should try another GPS — God’s Plan of Salvation! But this is different than the GPS on my cell phone. God’s Plan of Salvation shows us that there is only one way to God. That way is through His Son, Jesus.
In our Bible verses, Thomas asked Jesus how he could know the way to God. Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me” (verse 6).
The only way to God is to follow and obey Jesus. He died on the cross for you. Trust Him today to forgive you and lead you. —SAH

—LZ*

Goals in Life (5)
Bible Reading: Psalm 119:33-40
Saturday, March 14, 2015

Goals in Life (5) Every year the town where I live has a huge garage sale. Many people take part in this sale. Some people only have worthless things to sell. After going to the garage sale for a few years, it is easy to learn who has useful things for sale and who has junk.
Verses 37 and 38 of our Bible Reading talk about worthless things. “Don't let me look at worthless things. Help me to live your way. Do what you promised me, your servant, so that people will respect you.” Many things people do in life help them make lots of money. But a person who serves God thinks that doing these things is not important. Making lots of money does not help us become closer to God.
We should not want God's blessings so that other people will pay attention to us. We should want God's blessings so that other people will respect God and learn that He loves them. Christians should not waste their time collecting worthless things. Instead, they should be doing things that will bring them closer to God. —LZ*

Holy Tent (9)
Bible Reading: Exodus 25:10-22
Friday, March 6, 2015

Holy Tent (9) The most important furnishing in the Holy Tent was the Box of the Agreement. It was made of acacia wood, covered with gold and was 3.75 feet long, 2.25 feet wide and 2.25 feet high. The Box had a lid called the mercy-cover. On the ends of the mercy-cover were two golden angels. Here the High Priest sprinkled blood once a year.
Hebrews 9:4 lists the things that were inside the Box of Agreement. They were: a jar of manna, Aaron’s rod and the Ten Commandments. These three things reminded the Israelites that God provided for them, that He was powerful and that He protected them.
Sprinkling blood on the Box of the Agreement was the way the Israelites could have their sins forgiven. In the New Testament, Jesus told His disciples that the only way to God was through Him. John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.’”
