Holy Tent (3)
Bible Reading: Exodus 27:1-8
Saturday, February 28, 2015

Holy Tent (3) The first piece of furniture in the courtyard was the altar for burnt offerings. It was made from acacia wood and covered with bronze. It was 7.5 feet by 4.5 feet, and it was the most-used furnishing in the Holy Tent. The priests used this altar every day to offer sacrifices to God.
God wanted to be near the Israelites. But first, the people had to have their sins forgiven. So God required the Israelites to bring animals to be sacrificed on the altar for burnt offerings. Only a perfect animal was good enough to be sacrificed here. God accepted the sacrifice of animals as a way to forgive the sins of the people.
When Jesus died on the cross, His sacrifice covered all sins — past, present and future. After that time, no animal sacrifices were needed. Jesus is our perfect sacrifice. When we follow and obey Him, His blood forgives our sins and brings us close to God. —JK
“God gave Jesus as a way to forgive people’s sins through their faith in him. God can forgive them because the blood sacrifice of Jesus pays for their sins.” Romans 3:25

Holy Tent (2)
Bible Reading: Exodus 25:1-9
Friday, February 27, 2015

Holy Tent (2) In our Bible verses, God begins to tell Moses how to build the Holy Tent. The Holy Tent was made from very expensive materials — gold, silver, bronze, special woods and fine cloths. Today the materials used in building the Holy Tent would cost over one million dollars!
How did the Israelites gather the materials? Verse 2 says that the people gave willingly. In fact, the people gave so much that later Moses had to tell them to stop giving (Exodus 35:22-36:5)!
The Holy Tent and its courtyard were in the center of where the Israelites camped. The twelve tribes of Israel camped around this courtyard each time they stopped. Inside the courtyard was a structure that was 45 feet by 15 feet. This was divided into the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place. Soon we will talk about the furnishings in these places.
God’s plan for the Holy Tent was perfect. God has a plan for your life, too. Give your life to Him today. —JK
“The people will build a holy place for me. Then I can live among them.” Exodus 25:8

—JK

Holy Tent (1)
Bible Reading: Exodus 6:2-8
Thursday, February 26, 2015

Holy Tent (1) In our Bible Reading today, God promised the Israelites that He would free them from slavery in Egypt, be their God and bring them to a new land. That is what the entire book of Exodus is about. Chapters 1-18 tell us how God freed the Israelites from slavery. In chapters 19-24, God makes the Israelites His special people and gives them His laws. Finally, in chapters 25-40, God commands the Israelites to build a Holy Tent where He will come and live among them.
The Holy Tent was a movable meeting place that God told Moses to build. God wanted a place where He could fellowship and communicate with the Israelites. The Holy Tent is sometimes called the Tabernacle or Tent of Meeting. For the next nine days we will look at God’s pattern for the Holy Tent and its furnishings.
God has always provided a way for people to be close to Him. He wants you to be close to Him today. Thank God for His wonderful plan of salvation. —JK

—SL

Special Relationship
Bible Reading: 1 John 2:1-6
Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Special Relationship Recently I became a grandfather for the first time. My little granddaughter is so precious! Even though she is only a few days old, I love her and know that we will always have a special relationship.
Family relationships are special, but my relationship with Jesus is even more special to me. Our Bible verses today talk about this special relationship with Jesus. Verse 1 tells us that Jesus is our helper. Jesus helps us by defending us before God. And verse 2a says, “Jesus is the way our sins are taken away.”
Our relationships with people on earth are important. But it is even more important that we have a relationship with Jesus. Jesus died for us and accepted the punishment for our sins. If we follow and obey Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we will live forever with Him. That is very special!
Enjoy your family relationships. But remember that Jesus is most important. Love Him and serve Him today. —SL

“If we live in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood sacrifice of Jesus, God’s Son, washes away every sin and makes us clean.” 1 John 1:7b

Wonderful God
Bible Reading: Psalm 36:5-10
Tuesday, February 24, 2015

Wonderful God When my children were young, we learned about the oceans of the world. We studied the different oceans and what is in them. We learned about all kinds of sea creatures and plant life. I think that I learned as much as they did!
One of the things that really fascinated me was the depth of the oceans. The average depth of the world’s oceans is about 14,000 feet. That is really deep. But there is a place in the Pacific Ocean called the Mariana Trench. There the ocean is 36,200 feet deep. Wow!
In our Bible Reading today, the Psalm writer talks about God’s faithfulness, goodness and fairness. In verse 6b he says, “Your fairness is deeper than the deepest ocean.” God is fair and just. That’s why He’s such a wonderful God!
God is fair and loving. He decides what is right and expects us to obey Him. Thank God today for loving you and offering you His gift of salvation through Jesus. —JK

“The truth is that God does no wrong. God All-Powerful is always fair. God is not only powerful, but he is fair.” Job 34:12,17a
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You are so powerful and awesome! Thank You for being fair and just. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—JF

Lost (3)
Bible Reading: Luke 15: 11-24
Monday, February 23, 2015

Lost (3) The third story that Jesus told is my favorite. This story is about a son who took his family money and went away. Then this son wasted all his money “living like a fool” (verse 13b). When all his money was gone, the only job he could find was feeding pigs. This son was so hungry that he wanted to eat the pigs’ food!
Finally the son decided to go home to his father and ask for forgiveness. “While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him coming and felt sorry for him. So he ran to him and hugged and kissed him” (verse 20). The son did not deserve his father’s forgiveness, but the father accepted him back as his son.
We have all sinned and disobeyed God. We don’t deserve God’s forgiveness. But God still offers us His love and mercy. No matter how bad you think your sins are, God can forgive you and make you part of His family.
Turn to God today — He loves you and will forgive all your sins. —JF

—JF

Lost (2)
Bible Reading: Luke 15:8-10
Sunday, February 22, 2015

Lost (2) Jesus continued to tell another story about something that was lost. This time the story was about a woman who had ten silver coins, but she lost one. Probably these ten coins were very important to this woman. Maybe this was all the money she had. So when she lost one coin, she was very upset.
The woman cleaned her house and looked for the lost coin. She continued to search until she found it. Then she did what the shepherd did in our story yesterday — she told her friends and neighbors the good news. She said (verse 9), “Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!”
Then Jesus talks again about a lost sinner. He said that when someone changes and turns to God, the angels in heaven are very happy.
Think about the time when you became a Christian. Did you know that the angels rejoiced with you? Thank God today for His wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus. —JF

-JF

Lost (1)
Bible Reading: Luke 15:1-7
Saturday, February 21, 2015

Lost (1) Today and for the next two days, we will look at three stories that Jesus told in Luke, chapter 15. All of these stories tell about something or someone who was lost. In the first story, Jesus told about a shepherd with 100 sheep. Then the shepherd discovered that one sheep was missing. So he searched for the sheep until he found it.
What happened next? The shepherd was very happy that he had found the lost sheep. He told his friends and neighbors, “Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep” (verse 6b).
Then Jesus says that this story is like one sinner who decides to repent of his sins and change his life. When that happens, there is rejoicing in heaven. “There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 people who don't need to change” (verse 7b).
We, too, should be happy when someone becomes a Christian. Do you know someone who is a new Christian? Tell them that you are happy for them and encourage them to continue to follow Jesus. —JF

Life is Busy
Bible Reading: Luke 10:38-42
Friday, February 20, 2015

Life is Busy My life is very busy. Sometimes I have many things to do during the day. I focus on other people and the things I must do. Then I don’t have time to pray or to read my Bible.
Our Bible Reading today tells us about two sisters, Mary and Martha. When Jesus came to their house, Martha was busy preparing food and taking care of the house. But Mary sat and listened to Jesus.
Martha was upset that Mary did not help her. So Jesus said to Martha, “Martha, Martha, you are getting worried and upset about too many things. Only one thing is important. Mary has made the right choice, and it will never be taken away from her” (verses 41b-42).
The devil wants to distract us. He does not want us to focus on God and work for His kingdom. We need to pray and read the Bible every day to help us keep close to God.
Don’t be distracted by things in the world. Keep your focus on God today. —CL

Dad’s Devotions (7)
Bible Reading: Luke 2:41-52
Thursday, February 19, 2015

Dad’s Devotions (7) In verse 49 of our Bible Reading today, we read the first words of Jesus. He was twelve years old and had just traveled with His family to Jerusalem for the Passover festival.
As Mary and Joseph traveled home from Jerusalem, they discovered that Jesus was not with them. They returned to Jerusalem and found Jesus in the temple. In verse 48b Mary said to Him, “Son, why did you do this to us?” Jesus answered, “You should have known that I must be where my Father’s work is” (verse 49b).
We should be like Jesus. We should want to be where God’s work is. God’s work is anywhere we can be doing good things for Him — sharing the Bible with someone, giving money to missionaries, helping orphans and widows or serving a meal to someone who is sick or hurt.
What can you do to be like Jesus today? —GM
