Saved by Grace
Bible Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10
Thursday, January 8, 2015

Saved by Grace No person can do anything to save himself from sin. Imagine you have a piece of paper and a permanent marker. Now imagine that you write a bad word on the paper. Because the marker is permanent, you can’t erase the word. You can cover it up by marking over it, but the word is still on the paper. You can draw beautiful pictures on the paper, but that bad word will still be there. Those good things you write will not make the bad word disappear.
Trying to hide our sins does not erase them. And doing good things cannot erase our sins either. We need someone who can help us! The only One who can forgive our sins is God. In verse 8 of our Bible Reading, Paul talks about that. “I mean that you have been saved by grace because you believed. You did not save yourself; it was a gift from God.”
Jesus paid the price for our sins by dying on the cross. That is His free gift of grace to us! —MK
“God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us new people so that we would spend our lives doing the good things he had already planned for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
PRAYER: Lord God, thank You for Your free gift of grace through Jesus. In His name. Amen.

The Only Way
Bible Reading: Romans 10:5-13
Monday, July 29, 2013

The Only Way Suppose you would gather the world’s greatest swimmers and tell them to swim from New Jersey to England, a distance of about 3,000 miles.
Many of the swimmers would probably swim quite far. But eventually all of them would quit or drown. Those who gave up closer to England swam farther, but they still did not reach their goal. But what if some of the swimmers got on a rescue ship that took them to England? They did not complete the trip on their own, but they did reach their goal.
When we are sinners, we are separated from God, like the big ocean that separates America from England. We can try to get close to God, but we will never be able to do it alone. Jesus is our rescue ship — our Savior. The only way to have a right relationship with God is through Jesus. Verse 13 of our Bible Reading reminds us that “everyone who trusts in the Lord will be saved.”
I hope you are trusting in Jesus today. —BL
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.’” John 14:6
PRAYER: God, I pray that people will trust Jesus and be saved. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Faith Hall of Fame (1)
Bible Reading: Genesis 6:9-22
Saturday, April 6, 2013

Faith Hall of Fame (1) In the devotion for January 5th, Chad talked about the “Faith Hall of Fame” from Hebrews, chapter 11. Today we will begin a series of devotions about some of the people mentioned in this chapter.
Noah was a man of great faith. He is mentioned in Hebrews 11:7. Noah obeyed God and built a huge boat. God told Noah that he and his family and many animals would be saved in the boat. Probably people watched Noah and laughed at him. They could not understand why Noah was building a boat. But Noah did not stop obeying God. “Noah did everything God commanded him” (verse 22). Noah had faith that God would take care of him.
Sometimes people make fun of us when we obey God. But we should not stop obeying God. We should be like Noah and remember that God will take care of us. Have faith in God today and continue to obey Him. —JK
“With his faith, Noah showed that the world was wrong. And he became one of those who are right with God through faith.” Hebrews 11:7b
PRAYER: Dear God, I want to obey You like Noah did. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Tools (6)
Bible Reading: John 14:1-14
Thursday, March 7, 2013

Tools (6) For the past few days we have talked about tools. Today we are going to talk about the tool you use to open the door of your house or start your car. What is that tool? A key!
Most people have many keys. But only one key will open your house door or start your car. Becoming God’s child is like a key. There is only one way to have the right relationship with God and receive His gift of eternal life.
In our Bible Reading today, Jesus told His disciples, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me” (verse 6b). We can’t worship a false god or a golden statue to be saved. The only way is to follow and obey God’s Word, the Bible. The Bible shows us that we need to change our lives, confess Jesus as our Savior, be baptized and continue to live for Him every day.
Show someone your keys today. Then talk to them about the only “key” to God and eternal life. —GT
[Jesus said,] “If you really knew me, you would know my Father too. But now you know the Father. You have seen him.” John 14:7
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to show my family and friends how they can have life forever with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
