Summer (4)
Bible Reading: Psalm 103:1-13
Monday, July 18, 2016

One summer day when I was a child, I played near our basement window. I was not paying attention to what I was doing, and I accidently broke the window. I was afraid to tell my parents about the window. I even thought about pretending that I knew nothing about it. But I felt guilty, so I told my mother what I had done. She said I would have to tell my dad when he came home.
When Dad came home, I did not see him. Later I checked the window, and it had been repaired! My parents had talked about the window and decided not to punish me. They never mentioned the broken window again!
My parents were forgiving. Our Bible Reading today reminds us that God is forgiving, too. Verse 10 says, “We sinned against him, but he didn't give us the punishment we deserved.” I am so thankful that God loves and forgives me. I hope you are thankful, too. —CW*

“And he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:12
PRAYER: God, please forgive my sins. Help me to be obedient to You today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Guilt
Bible Reading: Hebrews 9:11-14
Sunday, October 19, 2014

Guilt I am someone who feels guilty when something goes wrong. If I get mad at someone, I feel guilty because I should not have been mad. If I break something, I feel guilty that I was not paying attention.
What is the purpose of guilt? It is not so we will feel bad or miserable. The purpose of guilt is to bring us to God. Then He can forgive our sins. God doesn’t want us to focus on what a lousy person we are. Instead, God wants us to focus on the fact that He can forgive our sins.
Our Bible verses today tell us about Jesus, who died to forgive our sins. “His blood will make us completely clean from the evil we have done. It will give us clear consciences so that we can worship the living God” (verse 14b).
When we sin, God does not want us to keep thinking about our guilt. He wants us to turn to Him for forgiveness. Then our heart and thoughts will be free! —BL
“So Christ brings a new agreement from God to his people. He brings this agreement so that those who are chosen by God can have the blessings that last forever.” Hebrews 9:15a
PRAYER: Father, forgive my sins and cleanse me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Guilt
Bible Reading: Hebrews 9:11-22
Sunday, August 4, 2013

Guilt When we disobey God, we feel guilty. The purpose of guilt is not to make us feel bad or make us miserable. The purpose of guilt is to help us understand that we need to ask God to forgive our sins. When we ask God to forgive us, He will make us clean again.
Sometimes we let our guilt become a burden to us. Then we are distracted from following God. God wants us to focus on Him and praise Him for His forgiveness.
Our Bible Reading tells about forgiveness through Jesus. “So Christ brings a new agreement from God to his people. He brings this agreement so that those who are chosen by God can have the blessings God promised, blessings that last forever. This can happen only because Christ died to free people from sins” (verse 15a).
Do you feel guilty because you have not obeyed God? Ask Him to forgive you and make you clean today! —BL
“Christ offered himself through the eternal Spirit as a perfect sacrifice to God. His blood will make us completely clean from the evil we have done.” Hebrews 9:14b
PRAYER: Father, please forgive me and make me clean. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
