Bible Reading: Psalm 137:1-9
Thursday, November 8, 2012

Psalms Music (4) Yesterday we learned how stringed instruments were used for times of praise, worship and happiness. Today we will learn about other ways that stringed instruments were used.
Psalm 49:4 says, “I myself listened to the stories. And now, with my harp, I will sing and reveal that message to you.” Sometimes musicians would play the harp as they shared a message or told the meaning of a riddle. And, 1 Samuel 16:23 tells us that David played the harp to make King Saul feel better. “Any time the bad spirit from God came on Saul, David would take his harp and play it. The bad spirit would leave Saul and he would begin to feel better.”
Our Bible Reading today talks about the time when the Israelites were in captivity in Babylon. They were sad because they could not worship God in the temple. So, they hung their “harps on the willow trees nearby” (verse 2).
These verses remind me to be thankful that I can worship and honor God today. —DF
“I will praise the Lord all my life. I will sing praises to him all my life.” Psalm 146:2
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
