Bible Reading: Acts 17:10-15
Friday, July 19 2013

Compare (1) Paul was a wonderful missionary and preacher. He was careful to only teach the truth.
In our Bible Reading today, we learn that the people in Berea were careful, too. Verse 11 says, “The people in Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica. They were so glad to hear the message Paul told them. They studied the Scriptures every day to make sure that what they heard was really true.”
The people in Berea knew that it was important for them to study God’s Word. They needed to be sure that Paul’s teaching was true. We need to be like these people. It is okay to learn from pastors, Sunday School teachers and devotion writers. But it is important that we read the Bible ourselves. We need to be sure that other people are teaching us God’s truth.
Accept responsibility for your own spiritual growth. Study the Bible every day. Be sure that what you learn is from God. —GT
“So Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, ‘If you continue to accept and obey my teaching, you are really my followers. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.’” John 8:31-32
PRAYER: God, I want to study Your Word every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
