Trust
Bible Reading: John 6:1-13
Thursday, February 28, 2013

Trust Many people came to see Jesus. There were more than 5000 people in the crowd. Jesus asked Philip where they could buy enough bread to feed all those people.
Imagine how Philip felt! He told Jesus that they would have to work a long time so they could earn enough money to feed those people. But Jesus already knew what He was going to do. “He asked Philip this question to test him” (verse 6b).
Andrew brought a little boy’s lunch of five barley loaves and two little fish. Jesus took the food, thanked God and told the disciples to hand out the bread and fish. All the people had plenty to eat and there were twelve baskets of leftovers!
What was Jesus teaching Philip? He was teaching Philip to trust in God. We need to trust God, too. He has the answers for all of our problems.
Are you facing a difficult situation today? Trust God. He will help you solve your problems. —GT
“Jesus said, ‘Don’t be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me.’” John 14:1
PRAYER: God, I trust You, and I also trust Jesus. Thank You for always helping me with my problems. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—DVH*

Don’t Doubt God
Bible Reading: James 1:2-8
Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Don’t Doubt God If you watch the ocean, you will see waves. Some waves are big and some are small. But all waves go up and down, up and down.
In our Bible Reading today, James talks about waves. In verse 6, he says, “But when you ask God, you must believe. Don’t doubt him. Whoever doubts is like a wave in the sea that is blown up and down by the wind.” Our faith should not be like waves. We should not have a strong faith one day and doubt God the next day. Our faith should be strong and steady all the time. Then when we see God working in our lives, our faith will grow.
We will face problems in our lives. Some problems will be big, and others will be small. But we should always turn to God for help and have faith that God will do what is best for us.
Don’t doubt God today. Stay close to Him, and stand strong. —DVH*
“You know that when your faith is tested, you learn to be patient in suffering. If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be.” James 1:3-4
PRAYER: Dear God, give me wisdom so my faith will be strong. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hard to Understand
Bible Reading: Psalm 73:12-28
Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Hard to Understand I look around at people in the world. I see people who are wealthy and have many possessions. Some of these people are proud and rude. They do not follow God and His rules.
I try every day to follow God. But He does not bless me with money and nice things. So it is hard for me to understand why these bad people are rich. Verse 12a of our Bible Reading says it this way: “Those proud people are wicked, but they are rich and getting richer. Clearly, then, I gain nothing by keeping my thoughts pure!”
Then I think again about these people who do not follow God. They will not live forever with Him. They may have riches on earth, but they will be eternally separated from God.
I agree with the writer of this psalm. He says in verse 28, “As for me, all I need is to be close to God.” I don’t need riches and fancy things. All I truly need is God and salvation through His Son, Jesus. —SH*
“A few good people are better than a large crowd of those who are evil. The wicked will be destroyed, but the Lord cares for those who are good.” Psalm 37:16-17
PRAYER: Father, all I need is You and Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please God
Bible Reading: Mark 4:35-41
Monday, February 25, 2013

Please God Jesus and His disciples were in a boat. “A very bad wind came up on the lake. The waves were coming over the sides into the boat, and it was almost full of water” (verse 37). The disciples were afraid that they would drown. They did not have faith in God.
But Jesus was asleep in the boat. He was not worried. If the disciples had faith, they would have been calm like Jesus. Jesus told the wind and the water to be quiet. “Then the wind stopped, and the lake became calm” (verse 39b).
Faith means trusting God, even though we cannot understand how He will take care of us. When we have faith in God, we please Him. Hebrews 11:6a says, “Without faith no one can please God.” When we have faith, God is happy, and He gives us His blessings.
Remember that God will always be with you. Have faith in Him, no matter what you are facing today in your life. Trust God to take care of you. —JR*
“So remember that the Lord your God is the only God, and you can trust him! He keeps his agreement. He shows his love and kindness to all people.” Deuteronomy 7:9a
PRAYER: Father, I have faith that You love me and will always be with me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Security
Bible Reading: Psalm 91:1-16
Sunday, February 24, 2013

>

Security Several years ago, a popular Christian band sang a song called “Rest.” Here are some of the words from that song. “And I rest in the shelter of Your love. And I rest in the wonder of Your grace.”
Those words remind me of our Bible verses for today. This psalm was written by Moses. In these verses, he reminds us that God is our security and place of safety.
God has promised to protect us and keep us safe. In verse 4b Moses says, “He will cover you like a bird spreading its wings over its babies.” A bird will do everything it can to protect its babies. God will do the same for us.
Many people today try to find security in money, alcohol, or drugs. But God is the best source of comfort and strength. He wants us to come to Him and find peace and rest.
Maybe you are tired of facing problems in life. Come to God today and rest in His presence and holiness. —ZW
“I say to the Lord, ‘You are my place of safety, my fortress. My God, I trust in you.’” Psalm 91:2
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I come to You now and ask You to show me Your comfort and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

—DJH*

Praise God
Bible Reading: Psalm 145:1-21
Saturday, February 23, 2013

Praise God Many chapters in the book of Psalms tell us to praise God. But why should we praise God?
Our Bible Reading today gives us several reasons why we should praise God. 1) God is kind and merciful (verse 8a); 2) He is patient and full of love (verse 8b); 3) He is good to everyone (verse 9a); 4) God shows His mercy to everything He made (verse 9b); 5) He gives every living thing all that it needs (verse 16); and 6) God listens to His followers and answers their prayers (verse 19).
When we praise God, we show Him that we trust Him to help us through good times and bad times. We also show God that we believe that Jesus died and rose and that someday we will live with Him forever.
Psalm 146:6 says that God “made heaven and earth. He made the sea and everything in it.” Everything includes you and me. We should always be ready to show our praise to God. —DJH*
“I will tell of your greatness, my God and King. I will praise your name forever and ever.” Psalm 145:1
PRAYER: Father, thank You for all You have done for me. Help me to praise You today and every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Enjoy Today!
Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:9-13
Friday, February 22, 2013

Enjoy Today! The writer of our Bible verses today encourages us to enjoy life. In verse 13 he says, “God wants everyone to eat, drink, and enjoy their work.” If we want to follow this advice, here are some things you can do today.
Enjoy your family! Take time to go for a walk, bicycle or play a game with your children. Spend some time with your spouse. Thank God for the family He has given you.
Enjoy your job! Some people might have a problem doing this. But whether you like your job or not, you can still be thankful that you have a job. Ask God to show you coworkers who need encouragement and comfort today.
Enjoy the world God made! Watch snowflakes as they fall to the ground. Follow an ant as he carries his load in your yard. Find interesting shapes in the clouds. Look at the night sky and think about the vastness of the universe.
God loves you. Enjoy today! —JK
“God gave us the ability to think about his world. I learned that the best thing for people to do is to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live.” Ecclesiastes 3:11a, 12

The Splinter
Bible Reading: 1 John 3:1-10
Thursday, February 21, 2013

The Splinter Recently I was helping my husband with a building project. I carried pieces of wood and stacked them. Later that evening I noticed that I had a spinter of wood in my finger.
The splinter was very small, and I had a hard time getting it out. I thought that I had removed all of the splinter. But a couple of days later, I noticed that my finger was red, and it started to hurt. I found a tiny piece of wood under my skin. That time I made sure I removed all the splinter.
Our Bible Reading reminds us that as Christians, we cannot continue to sin. “You know that Christ came to take away people’s sins. There is no sin in Christ” (verse 5). We need to find the sins in our lives and remove them. If not, these sins will grow and hurt our relationship with God.
Examine your life today. Ask God to forgive your sins and help you live a pure life for Him. —JK
“So whoever lives in Christ does not continue to sin. If they continue to sin, they have never really understood Christ and have never known him.” 1 John 3:6
PRAYER: God, help me to see the sin in my life. Please forgive me and help me to obey You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have Faith
Bible Reading: Romans 10:11-17
Wednesday, February 20, 2013

Have Faith For a long time, I wondered if I really had faith in God. I believed in God. But I didn’t know if that was the same as having faith. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see.” This verse helped me understand that even though I can’t see God, I know He is real. How can I know this? Because the Bible tells me He is real.
Verse 17 of today’s Bible Reading says, “So faith comes from hearing the Good News. And people hear the Good News when someone tells them about Christ.” I have heard about Jesus many times, and I read the Bible every day. The Bible is full of the Good News about Jesus and what He did to save us from our sin.
If you have heard the Good News about Jesus and you believe in Him, then you can be happy. Why? Because you have faith. Now you need to share that Good News with someone who does not know about Jesus. Then they will have faith, too! —MS
“We must never stop looking to Jesus. He is the leader of our faith, and he is the one who makes our faith complete.” Hebrews 12:2a

—AS

The Right Path
Bible Reading: Psalm 1:1-6
Tuesday, February 19, 2013

The Right Path When I was a teenager, I was part of a class at my church. One Sunday the teacher asked us, “Who wants to be blessed by God?” We all raised our hands. Then he asked us, “Who wants to think about God’s teachings day and night?” That didn’t sound like much fun, so none of us raised our hands.
That day our teacher encouraged us to memorize Psalm 1. He said that this psalm was about choosing the right friends and staying on the right path in life.
I was in that class about 50 years ago. Back then we had fewer temptations because there were no drug problems, identity theft or Internet pornography. But today we have many bad things happening in the world. We face more temptations. Psalm 1 is even more important today to guide us in choosing the right path.
Take time to study Psalm 1 and be like the “tree planted by a stream” (verse 3a). —AS
“Great blessings belong to those who don’t listen to evil advice, who don’t live like sinners, and who don’t join those who make fun of God.” Psalm 1:1
PRAYER: Dear God, please help me to always walk with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
