Bible Reading: Isaiah 52:1-15
Sunday, May 17, 2015

Hymns (2) Our Bible Reading today contains encouraging words for God’s people, the Israelites. God had punished the Israelites for their sin by letting them be taken to other countries. In these verses Isaiah told God’s people that they would be able to return to Jerusalem. “Rejoice because the Lord comforted his people and set Jerusalem free” (verse 9b).
Luther Bridgers (1884-1948) was a pastor in Kentucky who traveled to different churches. One day he learned that his wife and three sons had died in a fire. While Luther was recovering from this tragedy, he wrote the hymn, “He Keeps Me Singing.” Some of the words of this hymn are: “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know. Fills my every longing, keeps me singing as I go.” Luther was able to write these encouraging words because God gave Him comfort and strength.
God comforted the Israelites and comforted Luther Bridges. He will comfort you, too. Depend on God’s love and strength today! —BH
“The Lord showed his holy strength to all the nations. All the faraway countries saw how God saved his people.” Isaiah 52:10
PRAYER: Father, thank You for always being with me. Help me to trust You in every situation today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
