今天的經文告訴我們耶穌遇見了一個有18年殘疾的女人，她的「腰老是彎著，不能站直」（第11b節）。耶穌用手按在這女人的身上，然後她就可以站直了。耶穌是在安息日醫治了這個女人，對猶太人來說，這一天是安息、敬拜上帝的日子。有些猶太人因為耶穌在安息日醫治那女人而批評祂，耶穌回答這些宗教領袖說（第16b節）：「難道在安息日就不應該解開她的鎖鍊嗎？」 當我第一次讀到這個聖經故事時，我正過著全身都是關節炎的生活，我瞭解這女人長久以來的感受。這故事讓我知道，當我痛苦的時候，上帝也與我同在。此外，我也明白了，有一天我將從我的痛苦中得著釋放，並且與祂永遠同住。 無論今天你面臨的是什麼問題──痛苦、疾病、家庭問題──上帝會賜給你盼望和安慰。 －BH 「他要擦乾他們每一滴眼淚；不再有死亡，也沒有悲傷、哭泣，或痛苦。以往的事都已經過去了。」 啟示錄21:4

Our Bible Reading tells us that Jesus met a woman who had been crippled for 18 years. “Her back was always bent; she could not stand up straight” (verse 11b). Jesus laid His hands on the woman, and she was able to stand up straight. Jesus healed this woman on the Sabbath day. This was a day of rest and worship for the Jews. Some of the Jews criticized Jesus because He had healed the woman on the Sabbath. Jesus answered these leaders by saying (verse 16b), “Surely it is not wrong for her to be made free from her sickness on a Sabbath day!” When I first read this Bible story, I was living with arthritis throughout my body. I understood how the woman must have felt. This made me realize that God is with me when I am in pain, too. And I also realized that someday I will be free from my pain and live forever with Him. No matter what you are facing today — pain, sickness, family problems — God will give you hope and comfort. —BH “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, sadness, crying, or pain. All the old ways are gone.” Revelation 21:4
