—ECW

God, Our Strength
Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 17:27-51
Wednesday, November 13, 2013

God, Our Strength God’s people, the Israelites, were fighting the Philistines. Goliath was a Philistine fighter. 1 Samuel 17:4 tells us that Goliath was more than nine feet tall!
David was just a young boy. But he was willing to fight Goliath. Our Bible verses today tell us that King Saul put his armor on David. “He tried to wear Saul’s uniform, but David was not used to all those heavy things” (verse 39b). So David took off the armor, and he went out to fight Goliath.
David knew that his strength did not come from Saul’s armor or weapons. He knew that his strength came from God. David had fought wild animals when he was a shepherd. “The Lord saved me from the lion and the bear. He will also save me from this Philistine” (verse 37).
God was with David, and He will be with us, too. When we face problems, we can depend on God’s strength to help us. —ECW
“So David defeated the Philistine with only a sling and one stone! He hit the Philistine and killed him.”1 Samuel 17:50a
PRAYER: Father, I want to depend on You like David did. I know that You will be with me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
