Encouragement
Bible Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11
Sunday, October 5, 2014
Everyone likes to have people encourage them. When someone encourages us, we feel happier and stronger. Paul reminds us in our verses today that it is very important for Christians to encourage each other. Jesus was a great encourager. He said, “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). And, “Don’t be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me” (John 14:1). Paul encouraged other Christians, too. Many of his letters in the New Testament include words of loving encouragement. “Continue to trust in God and do what you know is right” (1 Timothy 1:19a). “Be strong in the grace that we have because we belong to Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:1b). Ask God to show you someone who needs encouragement today. Share God’s message of peace and hope with people you meet. —DJH* “Always be full of joy. Never stop praying. Whatever happens, always be thankful. This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus.”1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
PRAYER: God, please show me someone today who needs to be encouraged by Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen. |
