Falling from Grace
Bible Reading: Galatians 5:1-6, Jude 3-7
Wednesday, January 14, 2015
Some people say that if you receive God’s grace, you can never fall away from that grace. But the Bible does not teach that. There are many verses in the Bible that encourage us to “stand firm” and “not give up.” Does this mean that God will give up on us and stop forgiving us if we sin “too much”? No! As long as we continue to trust God, He will stay faithful to us. But if we give up or if we stop trusting in God’s grace to save us, we will “fall” from grace. Once we stop trusting in God’s grace to save us, we will no longer be covered by His grace. Think about the story in an earlier devotion about the drowning people. Imagine that a person on land holds out a long pole for the people in the water to grab onto. That is like God giving us His grace through Jesus. As long as the people hold onto that pole, they will be safe. But if they let go of that pole, they will begin to drown again. In the same way, if we stop trusting Jesus to save us, we will begin dying in our sins. —MK “So we beg you: Don’t let the grace that you received from God be for nothing.” 2 Corinthians 6:1b
PRAYER: Lord, I want to continue trusting You. Only You can save me! In Jesus’ name. Amen. |
