羅馬士兵使用盾牌保護自己，他們用盾牌擋掉敵軍射來的箭，有時候這些箭會被點上火來讓它們更有危險性。今天經文的第16節說：「要常常拿著信心的盾牌，好使你們能夠抵禦那邪惡者所射出的一切火箭。」信心是什麼呢？希伯來書11:1說：「信心是對所盼望的事有把握，對不能看見的事能肯定。」 魔鬼想要破壞我們對上帝的信心，每天我們都可以看到許多電視節目，或在網路上讀到一些文章都說上帝不存在。或許我們也會碰到一些企圖要說服我們相信聖經不是真理的人，而魔鬼要我們相信這些謊言。 我們對上帝的信心會幫助我們抵擋這些謊言。當魔鬼誘惑我們懷疑上帝時，我們的信心會讓我們保持剛強和堅定。 —CE 「人沒有信心就不能得到上帝的歡心。凡是到上帝面前來的人都必須信上帝的存在，而且信他要報賞尋求他的人。」 (希伯來書11:6)

A Roman soldier used a shield to protect himself. He used this shield to fight off arrows shot by the enemy. Sometimes these arrows were set on fire so that they would be more dangerous. Verse 16 of our Bible verses says, “And also use the shield of faith with which you can stop all the burning arrows that come from the Evil One.” What is faith? Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is “what makes real the things we hope for. It is proof of what we cannot see.” The devil wants to destroy our faith in God. Every day we can watch TV programs or read articles on the Internet that say there is no God. Or we may meet people who try to convince us that the Bible is not true. The devil wants us to believe these lies. Our faith in God will help us resist these lies. When the devil tempts us to doubt God, our faith will keep us strong and secure. —CE “Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.” Hebrews 11:6
