Bad Things
Bible Reading: Romans 8:18-30
Thursday, June 30, 2016

Yesterday we talked about being thankful for the good things in our lives. Today we will talk about being thankful for the bad things in our lives. I have had many bad things happen to me. I almost lost my baby before she was born. Another time, I almost died from a serious infection. And I have been in three car accidents. It's not easy to thank God for these kinds of things.
But it is important to tell God we are thankful for the bad things that happen to us — even if we don't feel thankful. After the bad has ended, we will see that God can bring good from bad. God can use bad things to bless us. Verse 28 of our Bible Reading says, “We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love him. These are the people God chose, because that was his plan.” God has promised to always do what is best for us.
Thank God right now for the bad things and for the good things that He will make happen in your life. —GT

“We have sufferings now, but these are nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us.” Romans 8:18
PRAYER: Father, thank You for always doing what is best for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—GT

Good Things
Bible Reading: James 1:12-18
Wednesday, June 29, 2016

 Today and
tomorrow
we will talk
about things
that we
should be
thankful for.
Today we will
talk about being thankful for the good things in our lives.
I have many, many blessings from God. I have a husband and daughter that I love. They are strong Christians. I have a great job at my church. I love to write, and I use this talent to write for the Lord.
Verse 17a of our Bible Reading says, “Everything good comes from God. Every perfect gift is from him.” I know that all the good things in my life are gifts from God.
God will give you good things in your life, too. Verse 12a tells us, “Great blessings belong to those who are tempted and remain faithful! After they have proved their faith, God will give them the reward of eternal life. God promised this to all people who love him.” If we faithfully serve God, He will give us good things in our lives.
Take time today to thank God for all the good things He has given to you. —GT

“You are my Lord. Every good thing I have comes from you.” Psalm 16:2b
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for good things. You are wonderful! In Jesus' name. Amen.

Good Advice
Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:11-21
Tuesday, June 28, 2016

When I have a problem to solve or a decision to make, I sometimes ask a Christian friend for their advice. I choose this friend because I know I can trust them to give me advice based on the Bible.
That kind of person is described in our Bible verses today. First, that kind of person respects God and allows Jesus to control his life (verses 11 and 14). Second, this person does not think like the world. Instead, they look at things from God's perspective (verse 16). Third, that kind of person makes me feel peaceful and shows me God's truth (verses 18-19).
One time I needed good advice. I talked with my ministry leader. I trusted him to give me the right advice because I knew he would show me the truth found in the Bible. Are you facing a problem in your life? Depend on someone who loves God and follows His Word. —BP*

“We know what it means to fear the Lord, so we try to help people accept the truth. God knows what we really are, and I hope that in your hearts you know us too.” 2 Corinthians 5:11
PRAYER: Father, thank You that we can always depend on the truth in Your Word. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Follow God's Word
Bible Reading: Psalm 25:1-7
Monday, June 27,2016

My stove has a self cleaning oven. Recently I baked a peach pie in the oven, and some of the pie dripped onto the bottom of the oven. I decided it was time to clean my oven.
I started the cleaning cycle, but when it was finished, there was still peach pie stuck to the bottom of the oven. The next day I decided to try cleaning the oven again. This time I followed the instructions in my owner’s manual. I realized that I had missed one important step in the cleaning process. When I followed the instructions carefully, I had a clean oven.
God has given us His instruction manual — the Bible. When we read His Word carefully and then apply His teachings to our lives, we will stay close to Him. We should be like the writer of Psalm 25. “Lord, help me learn your ways. Show me how you want me to live. Guide me and teach me your truths” (verses 4-5a).
Be sure to read and follow God’s Word today! —NM

“Lord, I put my life in your hands. I trust in you, my God, and I will not be disappointed.” Psalm 25:1-2a
PRAYER: God, thank You for the Bible. I want to follow it every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

-SH*

God Hates Sin
Bible Reading: Acts 5:1-11
Sunday, June 26, 2016

Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, sold some land. They gave part of the money they received to the church and kept some money for themselves. But Ananias and Sapphira said that they gave all the money to the church. Both of them lied to God.
Because of their lies, Ananias and Sapphira died. Verse 11 tells us that then the “whole church and all the other people who heard about this were filled with fear.” I am sure many people were shocked by this, but God wanted the church to know that He will not tolerate sin.
God loves us so much! He wants us to stop sinning. Why? Because sin in our lives separates us from God. God wants to be close to us so we can enjoy our relationship with Him.
When you are tempted to disobey God, remember that he hates sin. Ask Him to keep you strong and help you resist the temptation. God will never fail you! —SH*

“...God is being patient with you. He doesn't want anyone to be lost. He wants everyone to change their ways and stop sinning.” 2 Peter 3:9b
PRAYER: Father, help me to change and to stop sinning. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Fights for Us
Bible Reading: Exodus 14:13-18
Saturday, June 25, 2016

When I was in school, I worked hard to get good grades. One semester I took a typing class. I thought that I would get an A- for the class but my teacher gave me a B+. I told my friend that I was disappointed and why I thought I deserved an A-.
My friend talked with my teacher and showed her why I should have an A-. The teacher patiently listened and then decided to change my grade to an A-. My friend fought for my better grade. I did nothing at all.
Our Bible verses tell us about when the Israelites left Egypt. The Egyptian army chased the Israelites to the Red Sea. The Israelites were trapped, and they were afraid. But Moses said, “Don't be afraid...You will not have to do anything but stay calm. The Lord will do the fighting for you” (verses 13-14).
God defeated the Egyptian army, and the Israelites were able to cross the Red Sea safely. God will help us, too — just like He helped the Israelites. All we need to do is trust God. He will take care of us and give us what we need. —LHD

Good News for All
Bible Reading: Acts 8:4-8, 14-17
Friday, June 24, 2016

When Jesus left this earth, He gave His disciples a huge responsibility. He gave them the job of sharing the Good News about salvation with all people.
In our Bible Reading today, we learn that Philip healed some Samaritan people and told them about Jesus. The Jews and Samaritans had been enemies for many years. Most Jews would not even associate with a Samaritan.
In these verses we read that the message about Jesus can overcome social barriers. When Jesus' disciples heard that the Samaritans had accepted the news about Jesus, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. They “prayed for the Samaritan believers to receive the Holy Spirit” (verse 15).
Today we have the job of sharing the Good News about Jesus with all people. But maybe there are some people who are different from you or maybe you just don't like them. Ask God to help you break down these barriers so that you can share Jesus with everyone you meet. —DF

“On their way, they went through many Samaritan towns and told people the Good News.” Acts 8:25b
PRAYER: Dear God, I want to share Your love with everyone I meet today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

—JK

Bible Fathers (5)
Bible Reading: Luke 15:11-24
Thursday, June 23, 2016

The last Bible father we will look at was part of a story that Jesus told. In the story, the father had two sons. The father divided up his wealth between the two sons.
Our Bible Reading tells us that one son took his money and went to another country. There the son “wasted his money living like a fool” (verse 13b) and spent everything that he had. Finally the son realized that he had been very foolish. He decided to go home and say to his father, “I have sinned against God and have done wrong to you” (verse 18b).
Verse 20b tells us, “While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him coming.” The father loved his son very much. I think that the father watched for the son every day. When the son got home, his father hugged him and kissed him and prepared a great meal for him.
This story is really talking about God and us. Sometimes we do foolish things and run away from God. But God still loves us. He is always waiting for us to come back to him. No matter what you have done, remember that God loves you and wants you to follow Him. —JK

Bible Reading: Mark 5:21-24, 35-43
Wednesday, June 22, 2016

Jairus was a man who loved God. Our Bible Reading tells us that Jairus' daughter was sick and dying. Jairus came to Jesus and begged Jesus to heal his daughter.
As Jesus was going to Jairus' house, some men came and told Jairus that his daughter had died. But Jesus said to Jairus, “Don't be afraid; just believe” (verse 36b). Jesus went to Jairus' house. He went to the room where Jairus' daughter was. Jesus said, “‘Little girl, I tell you to stand up!’ The girl stood up and began walking” (verses 41b-42a).
Jairus went to Jesus because he knew that Jesus could help him. Sometimes when we have a problem, we work and work to solve the problem. Then when we don't know what to do, we pray and ask for help. But we should pray first!
If you are facing problems today — financial problems, sickness, divorce, the death of a loved one — be sure to pray and ask God to help you. —JK

Bible Fathers (3)
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 2:1-4
Tuesday, June 21, 2016

Our Bible father today is King David. Our Bible Reading tells us that David was old and about to die. So he talked to his son, Solomon. David said to Solomon, “Now, carefully obey all the commands of the Lord your God. Carefully obey all his laws, commands, decisions and agreements” (verse 3a). David continued by telling Solomon to be kind to other people.
David gave Solomon the best advice any parent can give their children. It is important for a parent to teach their children to brush their teeth and get enough sleep. But it is far more important to teach children to love and obey God.
Parents today spend lots of money to make sure that their children receive the best education. There is nothing wrong with a good education. But it is even better to teach your children about obeying and loving God.
Do you have an opportunity to teach children? Be sure to teach them the important lesson that David taught Solomon. —JK
